  16.                       Character Generator Process

  20. I hereby propose that there be a standard process implemented on
  21. whatever hosts desire which generates character data with out any
  22. regard to input. In some sense the process is the converse of the
  23. discard process [RFC 348]. Many hosts have an existing terminal
  24. testing program [e.g. TTYTST] which would suit this function
  25. adequately.

  27. This Character Generator process would listen for a request for
  28. connection and execute the Initial Connection Protocol (ICP) as
  29. specified in NIC 7104 the "Current Network Protocols" notebook.  Upon
  30. completion of the ICP the Character Generator process would begin to
  31. send characters into the network as buffer space is made available .
  32. The Character Generator process is terminated by closing the
  33. connections.
