DreamRANDOM Docs.. This be for WWIV systems! Should work with ANY version!
Nothing really 'formal' here... just a note to tell you what
this is and what it does.
I've read countless posts, emails, notes, etc... with people
wanting a way to randomize their welcome screens. Mods here,
changes there, etc... so I decided to whip this up. This pgm
will let you have up to 99,999,999 random WELCOME.ANS, LOGON.ANS,
and LOGOFF.ANS screens. (Good luck drawing that many! <g>)...
anyhoo... here's how to set it up...
Make a dir for it somewhere... C:\WWIV\RAN is nice an generic..
unzip this file into that dir.
First thing you need to do it edit RANDOM.CFG with your
favorite text-editor.
Here's what it does, is, means, and such...
c:\wwiv\gfiles\
Y

Line 1 : Your Gfiles dir (MUST have the trailing \ !);
Line 2 : Y if you want randomized welcome screens;
Line 3 : Y if you want randomized logon screens;
Line 4 : Y if you want randomized logoff screens;
Line 5 : # of random welcome screens;
Line 6 : # of random logon screens;
Line 7 : # of random logoff screens;
anything past line 7 is ignored.
Now... copy your ansi's to your DRandom dir in the following format:
xxxxxxxx.WEL (Welcome Screens)
xxxxxxxx.LON (Logon Screens)
xxxxxxxx.LOF (Logoff Screens)
where xxxxxxxx is 1 - 99999999 (ie: 1.WEL, 2.WEL, 9000.WEL, etc..)
Your numbering MUST be sequential, else it won't work. Skip a
number, and goof it up! <g>
Now.. edit your logon.bat as follows...
@echo off
BLAH BLAH BLAH...
C:
CD \wwiv\ran
RANDOM
cd \wwiv
BLAH BLAH BLAH
So there, you're all set! <g> Now logon and check it out.

Whew!
If someone wants more random screens, like, oh.. for 4.23.. the xfer area,
chains, etc etc etc... drop me a line and I'll add it in, no big headache.
(I might even add an automatic config pgm in the next release... <g>)
I have found a few of these pgms out there in the world, but all of them
wanted $$$$ for registration. For a little pgm like this (which I
crunched out in less than an hour... including writing this docfile),
$$$$ is not necessary... (Nothing against the other authors!) Soooo...
to register this pgm, you MUST to the following!!!
1. Unzip the File
2. Set it up
3. Use it!
That's it... easy, eh? So ignore the 30 day limit! <g>
