WILDSCAN! v1.10 INTRODUCTION
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
INTRODUCTION
We at Online Computer Resources are a third party developer for
WILDCAT! BBS systems and we have been producing quality programs
for over 6 years. These products have ranged from simple file
listing programs to highly advanced Echomail and Unix mail
processors. Of more recent years, our focus has been primarily
on Email handling (in any form) for the users of WILDCAT!
systems, but with this product, we are again targeting the file
side of BBSing.
WHAT IS WILDSCAN!
WILDSCAN! is a full featured upload file processor written
specifically for WILDCAT! BBS systems. It will process newly
uploaded files, either offline at a time of your choosing, or
while the user is online. WILDSCAN! will scan the uploaded file
for viruses using your favorite virus scanner and will recompress
the file in the compression format of your choice. You may also
instruct WILDSCAN! to reject files based on their age if so
desired. You also have the ability to convert GIF graphics files
to another format such as JPG, or you can convert JPG files to
another format such as GIF and so on.
So you can see that WILDSCAN! offers you a lot of flexibility in
the way it is set up and executed. Choices. WILDSCAN! gives you
more processing choices than any other program plus stability
backed up by the largest third party vendor for WILDCAT! SysOps.
To facilitate simple and easy installation, a special program has
been included that performs nearly all of the configuration and
creation of directories for you automatically. This process
removes a vast majority of the installation worries and allows
you to concentrate on using the new features without having to be
concerned about all the minute details.
The configuration program incorporates all the common editing
features and option checking you've come to expect while at the
same time preventing you from misconfiguring the program prior to
execution. This removes a vast majority of configuration
headaches often associated with this level of file processing.
Above all, both the configuration and main programs have been
designed from the ground up with a novice in mind.

WILDSCAN! v1.10 30 DAY EVALUATION
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
30 DAY EVALUATION KEY FILE
WILDSCAN! utilizes a special file to activate its usage for a
period of 30 days. This method allows the program to be fully
utilized with all options enabled for the duration of the
evaluation period. If the product hasn't been registered after
the thirty days, WILDSCAN! will inform you it has expired and
will simply cease to run.
Since the current method of distribution prevents a "dated" key
file from being included in the distribution file, you must dial
up the support board (listed below) and create this special key
file. The Main Menu option #3, "Create Evaluation Keys"
initiates this process whereby you simply enter in the required
information and then follow the instructions for downloading.
The WILDSCAN! support board may reached by dialing:
(707) 552-0602 - USR HST (2 lines)
(707) 552-0636 - v32bis (3 lines)
(707) 552-2344 - USR DS (2 lines)
Only one key per person/registration number is allowed.
UPGRADE POLICY
It has always been our position to charge only for major upgrades
to our programs. All other minor releases are free. By minor we
mean that a release of the same major version number will be free
to those that have already registered the product. The major
number is the one to the left of the decimal point and minor is
the number to the right of the decimal point.
v1.00
Major | Minor
For example, and if you wish to upgrade from v1.00 to v2.xx, you
would be changing major version numbers (i.e. - v1 to v2) and
there would be the required fee. If you were upgrading from
v1.00 to v1.10, there would be no upgrade fee because the major
version number is still the same (i.e. - v1 to v1). The above
reference to v2 is for example only.

perform. Shown below is a step by step installation guide.
1) Create a subdirectory called \WS on your local hard
drive and uncompress WS110.ZIP using PKZIP.EXE v2.04 or
later to that directory.
2) Change to the root directory of your bootable drive and
edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file and add the following SET
command to the file:
SET WILDSCAN=C:\WS
The SET WILDSCAN statement tells WILDSCAN! where to
find its configuration files and is very important for
proper operation. After adding the SET command
outlined above, add the DOS path where WILDSCAN! was
installed to your DOS PATH statement (C:\WS) in your
AUTOEXEC.BAT file so that WILDSCAN! may be executed
from any <drive:\directory> location.
3) Change directories to your WILDCAT! home directory
(usually \WC30) and edit the batch file called
SCANFILE.BAT that is executed after a file has been
uploaded to WILDCAT!.
For single line WILDCAT! systems, SCANFILE.BAT should
look similar to:
@ECHO OFF
CD\WC30\WCWORK\NODE1
WS %1
For multi-line WILDCAT! systems, SCANFILE.BAT should
look like:
@ECHO OFF
CD\WC30\WCWORK\NODE%WCNODEID%
WS %1
The basic process here is to change directories to the
nodes specific work directory and then execute
WILDSCAN! with the %1 command line parameter. The
value of this parameter will be passed by WILDCAT! and
will contain the name of the file WILDSCAN! should
process.
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Revised: 01/19/94 Page 5
WILDSCAN! v1.10 FIRST TIME INSTALLATION
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
NOTE: If you do not have the SET WCNODEID statement
and you are running a multiline copy of
WILDCAT! with more than one node running,
then you *MUST* add the SET statement to each
of your CAT.BAT files that start up each of
your nodes in WILDCAT!. If you do not add
the SET statement, then WILDSCAN! will not
work correctly and in all likelihood you will
run the risk of corrupting all your WILDCAT!
data files.
4) You should be in the \WS directory now. Type WSCONFIG
and press [ENTER]. The main configuration program menu
appears.
From here, you should read through the various configuration
screens, making changes as necessary and pressing [F1] for help
on settings you're unsure of. The following section of the
documentation discusses all the configuration options and their
various settings.
KEY FILE
As mentioned in various locations throughout the documentation,
you should make sure you've already downloaded a 30 day
evaluation key and copied it into the \WS directory before
executing WILDSCAN!. If you haven't done this already, WILDSCAN!
will not run without a key file.

WILDSCAN! v1.10 USER INTERFACE
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
USER INTERFACE
WSCONFIG!, the configuration program for WILDSCAN! has been
designed from the ground up with the novice user in mind. A lot
of extra care has been spent in thinking through the features in
an effort to simplify the configuration process.
Industry standard selection and entry techniques are employed
throughout the program as well as good old fashioned common sense
programming. The [ESC] key is used to abort any process, and
pressing [F1] brings up help information.
Context Sensitive Help
Full context sensitive help is available anywhere by simply
pressing the [F1] key. This means that whatever the current
cursor position is, pressing the [F1] key brings up help
information relative to that field.
You may also press [F1] a second time to display a list of
help topics to choose from. Simply position the highlight
bar on the desired topic and press [ENTER]. Once you've
finished viewing the help information, pressing the [ESC]
key returns you to the previous configuration screen.
Throughout the help topics, certain portions of the help
text may contain highlighted words or phrases. For those
viewing in color, this is White Text on a Cyan background
and mono systems is White Text on a Black background.
This highlighted text indicates that a relative subtopic is
available for viewing. Simply position the cursor to the
highlighted text and press [ENTER]. When you've finished
viewing this subtopic, pressing ALT [F1] will return you to
the previous help topic.
Status Bar
Throughout the configuration process, a status bar located
at the bottom of the screen always indicates the available
options. Depending on where you are in the configuration
process, these options will change automatically.

WILDSCAN! v1.10 WSCONFIG! SETUP AND CONFIGURATION
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
WSCONFIG! SETUP AND CONFIGURATION
As stated earlier, WSCONFIG.EXE is the configuration program used
the define the operational characteristics of WILDSCAN!. This
program must be executed from the WILDSCAN! directory and should
not be executed while WILDSCAN! is processing files.
DATA FILES USED
Shown below is a description of the various data files WSCONFIG!
maintains/uses for proper configuration of WILDSCAN!.
WSCONFIG.DAT Main configuration settings including
defaults, paths, archivers, and so on.
WSCONFIG.HLP This is the online help file used when
pressing [F1] on a selected field. This file
is not editable and must exist in the
WILDSCAN! directory.
WSDATA.DAT/IX Database of bad file names, file names to add
to archives.
WSRIP.DAT Data file containing all the RIP prompts.
MENU SELECTIONS
The following pages are divided up into categories as selected
from the Main Menu. Each category having its own options and
sub-menus and are presented in the order they appear on the Main
Menu.
You may select the desired option by either pressing the
associated hot key (accentuated by a different colored letter in
the option name) or by positioning the highlight bar by using the
Up/Dn arrow keys and pressing [ENTER].

