README.430
03/06/2000
Well, here it is! After two years of work, it's finally
ready. We've been at it for a long time now, a lot longer than expected
for too many reason to go into here. We've had a great time developing
this version and hope you will find it worth the wait. Thanks to a
everyone for being patient waiting for this release.
Secondly, when you have a minute, drop a "Thank You Note" in email
to Frank Reid. Frank has put more than his share of time and effort
into this release. He has been the core of the development effort from
day one and has been the primary one to weave all of the changes into
what you see as WWIV 4.30. The remainder of the WWIV Development Team
(WDT) and the Beta Team have all done an outstanding job in preparation
for this release as well. The all deserve a big "Thanks" to for their
efforts.
Now, on to what you're really after. "What's new?" Well, most all
of the look of the BBS has changed in some way or another but the old
feel is still there. If you want to see what was done during the course
of development, take a peek at REVISION.TXT. You should find most all of
the new features by reading through it. There are WAY to many changes
to list but here are some of the major changes:
New Features:

This utility is still in development and is not a complete product
as of this release. Updates will be provided free of charge.

There are lots, *LOTS* more. You'll just have to explore the BBS to
find them all!
Upgrade Notes:
==============
WARNING!!!WARNING!!!WARNING!!!WARNING!!!WARNING!!!WARNING!!!WARNING!!!
YOU MUST NOT RUN BBS.EXE UNTIL *AFTER* YOU RUN INIT.EXE TO CONVERT
YOUR DATA FILES. YOUR DATA FILES WILL BE CORRUPTED IF YOU RUN
BBS.EXE FIRST!!!!
If you are upgrading a previous version of WWIV to v4.30, it is
absolutely *imperative* that you merge your current WWIV.INI with
WWIV430.INI. There are settings that v4.30 requires that are not in
older versions. Failure to merge the new settings will result in
unpredictable operation but should not damage any of your data files.
Registration Passcodes:
=======================
All registered sysops now need a Registration Passcode for the BBS.
In the past, address information was used to verify registrations. We
found it a tedious and repetitive task to verify this information.
Since the passcode system is already required for instances beyond the
standard installation, we are using that system to verify registrations
now. Registration numbers and passcode pairs will be used to verify
your identity as a registered sysop for SDS systems and other activities
that require registration verification.
If you have upgraded to 4 or more instances already, your current
passcode will suffice. If not, you will need to do one of two things:
a. If your current address information is the same as when you
registered WWIV, go to http://wss.wwiv.com/passcode.htm to apply for
your passcode.
b. If your registration record is not current, we will have to
verify you one last time under the old system. Go to
http://wss.wwiv.com/regupdate.htm to update your information and
your passcode will be issued when the update is completed. You can
also use this form to update your information at any time in the
future should you wish to keep our database current.
Be forewarned, WWIV v4.30 will stop operating in evaluation mode 60
days after it is installed even if a registration number is entered in
INIT. Both registration number *and* passcode must be entered to
operate in registered mode. After the 60 day trial, the BBS name will
be changed to "Unregistered WWIV BBS" and INIT will cease to function.
