README.N37
03/06/2000
Released - 03/06/2000
Ensure you use the Fossil version of NETWORK.EXE if running WWIV
v4.30 or are running a previous version with a fossil driver. To
accomplish this, delete the NETWORK.EXE from this archive and
rename NETWORKF.EXE to NETWORK.EXE. You must also install the CEXYZ
protocol archive as the Fossil version of NETWORK.EXE uses it for
transfers. CEXYZ IS NOT a WSS product. It is a freeware fossil
based protocol and has proven to be the most reliable method of
transfering network packets. Note that WSS has made reasonable
attempts to contact the author to license this product for
distribution in this archive to no avail. Product development has
apparently terminated and all attempts to contact Cutting Edge
Computing have failed. If anyone has any contact information on
this company, please notify WSS so that approritate action may be
taken.
Network Coordinators and other network officials should make
appropriate changes to their BBSLIST.* files to reflect the changes
in the BBSLIST identifiers as follows:
Redesignation of BBSLIST flags
$ = System is PPP Capable (NEW)
< = System DOES NOT accept linked packets (future - internal linking)
> = System supports FTS/BLT (future - networked dirs)
\ = Fido Compatible BBS (no change)
| = System is a telnet node (NEW - full time connection)
! = System accepts direct (crash) mail (future - DIRECT.NET)
/ = Unregistered System (no change)
? = System accepts faxes (no change)
_ = end node (no change)
= = unused identifier
& = Net Coordinator
% = Group Coordinator
^ = Area Coordinator
~ = Subs Coordinator (NEW)
Beta 17 - 01/19/2000 (Release Candidate 4)
==================
- Version change only. No code changes.
Released to coincide with BBS RC4 Release.
Beta 16 - 01/02/2000 (Release Candidate 3)
===================
- Fixed spurious Y2K diplay and logging issues
Beta 15 - 12/19/99 (Release Candidate 2)
==================
- Version change only. No code changes.
Released to coincide with BBS RC2 Release.
Beta 14 - 11/08/99 (Release Candidate 1)
==================
- Added NETWORKF.EXE, a fossil based version of NETWORK.EXE. Has
been running fine on several systems for the last couple of weeks.
This one needs a wringing out since it's a new addition.
- Again, this is a final cut on the EXE's and should be thoroughly
tested.
Beta 12 - 10/04/99
==================
- Removed debugging code
- Cleaned up logging and an analysis message that was not being
generated properly.
- This is a final cut on the EXE's and should be thoroughly tested
Beta 11 - 07/10/99
==================
- Added commandline generation for CEXYZ protocol. Good results so
far on standard network transfers. Needs some thorough testing.
If this protocol is stable and performs well, we may purchase
distribution rights and include the protocol in the package
making it the standard.
Beta 10 - 06/30/99
==================
No major structural changes here. As you can see below, some of the
BBSLIST flags have been redesignated. All of the modem based flags were
made obsolete way back in the Net31 release. Out of nothing more than
habit, they have been used up to the present. Most of the changes are
for supporting future enhancements to the networking package.
Until the network administrators make the appropriate changes to the
data files, you may see several systems listed as the Subs Coordinator.
The ~ flag was formerly used for V.Fast modems which are another breed
gone the way of the dinosaur.
10 digit dialing is now supported by adding a * to the line in
CALLOUT.NET.
= flag now recognized by NETWORK.EXE and not removed when re-writing
network data files.
Type 28 InterBBS Game Packets have not been thoroughly tested as of
this date but should theoretically work. Email WSS if you wish to use
this new feature.
Documentation is forthcoming. Until then, the Net36 docs will give
you all the information you need. The only change is the * for CALLOUT.NET
to use 10 digit dialing.
- No changes. Version change only for Public Beta
Beta 4 - 05/11/99
==================
- Adjusted Network3 Logging
Beta 3 - 05/11/99
==================
- No changes. Version change only
Beta 2 - 03/10/99
==================
- Fixed occasional lockup when receiving type 20/0 pings and
no subs hosted on the system.
- Fixed logging errors.
- Fixed failure to recognize * in CALLOUT.NET if + was set.
Beta 1 - 02/21/99
=================
- Internal timeslicing enhanced - Hopefully less of a CPU hog
- Added * CALLOUT flag for 10 digit dialing support
If you are in an area that requires 10 digit dialing, add a * to
the callout line for systems that require you to dial 10 digits.
The software will dial it for you. Be sure to remove the macro ID
on the callout line, otherwise the macro will be called instead of
the software doing the dialing.
- Added = CALLOUT flag for hiding pending data
Place a = in line in callout.net where you want the pending data
hidden. CAUTION! Systems with this ID will not appear in your ANSI
callout screen, hence you will not be able to call those systems
using the ANSI callout.
- Enhanced logging - should be more readable
- Added type 4 hooks for files and networked directories (Net38?)
- Added type 28 InterBBS Game Packets Minors will be assigned by WSS to
prevent collisions
- Redesignation of (some) BBSLIST flags