WILDSCAN! v1.10 COMMAND LINE PARAMETERS
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
COMMAND LINE PARAMETERS
WILDSCAN! has been designed to be operated in a variety of
different ways. While you may find it gets executed the majority
of the time from within WILDCAT!, there are a number of other
ways to use WILDSCAN!.
To control WILDSCAN!, you would normally use what are called
command line parameters. These are special parameters that you
add to the same "line" (whether it's from the DOS command line,
or from a batch file command line) you execute WILDSCAN!. These
parameters must be separated by at least one space.
You may use any combination of upper/lower case and positioning
or ordering on the command line is unimportant. Shown below is a
description of each the available command line parameters grouped
according its usage.
FILE MASK SPECIFICATIONS
WILDSCAN! has been designed to use a wide variety of possible
wildcard character combinations in determining what files it
should process. You may specify a typical *.*, *.ZIP, *.SDN and
so on.
For all execution methods of WILDSCAN!, at least one file must
always be specified either through a file specification mask or
as an actual file name.
Example Usage: WS C:\TEMP\*.ZIP
or
WS C:\TEMP\ARCHIVE.ZIP
In the following discussion of parameters, it is assumed that at
least one file name has been specified for every execution
whether it be via an exact file name, or a file mask.
OPERATIONAL MODE PARAMETERS
The following parameters dictate the processing mode that
WILDSCAN! will operate under.
POSTPROCESS
This command line parameter is used to tell WILDSCAN! that
it should read the contents of the post processing file and
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Revised: 01/19/94 Page 9
WILDSCAN! v1.10 COMMAND LINE PARAMETERS
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
process the files list therein. Normally this post
processing list file is called WSPOST.LST and exists in the
main WILDSCAN! directory.
Example Usage: WS POSTPROCESS
If you've configured WILDSCAN! to process files offline,
WILDSCAN! will add the file name that has just been uploaded
by the caller to this post processing file. Then you could
execute WILDSCAN! will this parameter at a more appropriate
time, possibly during a night event.
COMMENT
This parameter will process the files specified via the
supplied file mask and add the contents of the comment file
to the archives that support commenting. In other words,
when the archive is uncompressed, the comments added here
will be displayed on the screen.
Example Usage: WS COMMENT C:\AREA1\*.*
In the above example, all files contain within C:\AREA1 will
be processed. Only primary archives will have the comments
added. No uncompressing of files is performed during this
process, so embedded archives will not be processed.
/ADDNEWTOWC
This options tells WILDSCAN! to add each specified file to
the WILDCAT! database if it hasn't been already added. When
using this parameter, you *must* include the /LOCAL command
line parameter as well.
Example Usage: WS /LOCAL /ADDNEWTOWC C:\TEMP\*.*
This would most commonly be used to scan and add new files
to WILDCAT! without going through the upload process. If
WILDSCAN! encounters a file already in the database it will
leave the original information intact and simply move on to
the next file.
This parameter will move the files from the specified DOS
path into the file area defined on the General
Information/DOS Path screen. You could also specify a that
file areas specified directory, but no file "movement" will
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Revised: 01/19/94 Page 10
WILDSCAN! v1.10 COMMAND LINE PARAMETERS
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
be performed.
Once the files have been successfully moved, WILDSCAN! will
process the files normally.
OVERRIDE PARAMETERS
The following parameters are used in combination with other
parameters to form a complete specification for WILDSCAN! to work
with.
/LOCAL
Normally you would be executing WILDSCAN! from within
WILDCAT! and because of that, it expects certain files such
as DOOR.SYS, USERINFO.DAT and so on to exist in the nodes
work directory.
This parameter is used to tell WILDSCAN! not look for these
files and that it to be executed locally. This parameter is
normally used in conjunction with a file mask specification
to tell WILDSCAN! the files(s) it should be processed
locally.
/DIGI or /UART
In WSCONFIG! you would normally select the communications
port type of either UART or DigiBoard (intelligent DigiPort
board). For those systems that use both regular serial
ports (UART) and the DigiBoard on the same machine, this
parameter can be used to override the default value.
Example Usage: WS %1 /DIGI
or
WS %1 /UART
Because these parameters are used with serial ports, you
would normally only use them when WILDSCAN! is executed from
within WILDCAT! via the SCANFILE.BAT file.
/NODUPECHK
This option allows you to override the duplicate checking
ability of WILDSCAN!. This effectively disables all CRC
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Revised: 01/19/94 Page 11
WILDSCAN! v1.10 COMMAND LINE PARAMETERS
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
checking for the duration of WILDSCAN!'s processing. This
would most likely be used in combination with the /LOCAL or
/POSTPROCESS command line parameters.
If you have disabled duplicate checking within WSCONFIG!,
this parameter will have no effect.
VIDEO DISPLAY PARAMETERS
The following parameters are used to set the video display mode
that WILDSCAN! should operate under. WILDSCAN! is intelligent
enough to know what mode its currently operating in and will
restore that mode upon exiting.
Example Usage: WS POSTPROCESS /5
/C Enable color display. This parameter is ignored
in monochrome systems.
/M Force monochrome mode.
/2 Force 25 line mode.
/5 Force 43/50 line mode. The resultant mode will be
determined by your video card.
For those systems that support 43/50 line mode, we highly
recommend using it because a much larger screen is displayed
giving you a much better representation of everything that
WILDSCAN! is doing.

Revised: 01/19/94 Page 12
WILDSCAN! v1.10 GENERAL INFORMATION/DOS PATHS
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
GENERAL INFORMATION/DOS PATHS
This menu option is used to define certain directory paths and
processing options for WILDSCAN!. Shown below is a complete
breakdown of the available configuration options from this
screen.
Type of serial port:
This option tells WILDSCAN! what type of hardware you are
using to communicate with the modem. This setting is
important because it determines how WILDSCAN! will manage
the communication port. Tapping the [SPACEBAR] toggles
through the available choices:
UART This setting refers to your standard serial
communications port such as COM1, COM2 etc.
DigiBoard This setting is necessary if you're using the
IM version of WILDCAT!
While the value chosen here is considered the default, this
may be overridden on a node by node basis by use of a
special command line parameter when executing WILDSCAN!.
These parameters are:
For Digiboard systems : WS /DIGI
For standard serial ports: WS /UART
For additional information on these parameters, please refer
to the WILDSCAN! documentation.
Depending on single/multi-line operation, the necessary port
configuration information is taken from the DOOR.SYS file
generated by WILDCAT! for the specific node along with
certain values read from the WILDCAT! .MDM (modem definition
file).
This "auto-detect" process eliminates a vast majority of the
configuration headaches associated with multi-line systems
running on a single machine. The bottom line here is
simple, if you can make WILDCAT! work properly, WILDSCAN!
will drop right in.
Swap to:
When WILDSCAN! uncompresses, recompresses or scans files it
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Revised: 01/19/94 Page 13
WILDSCAN! v1.10 GENERAL INFORMATION/DOS PATHS
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
swaps out of memory so that it frees up as much memory for
the uncompressor/compressor/scanner program. This option
allows you to specify where the swap file should be placed
when WILDSCAN! swaps out of memory.
Tapping the [SPACEBAR] toggles through the available choices
of Disk EMS, or XMS.
You will need about 300k of EMS/XMS to utilize the swap
feature. If you specify EMS and WILDSCAN! does not find
enough EMS, it will swap to Disk.
Swap file location:
This option allows you to specify a <drive:\directory>
location for the swap file if the Swap Type is set to DISK.
A typical definition might be:
C:\WS\SWAP\
Normal DOS conventions must followed, you must enter a valid
<drive:\directory> location for the swap file.
If you have a RAM drive you could enter the drive location
in this field, thus making the swap extremely fast. This
field only becomes enterable if you specify DISK as the swap
type.
WILDCAT! Home directory/path:
This option allows you to define the <drive:\directory>
where your WILDCAT! home directory resides.
A typical definition might be:
C:\WC30\
During WILDSCAN!'s course of execution, if needs to read and
possibly update certain information from MAKEWILD.DAT,
CONFDESC.DAT and FILEDESC.DAT files. The path specified
here should be the same as where these files reside.
It should be pointed out that throughout the configuration
program, the path specified here will be used for the
various pick lists for WILDCAT! conferences, file areas and
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

WILDSCAN! v1.10 GENERAL INFORMATION/DOS PATHS
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Post processing list generation. If this path is incorrect,
you will be so informed and the function will not operate.
Once you change this setting to accurately reflect WILDCAT!
home directory, these selection lists and functions will now
perform as expected.
WILDSCAN! log file name and path:
This option allows you to define the <drive:\directory> and
<filename> of the log file which WILDSCAN! will use to
report activities associated with post processing.
Specifically, this log will contain all activity associated
with "off-line" processing by WILDSCAN!
Normal DOS path and file naming conventions must be adhered
to. A typical definition might be:
C:\WS\WS.LOG
During the course of WILDSCAN!'s execution, if the specified
file name does not exist, a new one will be automatically
generated.
Pressing ALT-V allows you to view the contents of this log
file.
NOTE: In multi-line systems, a special "activity log"
will be generated using the name specified here,
but the extension will reflect the node number.
These node specific log files will contain
information about the files WILDSCAN! has
processed while the callers were online.
For example, if you were to choose a log name of
C:\WS\WS.LOG, Node 2 and Node 3's activity logs
will be called WS.002 and WS.003 respectively.
Post process file name and path:
This option allows you to define <drive:\directory> and
<filename> of the list of files that should be processed
when WILDSCAN! is executed with the LOCAL command line
parameter.
A typical definition might be:
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

C:\WS\WSPOST.LST
ALT-V Pressing this key sequence allows you to display
the contents of the file.
ALT-E This allows you to edit the file and make any
necessary changes. This editor is limited and
will edit files up to approximately 10K in size.
If either the file name is invalid or the file is
too large, the configuration program will beep and
prohibit the process.
This file defined here will be created (or appended to) by
WILDSCAN! if either the option found on the Operating
Parameters screen is toggled as follows:
Perform file recompression offline: Y
or if the option found on the Graphic File Processing screen
is toggled as follows:
Process graphic files offline: Y
The file is in standard ASCII text format which will contain
a complete <drive:\directory\filename> specification for
each file on a one-file-per-line basis. This list of files
is read by WILDSCAN! when it's executed with the POSTPROCESS
command line parameter similar to:
WS POSTPROCESS
WILDSCAN! will then perform the appropriate compression
action of each of the defined files. For more information
on the POSTPROCESS parameter, please refer to the
appropriate section in the WILDSCAN! documentation.
Archive comment file name and path:
This option allows you to specify the <drive:\directory> and
<filename> of the text file containing comment information
which you would want WILDSCAN! to add to the distribution
archives "comment" specification.
This information is what will be displayed when the end user
uncompresses the file and thus shouldn't be confused with
adding a file "to" the distribution archive.

