  1. This is a checkoff list for proper installation and operation of Silver
  2. Xpress.  Print this documentation and go through each item.

  4.  ┌──┐  Make sure utilities such as PKZIP, ARJ, LHA are available
  5.  └──┘  in a directory defined in the PATH statement.
  6.  
  7.        To see if this is set up correctly, make a temporary directory
  8.        called JUNK, off the Xpress directory.  Switch to this directory
  9.        and attempt to run PKZIP, PKUNZIP, ARJ, LHA or any other utility.
  10.        If DOS says "Bad Commmand or File Name", the utilities are not
  11.        on the PATH.

  13.        Check the XPARCH.CTL file and make sure the definitions are
  14.        correct for your system.  Please note that we define just one
  15.        PKZIP and assume you are using 2.04g.

  17.  ┌──┐  Make sure the XPRESS.BAT (XPRESS for PCBOARD) is correct for your
  18.  └──┘  setup.  Make sure it is switching directories and/or drives
  19.        correctly.

  22.  ┌──┐  Make sure the BBS will call the XPRESS.BAT (XPRESS for PCBOARD)
  23.  └──┘  correctly.  Do this by calling Xpress via the BBS.

  26.  ┌──┐  Do you want users to request file downloads with Silver Xpress?

  28.        Check the SETUP/MISC options.  Set the file request amount to
  29.        zero, if you want to turn this off.  If you want to set it on a
  30.        per user basis, edit the user flags.

  32.        The same is true with file uploads.
  33.  
  34.  ┌──┐  If you are not part of Fidonet, skip this.  As a FIDO sysop,
  35.  └──┘  you may be offering netmail to your users.  Check the Netmail
  36.        information section and make sure the netmail attributes are
  37.        set to what you want.

  39.  ┌──┐  File Scanner:  Make sure you only allow the scanned areas to
  40.  └──┘  be secured by you.  In other words, look at the file areas
  41.        picked up by Xpress, and make sure the high security areas are
  42.        not scanned by simulating a user login and usage of Xpress (Log
  43.        in as a user).

  45.  ┌──┐  Check the XPPROT.CTL.  This file now defaults to using the internal
  46.  └──┘  file transfer protocols in Silver Xpress.  If you have some reason
  47.        why you prefer to use an external protocol, modify this file.
  48.        Note:  The old XMT, a home grown program with XYZ modem capabilities,
  49.        is now obsolete.
