  65.      Welcome to the BBS Corner's Telnet BBS Guide - the largest regularly
  66.      maintained listing of Telnet BBS and related Internet accessable text-
  67.      based systems. We are not the only Telnet BBS Guide in existance, but
  68.      we are certainly one of the most popular.
  69.  
  70.      The Telnet BBS Guide started in October 1997. It is an offshoot of the
  71.      BBS Corner which started operation in April 1996.
  72.  
  73.      Before the Telnet BBS Guide, the most popular telnet guide was the SBI
  74.      Telnet BBS List (Select BBSes on the Internet) operated by Richard
  75.      Scott Mark. It ran from sometime in 1994 until July 1997 when it was
  76.      abandoned. This is quite surprising considering Richard had just
  77.      released a book about Internet accessable BBS systems. The website
  78.      continued to exist until July 1998 when the server's hard drive
  79.      crashed, and copies of it still exist in various forms on the
  80.      Internet.

  82.      By the time I decided to start my own list, his list was getting very
  83.      stale and out of date with a lot of dead BBS systems. I used what he
  84.      had, weeded out the dead BBS systems and added a bunch more from other
  85.      lists I was able to find at the time. If you remember Richard's list,
  86.      you'll see a lot of similaries here. The first Telnet BBS Guide was
  87.      released in late October 1997 and has been updated every month ever
  88.      since.

  90.      The main reason I started this list is that I didn't want the Bulletin
  91.      Board System to die with the Internet. The same basic concept of the
  92.      dial-up BBS of yesteryear still lives on using the telnet protocol via
  93.      the Internet. I also operate a telnet BBS and felt that we all needed
  94.      a shot in the arm. So I worked to create this list and work hard each
  95.      month to keep it as updated as possible.

  97.      Hopefully this list has made a difference and will continue to do so
  98.      in the future.

  683.      visit webrings that specialize in Fidonet.

  685.      A webring is a method where sites having a common theme advertise
  686.      other websites with simailar themes.  The advantage to the webring
  687.      concept is that in theory, the sites have an interest in maintaining
  688.      an accuate listing and can modify their own listings on a site by
  689.      site basis.

  691.      It appears that there are two fidonet webrings....the long-running
  692.      system at http://b.webring.com/hub?ring=fidonet and another at
  693.      http://www.fidonet.us/fidoring/
  694.  
  695.      The ring at webring.com is larger, but forces the viewer to look at
  696.      google ads panels. The smaller ring at fidonet.us does not depend on
  697.      adverstising revenue from ads.

  1205.      If you wish to submit an article for inclusion in the Fidonews, here
  1206.      are some guidelines, if you send it as an attached file; the preferred
  1207.      method if you want reasonable control over how the published article
  1208.      will appear in the Fidonews:
  1209.  
  1210.      a) Plain ASCII text. If you could type it on your keyboard, it's
  1211.         probably quite OK. No line may be longer than 70 characters.
  1212.  
  1213.      b) Put a title to the article. Put the title in two times. The first
  1214.         time, on the first line, with an * before it. The second time, on
  1215.         the second line, without the * and centered. This will help in the
  1216.         format since the title with the * is removed and used in the index,
  1217.         the second line will become the headline. On the third line, put
  1218.         your name and FidoNet address, present or former. If former, you
  1219.         may want to add some other address where you can be reached for
  1220.         personal comments.
  1221.  
  1222.      c) Deadline for article submission is Sunday, 22:00 UTC.
  1223.  
  1224.      Help the Editor by following the above guides. Below are some subjects
  1225.      and the file extension for the article as set in the configuration
  1226.      file for the making of the Fidonews. Please help by putting the file
  1227.      extension of the correct subject on the file name if known.
