As some of you may know, I am the developer of the UpLoadProcessor (called ULP
for short) utilities for PCBoard 14.5+ that are currently under development.
Within the next month or so, I hope to have the first production release of ULP
ready for widespread use (although you are welcome to test it out now, even
though the feature set is not complete).
ULP will be including a BBS ad removal feature based on CRC-32 calculation of
the file contents. In this fashion, ULP can detect a known ad file despite the
file name and date. However, I need some help in compiling the ad database, as
I've only come across a couple on my BBS.
Rather than make the unreasonable request of asking people to upload every ad
they find to my BBS, I have a written a small program to calculate the CRC-32
and display it in both hex and decimal format. Any sysop who finds an ad can
use this program to compute the CRC and include it in a message to me; in
this message please include the filename, CRC-32 and file size. I can be
contacted through the following means:
∙ Fidonet Netmail addressed to Stacy Smith, node 1:276/112
∙ Intelec Shareware conference
∙ Intelec PCBoard conference
∙ Salt Air (CDC would probably prefer the Sysop Chatter conference)
∙ The ULP Support conference on my BBS (the Bloom Beacon-Picayune BBS
at 804-525-9760 in Forest, Virginia)
The command-line for the ULPCRC.EXE program is simply:
ULPCRC bbsad.ext
where 'bbsad.ext' is the full path and filename for the BBS ad file to be
computed.
I greatly appreciate any ads you can help me identify and include in the
ULP system!
