  8. Shortly after the recent Internet Worm episode, I asked the VIRUS-L
  9. readers for their input as to how useful and timely they felt the
  10. information here on VIRUS-L was.  I'd like to thank everyone who
  11. replied to me!  If I didn't reply to you personally, I still greatly
  12. appreciated your input!  I've also received dozens of comments on the
  13. new digest format, almost all of which have been very positive.
  14. Thanks to all who commented on that too!

  16. The outcome was predominantly that the information from VIRUS-L was
  17. useful in clarifying what people were reading in the media, and ranged
  18. from being very timely to not timely enough.  A lot here has to do
  19. with network location; some sites receive messages almost immediately,
  20. while others take up to a couple of days (!) to get their mail from
  21. VIRUS-L.  Also, some of the info that went out was reposted from RISKS
  22. and/or the TCP-IP group; readers of those groups naturally read those
  23. postings there first.  In addition, most readers weren't overly
  24. concerned with the multiple postings at the time.

  26. So what does all of this mean?  Well, the networks themselves aren't
  27. always as fast as we'd like for them to be for one thing.  Beyond
  28. that, I'm not really too sure.  I'd like to think that VIRUS-L is a
  29. healthy, unrestricted vehicle for discussing the issues at hand, and I
  30. think that the comments, in general, confirmed that.  Several readers
  31. said that most of the issues discussed here pertain primarily to
  32. microcomputers (PC and Mac et al).  I suppose that's been the case by
  33. and large.  I'd like to see that expand a bit into the network and
  34. Unix world.  Comments and suggestions?

  68.      I agree (as should be obvious by now) that resources of hackers
  69. should be tapped before they go over the edge.

  71.      I just want to make it more clear that having a professional job
  72. is not of itself sufficient.  These guys need a job CRASHING
  73. COMPUTERS.  They gotta be doing what they do best.
  74.      If they are gonna do it anyways, it might as well be on our side.

  76. say it anyhow.
