This is a little utility to help you make custom coloring your WWIV message
base title names easier. It should include this doc file, a small batch
file and an .exe file. Unzip these into your DATA, GFILES, & MSGS directories.
Or come up with an alternative. :)
Whichever subboard title you want to colorize, add C's to the name in the
following way, from BOARDEDIT:
"Current Events" would become "C1Current EventsC2"
You must do that part.
Next, type COLORMSG filename.ext from the appropriate directory. This will
change the title to blue (1=blue, 2=yellow, 3=magenta, 4=white/blue,
5=green, 6=blinking red, 0=white).
Your original file will be renamed to MSGSOLD.!!! automatically.
Have fun!
Extra instruction from Sihkahr:
This version of the program will let you colorize any text file by using a
standard text editor on it to add the C#'s as you would use CTRL-P# in posts
or E-mail. Use it on your menus, bbslist, etc.
It won't work on the voting.dat file, I tried,it ate it. Fortunately the
original gets renamed MSGSOLD.!!!.
SYNTAX: COLORMSG filename.ext

less than tech.

This gives a little more detail as to what you can color with this program.
To color your BBSlist (The 'B' command) just edit the BBSLIST.MSG file, with
any text editor, & insert the colors where you want them.
Then type: COLORMSG BBSLIST.MSG
To add color to Subs, just run //BOARDEDIT & Add colors as such:
C1AC2NC3SC5I C7ArtC2
The above line says ANSI Art, with the "ANSI" being multi-colored & the "Art"
in color 7. The C2 at the end is for neatness & is not required.
For example: C1General C2Humdrum <----no need to add it at the end since it's
before Humdrum, because the color stays in effect 'til you change to another
color or run into the end of the line. Whichever comes first.
After adding the color, exit the BBS (It won't color in the BBS's shell,
unless you do it remotely.)
& change to your DATA dir (where you should have COLORMSG) & type:
COLORMSG SUBS.DAT. That's it. Just restart the BBS & enjoy the colors.
To color File Directories, run //DIREDIT in the same fashion you did with
//BOARDEDIT to add colors, then exit & type: COLORMSG DIRS.DAT.
To color Game titles, run //CHAINEDIT again add colors then exit & type:
COLORMSG CHAINS.DAT
To color Gfile titles, run //GFILEEDIT, add colors, exit, & type:
COLORMSG GFILES.DAT