Work file path:
This option allows you to define the <drive:\directory>
where WILDSCAN! will perform it's scanning, recompressing
and various other processes during the course of its
execution.
A typical specification might be:
C:\TEMP\
Ideally you would specify a RAM drive with at least 4Mb's of
space. This would speed up the process of scanning and
recompressing immensely thereby reducing your callers wait
time while they're online.

Otherwise, a typical DOS drive will suffice as long as it
has plenty of free disk space to process the files in.
WILDCAT! file area for auto add:
Using the /ADDNEWTOWC command line parameter when executing
WILDSCAN! allows you to add files to the WILDCAT! database
by simply specifying the filemask to use. This option tells
WILDSCAN! what file area in WILDCAT! these newly added files
should be placed into.
Pressing [F2] brings up a list of WILDCAT! file areas to
choose from. Positioning the highlight bar on the desired
area and pressing [ENTER] selects the area number and
returns you to previous screen.

Revised: 01/19/94 Page 18
WILDSCAN! v1.10 OPERATING PARAMETERS
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
OPERATING PARAMETERS
WILDSCAN! has been divided up into several sections with each
section relative to a certain type of processing. This section
defines the basic rules by which all of the remaining sections of
processing will abide by. In other words, you define all the
common operating characteristics for each section here.
Shown below is a description of each of these options.
Update file date in WILDCAT!:
By default, when a file is uploaded to WILDCAT!, the date of
the upload is used as the actual file date in the files
database. While this is useful for callers using the [N]ew
uploaded files function of WILDCAT!, it doesn't accurately
reflect the date of the file itself.
This option allows you to define whether or not WILDSCAN!
should update the file date information within WILDCAT! to
match the date of the actual file.
Setting this option to Y means WILDSCAN! will read the date
on the file and make sure the WILDCAT! database reflects the
same date. A special note, if the uploaded file was dated
before the current date, it will not appear in the [N]ew
files listing.
Setting this option to N instructs WILDSCAN! to use the
default setting of WILDCAT! of using the date of the upload
as the actual file date in the database.
Compress unarchived files to default:
This option allows you to determine whether or not WILDSCAN!
should compress files using the default compression method
selected when it encounters a uncompressed file. By
uncompressed, we mean files such as those in standard ASCII
format which typically use the file name extensions of .TXT,
.DOC and so on.
Setting this option to Y instructs WILDSCAN! to compress the
file while setting it to N leaves the file in its native
format.
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Revised: 01/19/94 Page 19
WILDSCAN! v1.10 OPERATING PARAMETERS
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Perform file recompression offline:
During the course of processing files uploaded by a caller,
a certain amount of time is required to perform the checks
and testing processes. If you choose to have WILDSCAN!
perform recompress, format conversions and so on, these
processes add to the total time required to process these
uploads. This increases the amount of "idle time" the
uploader of the file has to wait while he/she is online.
This option allows you specify whether or not WILDSCAN!
should include this recompression and/or conversion process
while the caller is online. With this option set to Y, the
caller will be forced to wait while WILDSCAN! performs the
required steps.
While most files only take a matter of a few seconds to
process, if you have callers uploading very large files,
this wait time can amount to several minutes.
With this option set to N, WILDSCAN! will perform the
necessary scanning process, but will skip the recompress
and/or conversion processes and instead, add the newly
uploaded file name to the post processing list file defined
on the General Information screen.
This list may then be processed during a normally scheduled
event such as those done during off-peak calling times.
Perform duplicate checking on uploads:
This option allows you to specify whether or not you wish to
have WILDSCAN! check the currently uploaded archives
contents to see if any of those files match previously
uploaded archives contents.
This option works in harmony with WILDCAT!'s duplicate
checking where by WILDCAT! will check for duplicate "archive
names" and WILDSCAN! will check the archives contents for
duplicate files previously uploaded to WILDCAT! under a
different archive name.
A special database maintained by WILDSCAN! stores special
calculation values on each archives imbedded files. When a
new archive is uploaded, it's imbedded files are calculated
and then checked to see if they match any in the database.
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Revised: 01/19/94 Page 20
WILDSCAN! v1.10 OPERATING PARAMETERS
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
If no match is found, its calculated value is added to the
duplicates database and processing continues normally.
If they do match (meaning the imbedded file is contained
inside on another uploaded archive), you can specify a
percentage of new files to allow before actually failing the
entire archive. For more specific information, refer to the
"% of new files before passing archive" option.
Setting this option (Perform duplicate checking on uploads)
to Y enables the "% of new files before passing archive"
option and instructs WILDSCAN! to maintain a database of
uploaded files and their contents.
Setting this option to N disables all duplicate checking and
relies on WILDCAT!'s archive name checking for duplicate
processing.
% of new files before passing archive:
This option allows you to specify a percentage value whereby
WILDSCAN! will determine whether to pass/fail an uploaded
archive on the number of duplicate file names found within
the archive.
At first this might sound a little confusing, but I think
you'll see it's pretty straight forward. For example, let's
say a archive called MARIO100.ZIP is uploaded to the BBS
which contains 10 files. 3 of those files were found in the
duplicates database. With the following settings:
Percentage Result
────────── ──────
100 Fail
90 Fail
80 Fail
70 Pass
60 Pass
50 Pass
NOTE: The Percentage values shown above are the values
entered by you. The Result column is whether or
not WILDSCAN! will pass/fail the file based upon
the above examples files contents. (MARIO100.ZIP)
You can see that if you set the percentage value at 70%, 3
files can fail the duplicate check (those three had already
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Revised: 01/19/94 Page 21
WILDSCAN! v1.10 OPERATING PARAMETERS
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
been added to the database only under a different name) but
WILDSCAN! will pass the archive (MARIO100.ZIP) because it
was within the percentage allowed.
Had the value been set to 80%, the archive would have been
failed by WILDSCAN!.
The value you specify here is definitely a personal
preference. For complete security, you could specify a
value of 100%. This means if any file in the uploaded
archive is duplicated, then the entire archive will be
failed. If you're a little more tolerant, then a value of
90-80% may be more to your liking.
File rejection method:
WILDSCAN! allows you to reject or fail files uploaded to
your BBS based upon date or age checking. This feature
allows your BBS to only accept files that fall within the
minimums specified by you.
Two basic categories are considered in this test. Date
checking and age checking. At first glance, you might think
they're pretty much the same thing, and they are. The
division is made here to simplify the understanding of the
calculations WILDSCAN! will use.
Date refers to a specific month/day/year that files must be
newer than where Age refers to the number of days "old" the
uploaded file is. Tapping the [SPACEBAR] toggles through
the available choices and shown below is a description of
the available settings.
None WILDSCAN! will not perform any age or date
checking. Selecting this setting will also
"protect" the remaining fields on the screen
because they will no longer be needed.
Age WILDSCAN! will use the value contained in the
field: "Maximum age of files to reject" to
calculate the age requirements of the file.
Date WILDSCAN! will use the date defined in the field:
"Maximum date of files to reject" as a basis in
determining validity. If the date of the file is
older than that date, the file will be rejected,
otherwise it will pass.
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Revised: 01/19/94 Page 22
WILDSCAN! v1.10 OPERATING PARAMETERS
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
For those files that fail any of these tests, the "File
reject action" setting dictates the disposition of the
failed file(s).
File rejection action:
This option allows you to dictate what course of action
WILDSCAN! should take when one of the file(s) uploaded fail
either the virus scan, date/age or resolution checks it
makes.
Tapping the [SPACEBAR] toggles through the available choices
and shown below is a description of the various settings.
Set failed flag
This option instructs WILDSCAN! to create a file called
SCANFILE.BAD in the node's work directory whereby
WILDCAT! will interpret this as a signal by WILDSCAN!
that the file has failed the scanning process.
WILDCAT! will then set the "Failed Scan" flag in the
files database and no one will be able to download the
file until this flag has been manually removed. The
uploaded file will not be processed further and will be
left in the upload directory.
Delete file
This setting is rather final in that if the uploaded
file is failed by WILDSCAN!, it will not only be
deleted from the WILDCAT! files database, but it will
also be completely removed from the DOS directory.
Move file
This option is a bit more tolerant than the above
setting. This will instruct WILDSCAN! to move the file
from the upload directory and place it in a file area
defined by you. This gives you the ability to take a
closer look at the file at a more convenient time.
NOTE: In all cases of a failed file by WILDSCAN!, a
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

