  1. Wing Commander 1 Flight Tactics
  2.  
  3. The following maneuvers will increase you kills and chances of
  4. survival.
  5.  
  6. Standard Maneuvers:
  7.  
  8. 1) Let an enemy tail your ship flying at about 120 kps.  Then hit
  9. your after burners.  Make a hard brake and turn a tight 180 degrees
  10. turn.  Then open fire.
  11.  
  12. 2) When being chased by a good enemy fighter increase speed to
  13. maximum without after burners.  Then pull a hard break and wait
  14. till the enemy is in your front range of fire.
  15. (note: The enemy ships during this combat manuever should be the
  16. same speed equivalence.)
  17.  
  18. 3) When firing head to head with the enemy, try firing all guns and
  19. afterburn to about 8 degrees left or right.  Then face the enemy
  20. again and fire.  This tactic is extremely effective against slow
  21. moving ships such as the Gratha or Jalthi.
  22.  
  23. 4) When trying to chase an enemy ship running away never use the
  24. afterburners.  You would only waste your fuel.  Navigate to another
  25. nav point then auto pilot back to the same nav point where the
  26. enemy was.  He should be there.
  27.  
  28. 5) When the attack ratio is 2:2 Friend/Foe.  Try asking your
  29. wingman to attack the enemy ship chasing you while you attack his
  30. enemyship.  This is very effective and it surprises your enemies.
  31.  
  32. 6) When attack large mother ships, never use missiles. Save the
  33. missiles for attacking fighters.  It is more effective to fire a
  34. missile at a damaged ship and destroy it then to weaken the shields
  35. then use your lasers.
  36.  
  37. 7) When attacking large ships try attacking with full guns in the
  38. rear of the ship.  This way you would not be underfire from the
  39. enemy.
  40.  
  41. 8) As a wing leader, your objective is destroy your target.  In
  42. cases of Darkir(a transport) attack and destroy them first before
  43. you attack the defending fighters.
  44.  
  45. 9) When out numbered by the enemies while they attack the Tiger
  46. Claw.  Stay close to the ship and attack only the enemy fighter
  47. shooting at the Tiger Claw.  Once they stop firing and turn away
  48. attack another enemy fighter shooting at the Tiger Claw.  Never
  49. chase the ship.  Using this tactic, eventually you will defeat the
  50. enemy fighters.
  51.  
  52. 10)For Gratha and Jalthi, use #3 stated above to attack them.
  53.  
  54. 11)For Dralthi and Krant try afterburning around them near the
  55. back.  The weapons on these ships are not very powerful so a head
  56. on combat is possible.
  57.  
  58. 12)For Salthi just fly at very slow speed. Around 50kps, then just
  59. sit and wait for the enemy ship to turn and fire upon you.  Then
  60. fire full blast at the Salthi.  It is futile to chase these ship
  61. because they have good agility.
  62.  
  63. Wing Commander is a very different game.  There are many
  64. possiblities and ways to encounter your enemy.  Unlike some other
  65. games they have the same action over and over again.  Experiment a
  66. little, try and invent some other tactics, this would add to more
  67. fun in Wing Commander.
