COPYLOG II
Okay here's the deal. As you probably know WWIV only keeps the old
*.LOG files for two days, then they are deleted. It is a good idea to keep a
record of who was on your System and what they did as well as a detailed
account of all Net Transfers. This little baby is just the ticket. It's
easy to install and the best thing is once you install it you NEVER have to
do a thing with it becuase it works all by itslelf so even the dumbest of
you can't mess it up.
FILES IN COPYLOGII.ZIP
INSTALL.BAT
OLD_LOGS.BAT
README.NOW <===this file dummy
Here is what COPYLOG II does. It creates another directory, not a sub
directory under WWIV but seperate Directory called C:\RECORDS. What gets
stored in this new directory is all your *.NET files along with some other
important files that YOU SHOULD keep back-ups of. NAMES.LST, USER.LST and
CONFIG.DAT. This way if the upcoming sunspot activity in the 90s cleans your
clock you will have copies of this this neat stuff and you'd be right back in
business, toot sweet. It also makes a ZIP file of all your *.LOG files each
day and stores it in the newly created RECORDS directory. Now it's a good
idea to back EVERYTHING up that is in your RECORDS directory onto floppies
every month or so. This way if your hard drive gets totaly woofed and you
have to run right out and buy a new one, you'll still be up and running in
no time and your users won't have to all logon as NEW users. If anyone has
seen this movie before, it's not a pretty one.
CAUTION
Before you install this program check and see if your main BBS
Directory, (wherever BBS.EXE is located), is called BBS. If you call it
something else then you will have to edit both INSTALL & OLD_LOG.BAT using
your favorite ASCII editor and change \BBS\OLD_LOG to \WHATEVER\OLD_LOG,
understand? Good.
Also, be sure you don't already have a Directory called RECORDS. If
you do, rename the sucker to something else, I don't care what just do it
before you run INSTALL.
If you are already using the first version of COPYLOG then DON'T run
this program. Instead use COPYLOGU.ZIP. This will leave the existing porgram
intact and augment it with the new features of COPYLOG2.
INSTALLATION
You MUST have a working copy of PKZIP.EXE somewhere on your hard drive
so as this program can access it. If you don't go leech it off of one of the
local PC Boards.
Unpack COPYLOG2.ZIP in your BBS directory and type INSATLL. Watch
as your hard drive spins! No it's not formating your drive or planting some
bug, relax, all it's doing is making a Sub Directory under your main BBS
directory and a seperate directory off your root.
Next, run INIT and select option 4, Exteranl Programs. Program
to run is...that's right you guessed it, OLD_LOG. Next thing you will do
is pick a time for this program to run. You enter a timed event in WWIV by
first desiding on the time then calculating the time from midnight by minutes
and entering the combined minutes.
EXAMPLE: If you want the program to run at 1:00 AM you would enter
60. If you wanted it to run at 2:00 AM you would enter 120. Get it?
That's it dude, you did it. Congratulate yourself, now it's Miller
Time!
Oh, I take no responability whatsoever if this program somehow
rots your hard drive, melts your monitor or does any damage to your computer,
data, computer peripherals or yourself.