WILDSCAN! v1.10 OPERATING PARAMETERS
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
special semaphore file called SCANFILE.BAD will be
created in the nodes work directory and WILDCAT!
interpret this as a failed file and proceed to
flag the file as bad and disallow any upload time
credits to the caller.
Maximum age of files to reject (days):
This option allows you to specify the number of days "old"
the file is (as compared to the current date) before the
file will be rejected.
The value defined here is the number of days calculated from
the present date that the file will be considered
acceptable. If the file is 100 days old and the value
specified here is 90, the file will be rejected.
This option is made available when the "Type of reject"
option has been set to Age with the file(s) ultimate
disposition being controlled by the "File reject action"
option setting.
Maximum date of files to reject:
The setting here is used in conjunction with the "Type of
file reject" whereby the date specified here will be
considered the oldest acceptable date before rejecting a
file. In otherwords, if the file is dated later than the
date specified here, it will be rejected.
The date format is:
mm/dd/yy
where mm = Month, dd = Day, yy = Year
The file(s) ultimate disposition is controlled by the "File
reject action" option setting.
WC file area to move rejected files:
This option allows you to select which file area in WILDCAT!
WILDSCAN! should move a file to which has been rejected.
Normally you would reserve a specific file area where only
you as the SysOp would have access to. This prevents
accidental downloading of the file before it can be more

thoroughly checked.
Pressing [F2] on this field brings up a list of file areas
configured in WILDCAT!. Positioning the highlight bar on
the desired area and pressing [ENTER] copies the
corresponding area number into the configuration.
In order for the list to display properly, you must have
previously defined the WILDCAT! home directory path,
otherwise nothing will happen.

WILDSCAN! v1.10 VIRUS SCANNER CONFIGURATION
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
VIRUS SCANNER CONFIGURATION
WILDSCAN! allows you to define up to 5 different virus scanning
programs that may be used during the scanning phase of
processing. These definitions carry a special active flag that
indicates whether or not WILDSCAN! should execute them.
This special flag allows you to define several different virus
scanners and test the performance side by side against the other
definitions. Complete definition checking is performed by
WSCONFIG! and ultimately by WILDSCAN! prior to execution.
You may also toggle all of the virus scanners as inactive if you
would like to disable the virus scanning process entirely. If
you do this, a special note is placed in the appropriate nodes
log file and processing continues normally.
FIELD DEFINITIONS
As mentioned above, there are five possible definition for virus
scanners. Shown below is a description of the various fields.
Active:
When defining a virus scanning program to use, the setting
here reflects its current status. This dictates whether or
not WILDSCAN! will execute the associated program(s) during
the scanning phase of file processing.
Yes This setting tells WILDSCAN! to execute the
program. More than one program may be toggled as
active and will be executed in the order
presented.
No The program defined (if any) will not be executed.
Its setting will remain completely intact and is
useful for temporarily deactivating the scanning
program.
With a setting of Yes, WSCONFIG! checks the program to see
if it exists and has the correct .EXE/.COM extension. If it
fails any of these tests, the active status will immediately
be toggled to inactive (set to No) and a popup screen will
be displayed indicating the associated problem.
After correcting the program definition, you will need to
reset the active flag accordingly.
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Revised: 01/19/94 Page 26
WILDSCAN! v1.10 VIRUS SCANNER CONFIGURATION
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Program name:
This option allows you to specify the <drive:\directory> and
<filename> of the virus scanning program you want WILDSCAN!
to execute when it performs its virus scanning processes.
The execution of this program is ultimately controlled by
the Active: setting.
A typical definition might be:
C:\UTIL\SCAN.EXE
With a Active setting of Yes, WSCONFIG! checks the program
to see if it exists and has the correct .EXE/.COM extension.
If it fails any of these tests, the active status will
immediately be toggled to inactive (set to No) and a popup
screen will be displayed indicating the associated problem.
After correcting the program definition, you will need to
reset the active flag accordingly.
You should periodically check the program defined here to
ensure you're using the most current version of the virus
scanning software.
Command line parameters:
This option allows you to specify which command line
parameters should be used when the specified virus scanning
program is executed.
A typical definition might be:
/NOMEM /NOPAUSE /SUB /NOEXPIRE
Since these command line parameters are unique to each
vendors program and possibly between versions, you should
always refer to the appropriate documentation for specifics
on these settings.
If you incorrectly specify parameter(s) here, you run the
risk of WILDSCAN! falsely reporting failed virus scans and
ultimately flagging the file as bad.

WILDSCAN! v1.10 MESSAGE GENERATION CONFIGURATION
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
MESSAGE GENERATION CONFIGURATION
If so configured, WILDSCAN! will send special messages to the
uploader of the file(s) informing them of the status of the file
processing. Various different message may be sent and are
completely configurable by you.
WILDSCAN! makes use of a special feature of WILDCAT! whereby you
define a special import file (IMP) that contains the text of the
message you wish the caller to receive relative to the outcome of
the scanning process.
BUILT-IN EDITOR
WILDSCAN! comes with its own editor and default set of messages
that will be copied into the correct directory automatically
simply by selecting the appropriate IMP message and pressing
[ALT-E]. From there you can make whatever changes necessary and
save them accordingly.
For specifics on using the editor, please refer to the section on
the editors features.
CONFIGURATION OPTIONS
This screen is divided up into two basic sections. Configuration
parameters and the actual message configurations. Shown below is
description of the options for each of these sections.
Send message to caller about upload:
This option allows you to specify whether or not WILDSCAN!
should generate a message to the uploader of the file
indicating the status of the upload.
This setting also indicates whether or not WILDSCAN! should
send critical error messages to the SysOp of problems
encountered during the scanning phase.
If this option is set to Y, then the following fields are
made enterable:
"Thank you" message name
"Virus detected" message name
"Failed date check" message name
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

WILDSCAN! v1.10 MESSAGE GENERATION CONFIGURATION
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
"Failed GIF resolution" message name
"Failed duplicate check" message name
"Rejected/Bad file name"message name
whereby you can define the contents the respective "import
files" relative to their use.
If this option is set to N, no status messages will be
generated to the caller and thus the above message
definitions will not be available.
WILDCAT! conference for messages:
This option allows you to define the WILDCAT! conference
WILDSCAN! should use to place status messages to your
callers about the files they upload.
This conference should probably be set up as a private,
read-only conference reserved exclusively for use by
WILDSCAN! to place the status messages in.
Pressing [F2] on this field brings up a list of conferences
configured in WILDCAT!. In order for the list of
conferences to display properly, you must have previously
defined the WILDCAT! home directory path, otherwise nothing
will happen.
INDIVIDUAL MESSAGES
As mentioned above, you may define up to 6 different messages
that may be sent to the caller. Since they all function exactly
the same, the discussion here will be limited to just the "Thank
You" message, but the same configuration rules apply to all the
different messages as well.
'Thank you' message name:
This option allows you to specify the name of "import" file
that WILDSCAN! will use when generating the "Thank You"
message to your callers who upload files.
This field operates in two ways:
* If the field is blank, no message will be sent to the
uploader of the file.
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Revised: 01/19/94 Page 29
WILDSCAN! v1.10 MESSAGE GENERATION CONFIGURATION
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
* If the field contains a file name, then WILDSCAN! will
create a message in the defined WILDCAT! conference
where by the TO: field will contain the uploaders name
and the body of the message will contain the following:
<<WSTHANKS.IMP
(assuming you've defined the file name as WSTHANKS.IMP)
This line is a special feature of WILDCAT! whereby you
can specify a file name preceded by the << characters
on the first column of the message so when the caller
reads the message, they will see the actual contents of
the .IMP file and not the << characters.

