WWIV DOWNLOAD FILE LISTER
VERSION 1.1
by DOUG FIELDS
8/16/88
This .ARC file should contain the following:
LISTF.DOC = This file.
LISTF.EXE = The actual program file.
This program and the affiliated documentation is Copyright (c) 1988 by Doug
Fields. It is released into the freeware market, i.e. I keep my rights but
you get the program free (unless you would like to donate and (possibly) get
the source code (in Turbo C 1.5)).
WHAT IT IS
----------
LISTF is a WWIV utility for versions 4.xx (only tested on 4.04 though), that
prints to the screen or to a file or the printer, the contents of your upload
file directories, in the same format as WWIV does.
HOW TO USE IT
-------------
LISTF's use is really quite simple. The command syntax is:
LISTF [d:][path]<filename> <switches>
Where
d: = (optional) The drive of the upload file directory
file.
path = (optional) The path of the upload file directory
file.
filename = The name of the upload file directory file without
the ".DIR" extension. It is important to leave the
file extention OFF.
switches = (optional) Any of the following:
-H = Do not output the header and footer dividing lines
(good for making plain old files).
EXAMPLES
--------
Here are some examples and their definitions.
"LISTF" This will get you a message showing you how to use the program.
"LISTF ASD*.&^" This will get you an error message saying that it couldn't
open the file "ASD*.&^.DIR".
"LISTF MISC.DIR" This will get you an error message saying that it couldn't
open the file "MISC.DIR.DIR".
"LISTF DATA\MISC" (from your WWIV directory) This will output to the screen
the contents of the download directory file in the DATA
subdirectory with nice formatting.
"LISTF DATA\MISC >PRN" This will output to the printer a dividing line, then
all the files in the directory, then a final dividing
line, while giving status messages on the screen.
"LISTF DATA\MISC -H" This will give you a little less good looking output to
the screen of the contents.
"LISTF DATA\MISC -H >MISC.TXT" This will probabally be the most used form of
the LISTF command. This will print out to the
file MISC.TXT a listing of all your files in
the MISC .DIR file. Then this listing can be
posted in the transfer section for people to
download (saves time looking through the file
listings.
HELP
----
If you have problems with this program, call me at 203-661-2967 or leave
email at the Main WWIV or at MrBill's Abode or at my upcoming BBS, The
Galactic Headquarters. You can also reach me by mail at 100 Midwood Road,
Greenwich, CT 06830-3837. I really prefer the call.
The idea of this program was concieved by someone on the Main WWIV wanted a
utility like this. Well, he got it, in less than 4 hours of my reading of his
request!
REVISION HISTORY
----------------
Version 1.0 (8/16/88) - This was the initial version. No bugs.
Version 1.1 (8/16/88) - This was a version which added the -H command to make
nicer output to files.
Version 2.0 (?/??/88) - This will include wildcards, i.e. this will let you
say LISTF * and it will list all the *.DIR files.
OTHER PRODUCTS
--------------
Other products from me include:
WWIV Time Bank - Distributed as WBNK11UR.ARC, this file is a savings bank
for your user's time. Allows him to save time up for
later recall-- good if he only has 30 minutes online at a
time but wants to download a file that takes 50 minutes.
It requires the source for WWIV from Wayne Bell.
CHATBUG.ARC - This will show you how to fix a serious bug in the
Sysop availability routines for the chatting. Requires
source.
ANSI Logon and - Distributed as ANSISTF.ARC, this file explains how to
ANSI Multi- - make COLOR ANSI menus easy. It splits the menus up into
file menus - different files (just for the COLOR ANSI) for easy
editing. It also allows addition of a LOGON.ANS file for
logon-time viewing by users of COLOR ANSI.
NOTES
-----
I know that probably some people are wondering who this guy is who all of
the sudden burst out into the WWIV world and started taking control <GRIN>.
Well, I'm 15 (almost 16) and going into 11th grade. I program in more than 12
languages (C, Fortran, Pascal, Ada, many assemblies, to name a few), and about
6 fluently and expertly (C being one of the strongest). Last year I took AP
Computer Science and it was really boring so I dropped it, but they are making
me take it again or else they won't let me take the AP exam. I am proud to say
that I can program rings around my computer teacher (but not to his face). I
work for a Marine Fuels industry Bunker Broker as a Professional
Telecommunciations programmer (Aha, that's how he learned all his stuff) and I
have finally decided that I don't like people saying "A What BBS?" when I tell
them I am the sysop of the Greenwich Marine Sales Bunker Bulletin Board
System. So I have decided to take my talents elsewhere and become a Public
Sysop (Hey, how many guys do you know who are sysops of TWO BBSes?). I decided
that WWIV was the perfect engine for my BBS and set about improving (<GRIN>)
it and making it unrecognizable (except for the net stuff-- I am not touching
that mess!). Our BBS (Me and Steve Augustin- I can't afford a $1000 system
with 80 Megs and 2 2400 baud modems and a tape backup alone) is called The
Galactic Headquarters and the phone line is being installed tomorrow. I
endeavor to have it up by September 1, and nobody public may call it until an
initiation call has been made by the master himself, Wayne Bell. Our BBS will
sponsor many message bases, WWIVNet (I would like to be the 203 coordinator,
please, Wayne Bell), and if possible, FIDONet (I am working on combining the
two now). The main thing will be discussions of programming. There will also
be games and alot of downloads (my favorite part of course). (WWIV) Sysops
will have the run of the place and other users will have to register and be
validated.
'Nuff said about my BBS- everyone seems to have one. I like talking with
people and if you are having problems with any of my mods or WWIV in general
give me a call at 203-661-2967 and I'll be glad to help (in other words I'll
try to offer the person-to-person support that WB is unwilling to). If you
find these mods useful, then please send me a donation! As sysops know, this
takes time and money (which doesn't limit me when I am being paid to Sysop,
but does when I do it voluntarily). My home address is 100 Midwood Road,
Greenwich, CT 06830-3837. Feel free to call me anytime; I enjoy chatting and
if you are calling long distance then I understand your necessity of down to
the point conversations.
If anyone would like any mods done, please suggest them to me (through the
MAIN WWIV, or Mr Bill's Abode, or my BBS soon to be released) and I will try
to implement the changes and write a .MOD file like this one.
I am currently working on translating many of the games I wrote into WWIV
format (what a shitty (rated R part) and boring thing to do) using the
COMMON1.PAS and other stuff. Expect this stuff late 4th quarter, as I do have
school you know.
Now a time to endorse my WWIV Time Bank. This is a program (which should be
downloadable as file: WBNK11UR.ARC) distributed in much the same fashion as Mr
Bill's Casino, that allows users to save up time from their account (up to 90
minutes) for use later. It is very small and VERY fast and easy to install.
Please get it and use it-- Spread my name! (what an egotist...) Okay folks
that about wraps it up.
100 Midwood Road Sincerely,
Greenwich, CT 06830-3837 Doug Fields
