  1. How to gain free access to the Internet

  3. This works in the UK....and I'd imagine it works in the
  4. States: This is provided for informational purposes only
  5. Windows 95 comes with a program called icwconn1.exe.

  7. Run this program and choose "automatic"...
  8. your computer will then dial the Microsoft On-line
  9. referral server and download a list of ISP's local
  10. to your area. You can then choose an ISP to signup
  11. with and their on-line registration server will be
  12. dialed....Now if you look in the c:\windows\temp dir
  13. there are a list of files (the ones downloaded from
  14.  referral.microsoft.com)....some of these files have
  15. the extention *.isp. Change this extention from isp
  16. to txt and open them with notepad. Amongst other info
  17. a user name and password are dislpayed. Using dial-up
  18. networking (win95) or RAS (win NT) dial the number 
  19. provided and supply the username and password...
  20. configure Internet Explorer (or other browser) to use
  21. that ISP's web proxy server....now you have free access
  22. to the internet...and your laughing if they provide a 
  23. free-phone number (toll free for the Americans.)