WILDSCAN! v1.10 PRIMARY ARCHIVE PROCESSING
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
PRIMARY ARCHIVE PROCESSING
WILDSCAN! allows you to distinguish between primary archives and
embedded archives (these are archives inside of another archive).
For all intents and purposes, a primary archive is a file that
has been uploaded to your BBS. It is compressed in format and
contains at least one file when its uncompressed.
The ability to distinguish between primary and embedded archives
permits you to process them according to the configuration
parameters you define. This allows you an incredible amount of
flexibility and total control of the files WILDSCAN! processes.
This section covers all the parameters associated with primary
archive processing. It should be noted that due to some of the
configuration settings here, certain options may not be available
on the embedded archive side of processing. In all cases, these
differences will be discussed for the associated options.
Shown below is a discussion of the available configuration
options.
Default compression method:
This option allows you to specify the default compression
method which will be used when recompressing/converting
files from one format to another.
Tapping the [SPACEBAR] to toggles through the available
choices of:
ARC ARJ LZH PAK SQZ ZIP ZOO
The compression specification for these choices are defined
via the Main Menu option Packer/UnPacker Definitions.
Accurate configuration of these parameters is required for
proper operation.
Convert archive to default format:
WILDSCAN! gives you the ability to convert a file from a
given compression format such as ARJ to your selected
default format (possibly ZIP). This conversion process
involves a decompression using the files native
uncompression program and then a recompression step using
the default format compression program.
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Revised: 01/19/94 Page 31
WILDSCAN! v1.10 PRIMARY ARCHIVE PROCESSING
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
If this option is set to Y, WILDSCAN! will perform this
conversion process to the default format previously
selected. Any changes made to the file name (typically the
archive name/size) will be automatically updated in the
WILDCAT! files database.
If this option is set to N, no conversion will take place.
SPECIAL NOTE!
If BOTH this option is set to N AND the "Recompress archives
of the same format:" option is set to N, any options that
allow some form of conversion/deletion of file names,
recompression etc will be DISALLOWED! With both options set
to N, what you're saving here is that WILDSCAN! shouldn't
perform any kind of conversion/recompression on the archives
whatsoever.
By disallowed, we mean the associated option(s) that
ultimately require a recompression step will become
protected preventing you from entering any values in to
them. This is due in part that if the archive was to change
for whatever reason, in order to save any of those changes,
it would require a recompression of the entire archive.
In order for those "protected" options to become available
again, you will need to toggle either the:
Convert archive to default format:
or
Recompress archives of same format:
to Y. WILDSCAN! could then make changes to the files
contained within the archive and make the changes permanent
by recompressing the archive. The actual changes to the
files that take place will be dictated by the corresponding
option settings.
Recompress archives of same format:
WILDSCAN! offers you the ability to recompress an archive,
using the SAME compression formats compression program to
recompress the archive. This recompression is performed
after the archive contents have been completely
uncompressed.
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Revised: 01/19/94 Page 32
WILDSCAN! v1.10 PRIMARY ARCHIVE PROCESSING
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The benefit of doing this is you could use a higher level of
compression via command line parameters to make the
resultant archive smaller in size after WILDSCAN!
recompresses it.
Setting this option to Y instructs WILDSCAN! to perform the
recompression step while setting it to N disables the
recompression step.
SPECIAL NOTE!
If BOTH this option is set to N AND the "Convert archive to
default format:" option is set to N, any options that allow
some form of conversion/deletion of file names,
recompression etc will be DISALLOWED! With both options set
to N, what you're saving here is that WILDSCAN! shouldn't
perform any kind of conversion/recompression on the archives
whatsoever.
By disallowed, we mean the associated option(s) that
ultimately require a recompression step will become
protected preventing you from entering any values in to
them. This is due in part that if the archive was to change
for whatever reason, in order to save any of those changes,
it would require recompression of the entire archive.
Add short desc from SDI/DIZ to WC:
This option allows you to specify whether or not WILDSCAN!
should import the short description found in specially
created FILE_ID.DIZ or DESC.SDI files into the WILDCAT!
files database.
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Revised: 01/19/94 Page 33
WILDSCAN! v1.10 PRIMARY ARCHIVE PROCESSING
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
With this option set to Y, if the uploaded archive contains
a file by the name of FILE_ID.DIZ or DESC.SDI, WILDSCAN!
will read the contents of the file and overwrite the short
description which the caller entered with the information
read from this file.
If there are no DIZ or SDI files in the archive, then the
short description is not overwritten. If this option is set
to N, then WILDSCAN! ignores all DIZ and SDI files in the
archive and leaves the description entered by the uploader
intact.
Add long desc from SDI/DIZ to WC:
This option functions identically to the Import short
descriptions option with the exception being this option
allows you to specify whether or not WILDSCAN! should import
the "long" description found in specially created DIZ or SDI
files into the WILDCAT! files database.
With this option set to Y, if the uploaded archive contains
a file with either the DIZ or SDI extensions, WILDSCAN! will
read the contents of the file and overwrite the long
description entered by the caller (if they entered
something) with the information read from this file.
If there are no DIZ or SDI files in the archive, then the
long description is not overwritten. If this option is set
to N, then WILDSCAN! ignores all DIZ and SDI files in the
archive and leaves the description entered by the uploader
intact.
Remove file(s) from archive:
During the course of files being uploaded to other BBS's,
certain systems may add their advertisements to the archives
original contents. This option allows you to define whether
or not WILDSCAN! should look for these files and delete them
from the uploaded archive.
Setting this option to Y opens up the "File(s) to delete"
field whereby you can define the file names WILDSCAN! should
look for (which are these special advertisement files).
When WILDSCAN! processes files, it will search the files in
the uploaded archive for any matches to those contained
within the list of "bad names" and proceed to delete them.
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Revised: 01/19/94 Page 34
WILDSCAN! v1.10 PRIMARY ARCHIVE PROCESSING
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Although a database of "known" advertisement file names is
included with WILDSCAN!, you should be careful about which
file names you specify here. This is because with this
option enabled, WILDSCAN! will deliberately delete any files
found matching this list.
Setting this option to N instructs WILDSCAN! not to check
for these advertisement type files and no file deletion will
be performed.
File(s) to delete:
Presented here is a list of file names that WILDSCAN! will
search through and delete any matched files found in the
archive currently being processed.
Often times SysOps will place advertisement files within
each of the archives their system processes. This option
allows you to tell WILDSCAN! which file(s) it should
automatically remove.
You may insert, delete and edit file name definitions as
desired. You may also import a ASCII text file of
previously defined file names. Shown below is a description
of the available commands:
[INS] Pressing the [INSERT] key allows you to add file
names to the database. An entry screen is
displayed whereby you can enter the file name
along with its activation date.
[DEL] Positioning the highlight bar on the desired file
name and pressing the [DELETE] key brings up a
prompt confirming your request to delete the
current definition. Pressing Y deletes the
definition while pressing N (or [ESC]) aborts the
process and returns to the previous screen.
[ALT-F] Pressing and holding down the [ALT] key followed
by pressing the F key brings up a screen whereby
you may define the search string to locate a
specific file name. You may enter the exact name
or just a small portion of it followed by pressing
the [ENTER] key. If an exact match isn't found,
the highlight bar will be positioned on the
"closest match".

define the DOS path and file name of the ASCII
text file containing a list of files names you
wish to import into the database. The text file
must contain a single file name per line and lines
beginning with a ';' semicolon are ignored. Once
the name has been entered, pressing [F10]
initiates the importation process.
[ESC] Returns to the previous screen.
Information entered here is stored in a file called
WSDATA.DAT/IX which may be found in the \WS directory.
Insert file(s) into archive:
WILDSCAN! allows you the ability to automatically add
file(s) to any archives uploaded to your BBS. Normally
these files are usually BBS advertisements and such. This
option allows you to define whether or not WILDSCAN! should
add any file(s) to the uploaded archive.
Setting this option to Y opens up the "File(s) to add" field
whereby you can define the file names WILDSCAN! should add.
Setting this option to N informs WILDSCAN! not to add any
files to the archives.
File(s) to insert:
Presented here is a list of file names that WILDSCAN! will
add to the archive currently being processed. Certain times
it may be necessary to add file(s) to each of the archives
being processed. This option allows you to tell WILDSCAN!
which file(s) it should automatically add to the archive.
In order for these files to be located, all files defined
here MUST exist in the WILDSCAN! directory. This is the
same directory you specified with the SET WILDSCAN=
parameter.
You may insert, delete and edit file name definitions as
desired. You may also import a ASCII text file of
previously defined file names. Shown below is a description
of the available commands:

editor to find the file, it MUST exist in the
WILDSCAN! main directory.
The editor is only capable of handling small files
and will beep if the file is too large to edit. If
the latter is the case, you can always use the
[ALT-V] command to view the contents of the file.
[ALT-V] Displays the contents of the file allowing you to

WSDATA.DAT/IX which may be found in the \WS directory.
Add comment to archive:
Various different compression programs allow you to add
comments to the archives. This comment will be displayed
each time the archive is uncompressed. WILDSCAN! allows you
to add custom comments to the archives it processes to those
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

WILDSCAN! v1.10 PRIMARY ARCHIVE PROCESSING
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
compression methods that properly support them.
This option tells WILDSCAN! whether or not it should use the
contents of the comment file defined on the General
Information/DOS Path screen when adding a comment to the
primary archive.
Setting this option to Y adds the comment while setting it
to N disables the function for primary archives.
Primary archive here means the actual file name that was
uploaded to the BBS. Embedded archives are those which are
contained inside of a primary archive. To add comments to
embedded archives, you would use the appropriate option
found on the Embedded Archive Processing screen.
Archive date stamp method:
This option allows you to specify the mechanism by which
WILDSCAN! will manipulate the actual file date and possibly
the database values stored in WILDCAT!.
Tapping the [SPACEBAR] toggles through the available choices
and below is a description of each of the settings.
Current WILDSCAN! will use the actual date of the archive
as the date/time after recompression. Depending
on the "Update file date in WILDCAT!" setting,
this information will be used as necessary.
Oldest WILDSCAN! will search the archive for the oldest
file date and it will use that date to put on the
archive.
Newest WILDSCAN! will search the archive for the newest
file date and it will use that date to put on the
archive.
As mentioned above, depending on the "Update file date in
WILDCAT!" setting dictates whether the date of the archive
will be reflected in the WILDCAT! databases.
Conv self-extract file to default:
This option allows you to specify whether or not WILDSCAN!
should convert self-extracting files to the default
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Revised: 01/19/94 Page 38
WILDSCAN! v1.10 PRIMARY ARCHIVE PROCESSING
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
compression method selected.
Self-extracting files are defined as those which may be
executed directly from the DOS prompt (they normally have a
.EXE extension) and will uncompress themselves automatically
eliminating the need for an external uncompression program.
If this option is set to Y, then WILDSCAN! will convert all
self-extracting files to the "Default compression method"
selected. For example, if the archive uploaded is called
TESTS.EXE and it is a self-extracting archive, with a
"Default compression method" set to ZIP, WILDSCAN! will
convert TESTS.EXE to TESTS.ZIP.
With a setting of N, when WILDSCAN! encounters a self-
extracting file, it will be left in its native format.
SDN file processing method:
WILDSCAN! allows you several choices when processing SDN
type files. These files are compressed in a particular
format but have the file extensions changed to .SDN.
This option allows you to define how WILDSCAN! should handle
these files. Shown below is a description of the available
choices.
None This setting is fairly straightforward. The file
will be left completely intact after processing.
No conversion or renaming etc will take place.
Rename This option instructs WILDSCAN! to rename the
archive to its native format using the correct
extension. As previously mentioned, SDN files
come in compressed with the file extensions
renamed to .SDN. This option simply restores the
extension.
Convert This setting takes the archive and recompresses it
into the default format you previously selected
and uses the correct extension for the default
compression method selected.
With both the Rename and Convert options, since changes to
the file name takes place, WILDSCAN! automatically updates
the files database in WILDCAT! accordingly.

