  3. This is a gamma release which is intended for REGISTERED USERS ONLY, except
  4. for the new QuickBBS GoldBase version which may be used by unregistered
  5. persons too. Please make a backup of both data files AND program files first
  6. before installing this new version! The layout of the config files has changed,
  7. so if you want to go back to a previous version after installing 1.42g,
  8. you should restore the original config files as well.

  12. Since I didn't want to let you wait any longer for a new version of FMail,
  13. I haven't been able to update the docs. I hope this will not cause too much
  14. inconvenience. I'll try to update the docs as soon as possible.

  16. IF YOU CARRY MORE ECHO AREAS THAN THE STANDARD VERSION OF FSETUP CAN HANDLE
  17. ===========================================================================
  18. The current version of FSetup requires more memory than the previous ones.
  19. As a consequence, you may encounter problems when entering the Area Manager.
  20. You could try using the DPMI version of FSetup which can be found in the FMail
  21. DPMI package. You can only use this version of FSetup if you use a 80386
  22. computer or higher.

  24. MIXING DPMI 16/32 VERSIONS
  25. ==========================
  26. The FMail DPMI package contains both 16 bit and 32 bit versions. Running
  27. those versions at the same time may cause problems. So don't try to start
  28. FSetup (16 bit) and FMailX32 or FToolsX32 at the same time.

  30. WHICH FMAIL TO USE
  31. ==================
  32. Standard DOS version:   If you run a 8086 or 80286 computer or if you have
  33.                         a 80386 computer or higher and you don't carry too
  34.                         many echomail areas.
  35. DPMI version:           If you use a 80386 computer or higher and carry
  36.                         more areas than the standard version can handle.
  37.                         The DPMI version comes in two flavours: 16 bit DPMI
  38.                         and 32 bit DPMI. The 32 bit version can handle more
  39.                         areas and has better dupe detection facilities.
  40.                         Sometimes this version causes problems. In that case
  41.                         you could try using the 16 bit version.
  42. Windows/32 version      If you run FMail under Windows/95 or NT.
  43. OS/2 version:           if you run FMail under OS/2.

  45. GOLDBASE
  46. ========
  47. The GoldBase version of FMail uses the QUICK environment variable to locate
  48. the NETMAIL.DAT and ECHOMAIL.DAT files.
