- I. What Is a Red Box?
-
- A Red Box is a device that allows you to make free telephone calls
- by tricking the phone into thinking money has been deposited. A
- simple modification to Radio Shack tone dialer can make it into a red
- box. This is probably the SIMPLEST way of making a red box.
-
-
- II. How do I Build a Radio Shack Tone Dialer Red Box?
-
- Parts that you will need for the red box:
- 1) 1 Radio Shack tone dialer part #43-141
- 2) 1 6.5536 Mhz crystal
- 3) some solder and a soldering iron
-
- Remove the screws from the back of the tone dialer and take off
- the back cover. Once this is done, you should see a small shiny
- component to the left side of the dialer. This is the old crystal.
- Desolder that crystal and solder the new crystal in there. Put the
- cover and screws back on.
-
- Switch the unit on. Set the lower slide switch to STORE mode. Press
- the MEMORY button on the dial pad and the * key five times. Press the
- MEMORY key again and then press the P1 key.
-
- Switch the unit into DIAL mode. press the P1 key, and you will hear
- a quarter tone.
-
-
- III. Where do I get the parts for the red box?
-
- The Radio Shack pocket tone dialer is available from just about any
- Radio Shack, and it is part #43-141. It costs about $24.95.
-
- The 6.5536 crystal is available for only $3. Just include a piece
- of paper with your shipping address folded in 3 with your money inside
- (just dollar bills) so it doesn't show through the envelope. Then
- mail to: 134 East 27th Street #229
- New York, NY 10016