Revised: 01/19/94 Page 39
WILDSCAN! v1.10 EMBEDDED ARCHIVE PROCESSING
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
EMBEDDED ARCHIVE PROCESSING
As mentioned in the primary archive processing section, WILDSCAN!
allows you to differentiate the processing between primary
archives and embedded archives. For information purposes, and
embedded archive is defined as a compressed archive located
inside of another archive. Or in more simple terms, a compressed
file inside of another compressed file.
The ability to distinguish between primary and embedded archives
permits you to process them according to the configuration
parameters you define. This allows you an incredible amount of
flexibility and total control of the files WILDSCAN! processes.
This section covers all the parameters associated with embedded
archive processing. It should be noted that due to some of the
configuration settings on the primary archive processing, certain
options may not be available here.
Shown below is a description of the available options.
Convert archive to default format:
WILDSCAN! gives you the ability to convert an embedded
archive from a given compression format such as ARJ to your
selected default format (possibly ZIP). This conversion
process involves a decompression using the archives native
uncompression program and then a recompression step using
the default format compression program.
If this option is set to Y, WILDSCAN! will perform this
conversion process to the default format previously
selected. With this option is set to N, no conversion will
take place.
Recompress archives w/same format:
WILDSCAN! offers you the ability to recompress an embedded
archive (an archive within an archive), using the SAME
compression formats compression program to recompress the
embedded archive. This recompression is performed after the
archive contents have been completely uncompressed.
The benefit of doing this is you could use a higher level of
compression via command line parameters to make the
resultant archive smaller in size after WILDSCAN!
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Revised: 01/19/94 Page 40
WILDSCAN! v1.10 EMBEDDED ARCHIVE PROCESSING
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
recompresses it. Since this size would be smaller, your
overall archive size could be reduced at the same time.
Setting this option to Y instructs WILDSCAN! to perform the
recompression step while setting it to N disables the
recompression process all together.
Remove file(s) from archive:
During the course of files being uploaded to other BBS's,
certain systems may add their advertisements to the archives
original contents. This option allows you to define whether
or not WILDSCAN! should look for these types of files and
delete them from the embedded archive.
Setting this option to Y opens up the "File(s) to delete"
field whereby you can define the file names WILDSCAN! should
look for. When WILDSCAN! processes the embedded archives,
it will search the files in the archive for any matches to
those contained within the list of "bad names" and proceed
to delete them.
Although a database of "known" advertisement file names is
included with WILDSCAN!, you should be careful about which
file names you specify here. This is because with this
option enabled, WILDSCAN! will deliberately delete any files
found matching this list.
Setting this option to N instructs WILDSCAN! not to check
for files to delete and thus no action will be performed.
File(s) to delete:
Pressing [ENTER] on this field displays a database of file
names that WILDSCAN! will use when searching for files to
delete from the embedded archives contents.
For there you can add, delete, modify and import file names
that WILDSCAN! should look for. For specifics on this
database information, please refer to the Primary Archive
Processing option: "File(s) to delete:".
Insert file(s) into archive:
WILDSCAN! allows you the ability to automatically add

to define whether or not WILDSCAN! should add any file(s) to
the embedded archive.
Setting this option to Y opens up the "File(s) to add" field
whereby you can define the file names WILDSCAN! should add.
Setting this option to N informs WILDSCAN! not to add any
files to the embedded archives.
File(s) to insert:
Pressing [ENTER] on this field displays a database of file
names that WILDSCAN! will add to the embedded archives
contents.
For there you can add, delete, modify file names that
WILDSCAN! should add to the archive. For specifics on this
database information, please refer to the Primary Archive
Processing option: "File(s) to insert:".
It should be noted that all the files defined here should
exist in the main WILDSCAN! directory.
Add comment to archive:
Various different compression programs allow you to add
comments to the archives. This comment will be displayed
each time the archive is uncompressed. WILDSCAN! allows you
to add custom comments to the archives it processes to those
compression methods that properly support them.
This option tells WILDSCAN! whether or not it should use the
contents of the comment file defined on the General
Information/DOS Path screen when adding a comment to the
embedded archive.
Setting this option to Y adds the comment while setting it
to N disables the function for embedded archives.
Archive date stamp method:
This option allows you to specify the mechanism by which
WILDSCAN! will manipulate the actual file date of the
embedded archive.

WILDSCAN! v1.10 EMBEDDED ARCHIVE PROCESSING
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Tapping the [SPACEBAR] toggles through the available choices
and shown below is a description of each of the settings.
Current This setting will read the original date/time of
the archive and use this value after the
recompression process.
Oldest WILDSCAN! will search the archive for the oldest
file date and will set the date/time of the
embedded archive to that date.
Newest WILDSCAN! will search the archive for the newest
file date and will set the date/time of the
embedded archive to that date.
It should be pointed out here that since this processing is
unique to embedded archives (archives within an archive), no
updating will be done to the WILDCAT! databases. Only
primary archives allow this ability.
Conv self-extract file to default:
This option allows you to specify whether or not WILDSCAN!
should convert self-extracting files found in embedded
archives to the default compression method selected.
Self-extracting files are defined as those which may be
executed directly from the DOS prompt (they normally have a
.EXE extension) and will uncompress themselves automatically
eliminating the need for an external uncompression program.
If this option is set to Y, then WILDSCAN! will convert all
self-extracting files found in embedded archives to the
"Default compression method" selected. For example, if the
embedded archive contains a self-extracting file called
TESTS.EXE, with a "Default compression method" set to ZIP,
WILDSCAN! will convert TESTS.EXE to TESTS.ZIP.
With a setting of N, when WILDSCAN! encounters an embedded
self-extracting file, it will be left in its native format.

WILDSCAN! v1.10 PACKER/UNPACKER DEFINITIONS
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
PACKER/UNPACKER DEFINITIONS
This section allows you to specify all the packer and unpacker
definitions. WILDSCAN! will need to have all of these defined if
you want to support conversion from one format of archive to
another.
During the course of WILDSCAN!'s execution, it reads the first
few bytes of the archive to determine its format. Once the
determination has been made, the appropriate uncompression
program is executed with the associated command line parameters.
Of the seven available compression methods supported, they all
share a common configuration/setup mechanism. Since they share
this commonality, only the definitions of the common fields will
be discussed here.
ARJ UnCompressor Name/Path:
This option allows you to specify the actual DOS program
name you want WILDSCAN! to use for the uncompressing
process. In this example, the definition is in ARC format,
but the same applies to all others as well.
A typical definition might be:
C:\UTIL\ARJ.EXE
When entering the file name, be sure and include the
extension. File names ending with anything other than .EXE
or .COM are not allowed and normal DOS naming conventions
are required.
Command Line:
This field is used to specify the command line parameters to
be used with the selected uncompression utility. Typically
the parameters are separated by a space but must strictly
follow the requirements of the uncompression program being
used.
Compressor Name/Path:
This option allows you to specify the <drive:\directory> and

When specifying the actual file name, be sure to include the
extension. File names ending with anything other than .EXE
or .COM are not allowed and normal DOS naming conventions
must be adhered to.
Command Line:
This field is used to specify the command line parameters to
be used with the selected compression utility. Typically
the parameters are separated by a space but must strictly
follow the requirements of the compression program being
used.
A typical definition might be:
a -r -jm
As previously mentioned, these parameters are specific to
ARJ, but you should specify the appropriate command line
parameters for each of the associated compression programs.
Comment Command Line:
This field is used to specify the command line parameters to
be used with the selected utility to support adding comments
to the archive. Typically the parameters are separated by a
space but must strictly follow the requirements of the
compression program being used.
COMMAND LINE PARAMETERS
The last option uses very specific command line parameters which
are unique to each compression format supported. At the end of
this documentation is an appendix with very basic information
concerning each of the supported compression formats.
This is in no way meant to replace the actual documentation which

