  5.     Well, here it is!  After two years of work, it's finally
  6. ready.  We've been at it for a long time now, a lot longer than expected
  7. for too many reason to go into here.  We've had a great time developing
  8. this version and hope you will find it worth the wait.  Thanks to a
  9. everyone for being patient waiting for this release.
  10.  
  11.     Secondly, when you have a minute, drop a "Thank You Note" in email
  12. to Frank Reid.  Frank has put more than his share of time and effort
  13. into this release.  He has been the core of the development effort from
  14. day one and has been the primary one to weave all of the changes into
  15. what you see as WWIV 4.30.  The remainder of the WWIV Development Team
  16. (WDT) and the Beta Team have all done an outstanding job in preparation
  17. for this release as well.  The all deserve a big "Thanks" to for their
  18. efforts.

  20.     Now, on to what you're really after.  "What's new?"  Well, most all
  21. of the look of the BBS has changed in some way or another but the old
  22. feel is still there. If you want to see what was done during the course
  23. of development, take a peek at REVISION.TXT.  You should find most all of
  24. the new features by reading through it.  There are WAY to many changes
  25. to list but here are some of the major changes:

  30.     => Fossil Support added and now required for the BBS
  31.     => Fullscreen WFC and ANSI callout screens
  32.     => "ListPlus" Style Transfer Section
  33.     => Registration Passcodes for ALL registered systems.

  35.     => New fullscreen string editor (STREDIT.EXE) replaces MINIESM.
  36.        This utility is still in development and is not a complete product
  37.        as of this release.  Updates will be provided free of charge.

  41.     => Automated GUEST account
  42.     => New Advanced ASV System now standard Equipment

  61. Upgrade Notes:

  65.     YOU MUST NOT RUN BBS.EXE UNTIL *AFTER* YOU RUN INIT.EXE TO CONVERT
  66.     YOUR DATA FILES.  YOUR DATA FILES WILL BE CORRUPTED IF YOU RUN
  67.     BBS.EXE FIRST!!!!

  69.     If you are upgrading a previous version of WWIV to v4.30, it is
  70. absolutely *imperative* that you merge your current WWIV.INI with
  71. WWIV430.INI.  There are settings that v4.30 requires that are not in
  72. older versions.  Failure to merge the new settings will result in
  73. unpredictable operation but should not damage any of your data files.

  75. Registration Passcodes:
  76. =======================

  78.     All registered sysops now need a Registration Passcode for the BBS.
  79. In the past, address information was used to verify registrations.  We
  80. found it a tedious and repetitive task to verify this information.
  81. Since the passcode system is already required for instances beyond the
  82. standard installation, we are using that system to verify registrations
  83. now.  Registration numbers and passcode pairs will be used to verify
  84. your identity as a registered sysop for SDS systems and other activities
  85. that require registration verification.

  87.     If you have upgraded to 4 or more instances already, your current
  88. passcode will suffice.  If not, you will need to do one of two things:
  89.  
  90.     a.  If your current address information is the same as when you
  91.     registered WWIV, go to http://wss.wwiv.com/passcode.htm to apply for
  92.     your passcode.
  93.  
  94.     b.  If your registration record is not current, we will have to
  95.     verify you one last time under the old system.  Go to
  96.     http://wss.wwiv.com/regupdate.htm to update your information and
  97.     your passcode will be issued when the update is completed.  You can
  98.     also use this form to update your information at any time in the
  99.     future should you wish to keep our database current.

  101.     Be forewarned, WWIV v4.30 will stop operating in evaluation mode 60
  102. days after it is installed even if a registration number is entered in
  103. INIT.  Both registration number *and* passcode must be entered to
  104. operate in registered mode.  After the 60 day trial, the BBS name will
  105. be changed to "Unregistered WWIV BBS" and INIT will cease to function.
