  11. THE ARC SYSTEM WILL BE UNAVAILABLE FOR USE DURING THANKSGIVING WEEK
  12.  
  13. The ARC PDP-10 system will be unavailable for ARC and NIC users
  14. from Friday, November 17 (6:00 pm PST ) through Sunday, November
  15. 26. (10:00 pm PST).  This will give our hardware team a period of
  16. nine days to work on equipment with a loss of only three SRI
  17. working days to users (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.)
  18.  
  19. This is the Network Information Center's notice to its network
  20. users of the schedule.
  21.  
  22.     In addition, a login message will be sent starting about 6
  23.     November to all users showing schedule.
  24.  
  25.        It will read something like: "THE ARC/NIC PDP-10 SYSTEM
  26.       WILL BE UNAVAILABLE FOR USE FROM FRIDAY NOV 17 (6:00 pm
  27.       PST) THRU SUNDAY NOV 26 (10:00 pm PST) FOR MAJOR HARDWARE
  28.       WORK AS OUTLINED IN (12542,)".

  30. For those who are interested, the hardware facility work to be
  31. done during this period will include:
  32.  
  33.    Removal of the Bryant disk, Bryant disk controller and
  34.    Cybernex drum-disk interference.
  35.  
  36.    Moving the Tasker display system and DEC dispack (old and
  37.    new) equipment to their new locations.
  38.  
  39.    Having Bryant people run a combination drum maintenance and
  40.    training session to teach ARC people how to change heads and
  41.    clean the drum.
  42.  
  43.    Redoing the power cabling to the drum.
  44.  
  45.    Putting the new signal cable in between drum and controller.
  46.  
  47.    Debugging the parity checker.

  60.    Making a check of all main signal levels in XCORE.