WILDSCAN! v1.10 GRAPHIC FILE PROCESSING
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
GRAPHIC FILE PROCESSING
WILDSCAN! allows you an incredible amount of flexibility in
processing graphic files such as GIF and JPG. You can convert
them from one format to another, compress them, test the
integrity of them and determine the resolution and import that
information in the WILDCAT! database.
This section covers all the available options for processing
graphic files. Shown below id a description of each of those
options.
Update file date in WILDCAT!:
This option allows you to define whether or not WILDSCAN!
should update the file date information within WILDCAT! to
match the date of the actual file.
Setting this option to Y means WILDSCAN! will read the date
on the file and make sure the WILDCAT! database reflects the
same date. A special note, if the uploaded file was dated
before the current date, it will not appear in the [N]ew
files listing.
Setting this option to N instructs WILDSCAN! to use the date
of the upload as the date on the file. So regardless of the
actual file date, the file will appear in the [N]ew files
listing within WILDCAT!.
Add GIF resolution to description:
This option allows you to specify whether or not WILDSCAN!
should add the resolution of the GIF file being processed to
the short description line in the WILDCAT! database.
When WILDSCAN! adds the resolution, the following sample
format is used:
640x480x256
where 640 = Width, 480 = Height and 256 = Colors
Tapping the [SPACEBAR] toggles through the available choices
as shown below:
None Selecting this option instructs WILDSCAN! to not
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Revised: 01/19/94 Page 47
WILDSCAN! v1.10 GRAPHIC FILE PROCESSING

add the resolution to the short description.
Right Using this setting, WILDSCAN! will add the
resolution to the right hand side of the short
description. Two methods of handling are used.
If the description line is full, the required
space for the resolution is overwritten. If the
description is only partially used, the line will
be padded accordingly.
Left Using this setting, WILDSCAN! will automatically
insert the resolution at the beginning of the
short description.
Each time WILDSCAN! processes a GIF file, it automatically
reads the resolution so using this option adds meaningful
information often left out by the uploader.
GIF conversion method:
WILDSCAN! offers you the ability to process GIF files in a
variety of different ways. This option allows you to select
the processing method (if any) WILDSCAN! should use.
The graphic program(s) used during this phase of file
processing are defined on the Graphic Program Definitions
screen. When executing these programs, WILDSCAN! will swap
itself out of memory and then execute the appropriate
program(s). Once the process is complete, WILDSCAN! will
resume processing by swapping itself back into memory.

None No processing/conversion is performed.
Depending on which option is selected here, WSCONFIG! will
toggle the appropriate program(s) as active and requires
that the DOS program name and path are properly defined.
Any graphic program definitions (found on the Graphic
Program Definitions screen) that display as inactive won't
require an accurate program name/path definition.
For specifics on what each one of the programs such as
GIFTEST, GIFLITE etc do, please refer to the appropriate
authors documentation.
JPG conversion method:
WILDSCAN! offers you the ability to process JPG files in a
variety of different ways. This option allows you to select
the processing method (if any) WILDSCAN! should use.
The graphic program(s) used during this phase of file
processing are defined on the Graphic Program Definitions

WILDSCAN! v1.10 GRAPHIC FILE PROCESSING
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Process graphic files offline:
This option allows you to specify whether or not WILDSCAN!
should recompress the uploaded GIF/JPG files while the
caller is online.
Setting this option to Y instructs WILDSCAN! to add the
uploaded file along with its complete <drive:\directory>
path information to the file you specify as your:
Post process file name and path: C:\WS\WSPOST.LST
Setting this option to Y will save time for your caller as
they won't have to wait while WILDSCAN! recompresses the
newly uploaded file(s). This recompression set can be
performed later by executing WILDSCAN! with the POSTPROCESS
command line parameter similar to:
WS POSTPROCESS
When WILDSCAN! is executed in this fashion, recompression of
the files (new uploads) contained within the WSPOST.LST file
(post processing file) will be performed. Typically, you
would do this from an event during regularly scheduled
maintenance.
If this option is set to N, WILDSCAN! will process the
file(s) using the appropriate method while the caller waits
online. If the file is large and your PC is relatively
slow, this could take a few minutes. If it takes too long,
the caller make think the system has frozen on them and hang
up.
Duplicate checking on graphic files:
This option allows you to specify whether or not you wish to
have WILDSCAN! check the uploaded graphic file (GIF/JPG) to
see if it has been previously uploaded to your BBS under a
different name.
This option works in harmony with WILDCAT!'s duplicate
checking where by WILDCAT! will check for duplicate "file
names" and WILDSCAN! will perform a calculation of the
actual file to see if it matches other files uploaded to
your BBS under a different name.
A special database maintained by WILDSCAN! stores special
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Revised: 01/19/94 Page 50
WILDSCAN! v1.10 GRAPHIC FILE PROCESSING
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
calculation values on each file it processes. When a new
file is uploaded, its contents are calculated and then
checked to see if they match any in the database. If no
match is found, its calculated value is added to the
duplicates database and processing continues normally.
Setting this option to N disables duplicate checking for
graphic files and relies on WILDCAT!'s file name checking
for duplicate processing.
File rejection method:
This option allows you to dictate what course of action
WILDSCAN! should take when one of the GIF/JPG file(s)
uploaded fail either the virus scan, duplicate or resolution
checks it makes.
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Revised: 01/19/94 Page 51
WILDSCAN! v1.10 GRAPHIC FILE PROCESSING
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
defined by you. This gives you the ability to take a
closer look at the file at a more convenient time.
NOTE: In all cases of a failed file by WILDSCAN!, a
special semaphore file called SCANFILE.BAD will be
created in the nodes work directory and WILDCAT!
interpret this as a failed file and proceed to
flag the file as bad and disallow any upload time
credits to the caller.
WC file area to move rejected files:
This option allows you to select which file area in WILDCAT!
WILDSCAN! should move a GIF/JPG file to which has been
rejected. Normally you would reserve a specific file area
where only you as the SysOp would have access to. This
prevents accidental downloading of the file before it can be
more thoroughly checked.
Maximum date of files to reject:
The setting here is used in conjunction with the "File
rejection method" whereby the date specified here will be
considered the oldest acceptable date before rejecting a
file. In otherwords, if the file is dated later than the
date specified here, it will be rejected.
The date format is:
mm/dd/yy
where mm = Month, dd = Day, yy = Year
The file(s) ultimate disposition is controlled by the "File
rejection method" option setting.

Minimum resolution of GIF's to accept:
WILDSCAN! allows you to specify the minimum acceptable
resolution of GIF files that WILDSCAN! will allow before
failing the file. Minimum resolution is determined by the
values contained in the three corresponding fields in the
following format:
Width x Height x Colors
If you were to configure WILDSCAN! to only accept GIF files
with a resolution of 640 x 480 x 256 or higher, then you
must specify the values in the following format:
640 x 480 x 256
If you wish to disable resolution checking all together,
simply specify 0's in all three fields similar to:
0 x 0 x 0
Pressing [ENTER] on this field moves you to the next field
specification.

WILDSCAN! v1.10 EMBEDDED GRAPHIC FILE PROCESSING
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
EMBEDDED GRAPHIC FILE PROCESSING
Embedded graphic files are graphic files contained within an
archive. They may be in the primary archive or even in the
embedded archives themselves. Since they are not in native
format (because they must be uncompressed before they are usable)
WILDSCAN! considers them as embedded graphic files.
Because these files are considered embedded, a large number of
the processing options has been reduced. Currently you may
perform the usual conversion compression and so on as well as
duplicate checking. Shown below is a description of the
available options.
GIF conversion method:
WILDSCAN! offers you the ability to process embedded GIF
files in a variety of different ways. This option allows
you to select the processing method (if any) WILDSCAN!
should use.
The graphic program(s) used during this phase of file
processing are defined on the Graphic Program Definitions
screen. When executing these programs, WILDSCAN! will swap

Duplicate checking on graphic files:
This option allows you to specify whether or not you wish to
have WILDSCAN! check the embedded graphic file (GIF/JPG) to
see if it has been previously uploaded to your BBS under a
different name.
A special database maintained by WILDSCAN! stores special
calculation values on each file it processes. When a new
file is uploaded, its contents are calculated and then
checked to see if they match any in the database. If no
match is found, its calculated value is added to the
duplicates database and processing continues normally.
Setting this option to N disables duplicate checking for
embedded graphic files.

WILDSCAN! v1.10 GRAPHIC PROGRAM DEFINITIONS
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
GRAPHIC PROGRAM DEFINITIONS
WILDSCAN! provides you with a wide array of graphic file
processing mechanisms whereby you define a certain program along
with its appropriate command line parameters and WILDSCAN! will
swap itself out of memory and execute that program. Once the
processing is complete, WILDSCAN! swaps itself back into memory
and continues processing the file.
This section allows you specify what program along with its
appropriate command line parameters should be used with each of
the possible processing methods allowed.
Currently there are four possible methods WILDSCAN! can execute
and are described as such:
GIFTEST This process normally would be used for
testing the integrity of the GIF file.
GIFLITE This process would be used to compress a GIF
file.
GIF2JPG Normally you would define a conversion
program that would convert GIF files into JPG
format.
JPG2GIF As with the GIF2JPG, this option allows you
to define the program to convert a JPG file
to a GIF.
Since all of the definitions share the same configuration
mechanisms, each field will reference the GIFTEST setting, but
note that this is for example only. Each method MUST have its
respective program defined. Having said that, read on.
ACTIVE STATUS
The active status associated with various programs indicates that
you have previously selected that operation to be performed.
Because this program will be needed when WILDSCAN! runs, a check
is made to see if the program exists. If it doesn't you will be
so informed.
If the active status is No, then no checking will be done on the
program file and it will not be required for proper execution.

