  60. The USAF Environmental Technical Applications Center (ETAC) is
  61. providing weather data for the ARPA Network.  Ultimately there
  62. will be ten years of high quality surface and upper air weather
  63. observations, as well as hemispheric grid point analyses.  The
  64. observations are generated by approximately 5000 surface and
  65. 1200 upper air stations, distributed all over the world.
  66.  
  67. The data is to be available via the datacomputer, a specialized
  68. node of the ARPA Network that is dedicated to the management of
  69. shared data bases and designed to accommodate large ones.  The
  70. datacomputer, currently under development by Computer Corporation
  71. of America (CCA), will provide services* for the use of these
  72. data bases, including the weather data.

  74. A working group has been formed to design the data base,
  75. coordinate its implementation with the development of the
  76. datacomputer, plan testing, project uses, and resolve a variety
  77. of technical issues associated with its size and complexity.
