  3. sites. It is written in PHP and is easy
  4. to install and use on Linux, Windows,
  5. Mac OS X, SunOS, BSD, and Netware 6. It
  6. has been designed to support modern
  7. pedagogies based on social
  8. constructionist theory, and includes
  9. activity modules such as forums, chats,
  10. resources, journals, quizzes, surveys,
  11. choices, workshops, glossaries,
  12. lessons, and assignments. It has been
  13. translated into over 36 languages, with
  14. more on the way. Moodle offers a free
  15. alternative to commercial software such
  16. as WebCT or Blackboard, and is being
  17. used by a growing number of
  18. universities, schools, and independent
  19. teachers for distance education or to
  20. supplement face-to-face teaching.