WILDSCAN! v1.10 GRAPHIC PROGRAM DEFINITIONS
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
DOS Path/Program:
WILDSCAN! allows you the ability to process uploaded graphic
files in a variety of different ways. The appropriate
action of this processing involves configuring the external
DOS programs that WILDSCAN! will execute relative to this
process.
This option is used to the define the complete DOS Path and
file name of the program to use when "testing" the integrity
of the uploaded GIF file.
A typical definition might be:
C:\UTIL\GIFTEST.EXE
If the defined program has not been "selected" for
processing, its Active status will indicate No, otherwise it
will be set to Yes.
Any programs that have been toggled to Active will require
that the correct DOS path is valid and the program to
execute actually exists in that directory. For specifics on
each of the external programs features and capabilities, you
should refer to the appropriate authors documentation.
Command line:
This option allows you to specify the command line
parameters that should be used with the defined GIFTEST
program. By command line, we mean parameters which dictate
the operation of the actual program. This information is
added to the same line as GIFTEST will be executed from.
Since the settings defined here are unique to each programs
execution, you should refer to the appropriate authors
documentation for the correct parameters to use.

WILDSCAN! v1.10 RIP SCREEN CONFIGURATION
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
RIP SCREEN CONFIGURATION
WILDSCAN! allows you to use either the default RIP screen that
comes with the program or create your own completely customizable
RIP screen for your callers enjoyment. WILDSCAN! splits up the
processing into 2 main sections. The main display or back drop
file and the associated prompts.
While the main display (back drop) file is relatively straight
forward, the prompts processing refers to the information that
WILDSCAN! will send to the caller relative to its current
progress of the upload processing.
These prompts use special @Code macros which contain the
respective prompts "supplied" information such as file name, file
date etc. You would normally enter in what ever RIP commands
first followed by the use of the associated @Code.
MAIN DISPLAY FILE
WILDSCAN! allows you to display completely customizable RIP
screens to your callers regarding the status of the file scanning
process. You may define and even edit both the RIP main screen
as well as the associated prompts. Shown below is a description
of the main display file.
Main display file: N:\SOURCE\WS\WILDSCAN.RIP
This option allows you to define the complete DOS path and
file name of the main RIP screen you want WILDSCAN! to send
to your callers. This screen could be considered the main
"back drop" for where the prompts will be displayed.
A typical definition might be:
C:\WS\WILDSCAN.RIP
As mentioned above, you may edit and/or view the contents of
this file. Pressing [ALT-E] on the file name brings up the
file in edit mode. The editor is only capable of handling
small files and will beep if the file is too large to edit.
If the latter is the case, you can always use the [ALT-V]
command to view the contents of the file.
The main file is defined here as an external file to allow
you to use programs better suited for editing just as

screen has been created, you simply move the file into the
correct directory and specify the corresponding name.
RIP DISPLAY PROMPTS
With WILDSCAN! you have the ability to create a custom RIP screen
and the associated prompts that go with it. This option is used
to select the desired prompt by positioning the cursor on the
desired prompt and pressing [ENTER] bringing up the associated
prompt in edit mode.
The contents of the various prompts are stored in a file called
WSRIP.DAT located in the main WILDSCAN! directory. The prompts
are only editable via WSCONFIG! and not an external editor. (the
key word here is editable)
If you'd like to use an external program to create the prompts
with, you can do so and then by bringing up the associated prompt
in WSCONFIG!, you could simply use the import option via the
[ALT-I] keys. This function allows you to import the contents of
an external file into the existing prompt and from there you can
make any necessary editing changes. Presently there are no
facilities for exporting prompts.
ASSOCIATED RIP MACROS
Shown below is the special @Code macro used by WILDSCAN! to
display the appropriate information. Only the associated code
will work with the proper prompt and you may only define the
macro once within the prompt text.
Shown below are the available macros.

WILDSCAN! v1.10 GENERATE MASTER LIST
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
GENERATE MASTER LIST
WILDSCAN! offers you the ability to process file names contained
within a special ASCII text file. This text file is defined via
the:
Post process file name and path:
definition found on the General Information/DOS Path screen. The
contents of this file is a complete DOS path and file name on a
one file per line basis.
WILDSCAN! can then be executed with the POSTPROCESS command line
parameter similar to below:
WS POSTPROCESS
and will then read this file, line by line and process the
appropriate file according to the configuration.
This option allows you to select which file areas in WILDCAT!
that WSCONFIG! should automatically append to the post processing
file.
The process here is quite simple. Positioning the highlight bar
on the desired file area in WILDCAT! and tapping the [SPACEBAR]
places a selection dot next to the file area while tapping the
[SPACEBAR] a second time deselects it.
Once the desired areas have been selected, pressing the [F10] key
initiates the generation process. If the path to the post
processing file is invalid, you will not be allowed to generate
the file until the errors have been corrected.
If the post processing file already contained file names,
WILDSCAN! will simply append the files names to the bottom of the
file otherwise it will recreate the file.

^E or Up Arrow = Cursor up
^X or Dn Arrow = Cursor down
^S or L-Arrow = Cursor left
^D or R-Arrow = Cursor right
^C or Page Down = Page down
^I or TAB = 5 spaces over
^J or n/a = Join lines
^L or n/a = Re-draw screen
^M or Enter = New line
^N or n/a = Split line
^V or Ins = Toggle Ins mode
^W or Home = Goto begin of line
^P or End = Goto end of line
^A or ^ L-Arrow = Cursor word left
^F or ^ R-Arrow = Cursor word right
^R or Page Up = Page up
^B or n/a = Reformat paragraph
^Y or n/a = Delete the line
^T or n/a = Delete word right
^G or Del = Delete character
^K or ^ End = Del to end of line
NOTE: ^N = Hold down CTRL & press N
n/a = No equivalent single key
The editor supports the fundamental WordStar type commands. These
typically involve holding down the control key and then pressing
the corresponding letter for the desired effect. For example, to
reformat the paragraph the cursor is in, holding down the [CTRL]
key while pressing the letter B will reformat the text within the
paragraph.
When editing, usually there is an alternate keystroke that can
perform the same function. In the previously listed table of
commands, the other possible combination is displayed to the
right of its control key counterpart. To save the editing
changes, simply press [F10] or by pressing [ESC], you can abort
and return to the previous screen.

WILDSCAN! v1.10 TROUBLESHOOTING
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
TROUBLESHOOTING
This section will try to address the most common problems
encountered when running WILDSCAN!. Because of the diversity of
configurations, it's difficult to be precise, but we'll attempt
to cover as much as possible.
COMMON QUESTIONS/PROBLEMS
Question: I get the message "Unable to locate COMSPEC
environment variable". Why?
Answer: When WILDSCAN! starts up it looks for the SET
COMSPEC= environment variable. Normally DOS will
set this, and the way to check this is to type the
word SET and hit [ENTER] when you are at the DOS
prompt. If you do not see the SET COMSPEC line,
then in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file, put the following
line in:
SET COMSPEC=C:\DOS\COMMAND.COM
The C:\DOS\COMMAND.COM is the full path and file
name where the COMMAND.COM is located. This must
be valid, otherwise WILDSCAN! will have trouble
shelling out to the archivers.
Question: I get the message "Failed to initialize raw
windows". Why?
Answer: Make sure that you have enough memory to run
WILDSCAN!. WILDSCAN! needs about 285k of memory
to run in.
Question: I get the message "Error reading WSCONFIG.DAT" or
"* Error * WSCONFIG.DAT does NOT exist in the
current directory!!". Why?
Answer: You need to make sure that you have put the SET
WILDSCAN= environment variable in your
AUTOEXEC.BAT file, or that you are running
WILDSCAN from the \WS directory. The \WS
directory is the name of the subdirectory you
created in the FIRST TIME INSTALLATION section
described at the beginning of the manual.

30 DAY EVALUATION COPY
WILDSCAN! is a fully functional, full featured upload file
processor for WILDCAT! v3.xx. This program is not disabled in
any way but does require the use of a special 30 day evaluation
key. This key is obtainable by dialing the WILDSCAN! support BBS
at the number listed above.
This temporary key will allow WILDSCAN! to run for 30 DAYS
without registration, after which, the program will simply cease
to run. This should be sufficient time to properly evaluate the
program for fitness prior to its actual registration.

WILDSCAN! v1.10 TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
Because of the complex nature of processing uploaded files, this
section has been devoted to the requirements and assumptions that
WILDSCAN! v1.10 operates under.
Memory Requirements
WILDSCAN! requires approximately 285K of BASE 640K memory.
It also will use XMS or EMS memory if it's found. For
swapping into XMS/EMS, approximately 320K is required
otherwise swapping will occur to disk.
Errorlevels Returned on Exit
When WILDSCAN! exits for whatever reason, it will return a
DOS errorlevel specific to the reason it exited to DOS.
These values can be trapped by your batch file if so
desired. Shown below are the available errorlevel values.
0 Normal exit, no errors
1 Error detected
