│ Silver Xpress Off-Line Mail/Fax/Forms System Version 5.01 │
│ (c) copyright 1988-1994 by Santronics Software │
└──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
Welcome to the Silver Xpress Mail System Version 5.01!
Silver Xpress is a powerful, 7-year old, off-line mail system available
for the growing BBS industry. Simply put, there is really nothing like
Silver Xpress in the BBS world.
The Silver Xpress Off-Line Mail System has been the basis for many of
the features and functionality found in other off-line systems, and
Version 5.0x continues to set the standard with new technology and
features! See the features.lst to get a glance of what we have done to
define the off-line mail market.
The main new features in Version 5.0x are enhanced support for QWK,
RIP Support, Batch Downloading of Vacation Packets, an incredible, high
efficiency internal protocol, and the ability to search the body of text
for mail.

│INSTALLATION: FOR MANUAL INSTALLATION, SEE INSTALL.DOC │
└──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┘
!!!!!!! NOTE: THE INSTALL PROGRAM REQUIRES PKUNZIP.EXE V2.04G !!!!!!!!!!
To install Silver Xpress, type INSTALL.EXE at the DOS prompt.
If you are going to upgrade the new version on top of a previous
version, you should backup your BULL\*.*, *.KEY and *.CTL files. The
install program will put them in a directory called PRE500XP just in
case.
If you wish to manually install or read about "Upgrade Considerations,"
read the INSTALL.DOC file. The INSTALL.EXE process will handle the
upgrade.
Even though it may seem very technical and detailed, installing Silver
Xpress is quite simple. If you have a printer, we recommend you print
out the CHECKOFF.LST file. This file contains a list of things that you
should consider when installing and configuring Silver Xpress.
After the install process is completed, all you need to do is the
following:
1. Check XPRESS.BAT and copy it over to your BBS directory. This is
your DOOR batch file for Xpress. Edit it and make the appropriate
changes to call this batch file from your BBS.
Sample batch files (utilities and menus for your BBS) are provided in
BBSTOOLS.ZIP file.
NOTE: PCBOARD sysops do not need to do this. The XPRESS file should
remain in the Xpress directory. The install program will
automatically correct the directory in XPRESS and add the XPRESS
entry into the DOORS.LST file.
2. Silver Xpress requires external utilities such as PKZIP, LHARC or
others to compress mail. They must be callable from Xpress. Make
sure they can be located by putting them in a PATH directory. You
can copy them to the Xpress directory if you wish.
That's it! Except for RBBS and PCBOARD, you can type XPMAIL -J to run
Xpress in local mode to test it out. (-J will retrieve the FIRST user
from the BBS user database file).
We designed Xpress for simple installation. RBBS will require some
extra time, but you should NEVER spend more than 1 hour installing
Silver Xpress. If you get stuck somewhere, call our technical support
voice line.
When you are finished, and want to get fancy, read the XPMAIL.DOC
documentation available in SX500DOC.ZIP. Other documents available for
quick reading are:
FEATURES.LST : Summarizes all the major features in version 5.01
WHATSNEW.501 : Summarizes all the major changes since last version
ADDENDUM.DOC : Last minute changes to version 5.01

│SUPPORT│
└───────┘
Support Silver Xpress and we will, in kind, be able to offer quality
support. Support for this package is available several ways:
1) SUPPORT VIA ELECTRONIC MAIL
COMPUSERVE SECTION: Santronics Software (OPENING MARCH 1, 1994)
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Santronics Software has a section on CompuServ to help support
Silver Xpress around the World.
Type GO PCVENJ to enter the Santronics Software Section.
Non CIS customers who wish to join the exciting CIS, can get a
$15.00 credit towards on-line time when you purchase Silver Xpress.
NOTE: The section will be open, hopefully, by end of February. We
were hoping to make the section would be available by the time this
version of Xpress was released (Feb 1, 1994) but negotiations with
CIS is slow.
FIDONET ECHO XPRESS_SUPPORT
───────────────────────────
This is the FIDONET support conference for general users and sysops'
users of the Silver Xpress Mail Reader. It is not intended to be a
very detailed, technical discussion area for sysops. Use the
XPRESS_SYSOP echo for such matters.
FIDONET ECHO XPRESS_SYSOP
─────────────────────────
This is the FIDONET support conference for SYSOPS using the Silver
Xpress Reader and Mail Doors. It is intended to be a detailed,
technical discussion area for sysops. Discussions include how to
improve operations of Silver Xpress and how to better improve the
"interface" of Silver Xpress with the BBS the sysop is using. These
are items in which the end user is not interested.
FIDONET NETMAIL
───────────────
Due to the high volume of netmail, direct Netmail is highly
discouraged by Santronics Software for rapid response. Response
will not be guaranteed to be immediate, and will take up to 1 week
or more. We ask that you limit netmail to registrations, purchasing
and beta testing request issues. If you have a sysop, technical
support question, please use the XPRESS_SYSOP echo.
INTERNET NETMAIL
────────────────
You may send Internet netmail to:
santronics@aibbs.com
Since Internet netmail arrives on our system via FidoNet Netmail,
the response rate will be slow.
RIME FORUM SILVER XPRESS
────────────────────────
Santronics Software has recently open up a RIME echo. Our moderator
for the RIME echo is Gary Petersen. Since it is new, we don't know
much about how this network works. However, we are working on
making it one our primary support forums for our growing base of
PCBOARD and Wildcat! Customers.
Please contact your RIME Network coordinator for a link.
2) BBS TECHNICAL SUPPORT
You may call the Santronics Software Xpress Support Remote Host
Center at 305-248-7815 and leave an electronic message with your
questions or comments. A reply will be available within 24-48
hours.
All patches, minor upgrades and other files will be available on
this Xpress Technical Support BBS center.
NOTE FOREIGN CUSTOMERS: Our Sales and Support Sites will offer BBS
technical support for Silver Xpress. Please see REGISTER.DOC for
more information.
3) VOICE SUPPORT
Customers who are not registered can use our voice support line at
305-248-3204 (EST 9-5pm) for questions and comments.
Registered customers have 1 hour of free support using our 800
number at 800-845-6944 (EST 9am-7pm). Have your registration number
