PsychoNet is a small network local to the Tampa (813) area. PsychoNet is at present a WWIV based network, which means the WWIV networking software (NET35 or newer) is required. PsychoNet was developed by Fatal Darkness. It was created on the basis of freedom of speech, and is aimed toward mature users. PsychoNet is not, however, an 'Elite'** network. This does not mean that topics that are 'Elite' in nature are discouraged. What all of this simply means is this: There is no form of censorship on any PsychoNet native sub. The only exception to this will be under explicit conditions such as gated subs. This means that users may proceed to cuss and use any form of language they deem appropriate, within reason, to properly express the subject matter of their posts. Unneccessary or excessive flaming of users will not be tolerated, however. PsychoNet was founded as a reaction toward the ideals of 'Family Values' which are being enforced upon other networks, and may be considered a refuge from these forms of censorship. For this reason, PsychoNet is intended for mature audiences only. If you feel that your users would be unable to handle a network of this nature, or may find themselves easily offended by the possible content of this network, then PsychoNet is NOT for your system. There is no central theme to PsychoNet. All topics are welcomed for message subs, and adding message subs to the network is encouraged. There are very few rules for PsychoNet subs, except where otherwise noted. ** We define 'elite' as the promotion and/or association of any of various illegal computer-related activity such as software- piracy and/or hacking, or the affiliation thereof to any of various counterculture or art groups; i.e. hacking, ANSI, anarchy, 'warez' groups, etc. ──══//═══─── Requesting a PsychoNet node ───══//═══── Requesting to become a PsychoNet node is easy. You only need to meet the node requirements (listed in the next section) and return a completed PsychoNet application (either via the questions at the end of this document, or by using the PsychoNet application generator) to Fatal Darkness. Return completed applications via E-mail to Fatal Darkness on the PsychoNet home BBS, The Infernal Diatribe (813) 662-0963. ──══//═══─── Node Requirements ───══//═══── o Applying BBSes must be running either WWIV version 4.xx with NET34 or newer, or a BBS software capable of importing and exporting mail with WWIV based networks. o Applying BBSes should be solid and stable BBSes. The BBS should operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The BBS must be in operation for a period of at least one month (30 days) prior to applying. o Registration of the WWIV BBS software and/or WWIV networking software is NOT required for participation in PsychoNet. o The application should be filled out thoroughly and truthfully. o All subs designated as required must be subscribed to. o Because PsychoNet is intended for mature users and sysops, applying sysops are required to be at least sixteen (16) years of age. Sysops must be eighteen years of age before being allowed to subscribe to any adult-oriented subs. Proof of age may be required upon request. o Completed applications should be sent to the area coordinator for your area code. If your area code has no AC, then it should be sent to the network coordinator, Fatal Darkness. All information on this form must be accurate. False information is grounds for immediate and permanent removal from the network. o It is recommended for BBSes to be open to the public, though this is not required. However, all applying nodes are subject to verification by Fatal Darkness.
