HELP WITH WAFLINEMAIL v1.00r
or
[ Suggestions for Enhanced Enjoyment ]
o Create a JOIN.WM file in your personal directory that contains a
list of newsgroups that WaflineMail will collect for donwnloading.
Exclude newsgroups that routinely have LARGE messages in them! Most
notably, alt.sources, comp.binaries, etc. are better when read
through Waffle.
o At every prompt there is a DEFAULT command. For example, the main
menu reads "Selection [D,t,r,u,k,q,h] ->". What that means is that
if you press ENTER, WaflineMail assumes you want the "D" selection.
In all cases, the capitalized command is the default selection.
o During the scan, you may press Ctrl-K to abort back to Waffle.
FURTHER HELP WITH WAFLINEMAIL v1.00b
or
[ What do these crazy sounding menu choices really *do*, anyway? ]
[D]ownload QWK Mail
You may select this option by either pressing the 'D' key, or by
hitting the ENTER key. Either way you're telling WaflineMail to
begin gathering up your mail into a QWK format archive. This QWK
format archive is readable by several offline mail reader programs,
including SLMR, Deluxe2, and RoseReader, and is the same format used
by mail doors such as Tomcat!, Qmail, and RoseMail.
WaflineMail will then check your user directory for Email, and pack
it up if any exists. After a successful transfer, WaflineMail will
delete all the Email that it packed up. WaflineMail will then move
on to the newsgroups, packing up all messages it finds, until it
either gets all new messages, or you reach your limit.
After gathering up all your mail into the QWK archive, you'll be
asked if your sure you want to download it, and, if so, if you want
to hang up after the transfer is complete. Select 'Y' to download
and then return to Waffle, 'N' to quit immediately to Waffle, or 'H'
to hang up after the transfer is complete.
[T]ext Download
This is very similar to the QWK download option, except that, once
unarchived, this is a straight ASCII text file, viewable by
virtually anything.
[R]news Download
This is exactly the same as text download, except that the ASCII
file produced can be imported into a Waffle message base by typing:
RNEWS > FileName.Ext
This will import the messages into the Waffle message base. See the
Waffle documentation for further details.
Also, such packets may be read by READMAIL 3.1 (Jeroen Schipper) by
using the following values for the header definition (F8):
New header : #! rnews *
Subject : Subject:
Sender : From:
Date : Date:
Lines # : 0
[U]pload Replies
This is where you send your reply packets (either .REP or .TXT
files). REP packets are generated by one of the above mentioned
offline readers. Normally, messages are imported into newsgroups.
However, you can send private email by making the message private,
and putting it into the "Email Messages" area. The first line of the
message contains the name of the recipiant (in the standard form),
preceded by "To". For example, "To: validor@cybrelf.halcyon.com".
You can have as many recipiants as you want, seperated by a space.
WaflineMail stops when it encounters a new line, however.
TXT files require you to do a bit more work. They are standard ASCII
text files that contain the message to be imported by WaflineMail
(WaflineMail can only handle one message per file, by the way). They
ARE NOT compressed! You must add "Newsgroups:" and "Subject:"
headers yourself - WaflineMail won't add them for you. For example,
a message might look like this:
Newsgroups: alt.bbs Subject: Test Message
This is a test message!
In which case WaflineMail would put the message in the alt.bbs
newsgroup with the Subject "Test Message". Make sure there is a
blank line after the "Subject:"!
If you wish to upload Email messages by a normal TXT file, then the
first line must contain the name of the recipiant, preceded by
"To:", as above.
WaflineMail will prompt you to upload the packet at the appropriate
time. If you uploaded a TXT file, WaflineMail will ask if it's an
Email message. If it is, answer "Y", but if it's destined for a
newsgroup, answer "N".
Note that, currently, WaflineMail doesn't support any offline
configuration messages. (For example, add and drop conferences
commands don't work.) This will possibly be added in the future.
[K]ill Email After Download (Do/Don't)
By default, WaflineMail WILL NOT delete your Email after a
successful download. It's up to you to do this via Waffle. However,
if you select this option, WaflineMail WILL delete your Email after a
successful transfer. The state of this option is on the top line
that reads "Deleting: ".
[H]elp
If you don't know what this does, then you need more help than I can
give you...
[Q]uit to Waffle
This quits immediately back to Waffle.
