  18.                         HAM Conference Guide Lines

  21.     1.  The topic.
  22.  
  23.         Topics should relate to radio in general, but try to keep it
  24.         as close to Amateur (HAM) radio as possible.  There is no topic
  25.         about radio that is off-topic.  Be forewarned, No-Code vs Code is
  26.         a viable topic for discussion here. (CB radio discussion is not
  27.         a taboo here. However, this doesn't mean we'll be using 10-codes
  28.         and CB 'good-buddy jargon' to communicate in the HAM echo.)
  29.  
  30.     2.  Decorum.
  31.  
  32.         NO blatant profanity, flames, insults or slander. Regardless
  33.         of your actual circumstances, please act as a mature,
  34.         responsible adult while participating in HAM.
  35.  
  36.     3.  Disputes with others.
  37.  
  38.         Any disputes with other echo users will be in a gentlemanly
  39.         or ladylike manner.
  40.  
  41.         Please leave the moderating to the moderator.  If you have a
  42.         dispute with the moderator, see section 8.
  43.  
  44.         Those conference users who do not have access to Email or
  45.         netmail should advise a moderator of their situation, here.
  46.         I'll do my best to provide you with a means of communication
  47.         to resolve any question or situation you may have.

  49.    4a.  Edit your Quotes!
  50.  
  51.         Keep your quoting to the minimum necessary to establish the
  52.         context of your reply.  Certainly, don't quote more than you
  53.         originate.
  54.  
  55.         Do not include the other persons - hello, goodbye, "In a
  56.         message to" lines, offline mail reader signatures, taglines,
  57.         mail tosser PID lines or origin lines in your quote unless
  58.         you are specifically replying to them.
  59.  
  60.    4b.  Misc message do's and don'ts.
  61.  
  62.         English is the official language of the HAM echo.  For those
  63.         whose 'first' language is English, make sure you check your
  64.         spelling and correct your grammar.  Let's set an example for
  65.         those whose 'first' language isn't English.
  66.  
  67.         Having to agree with what anyone else says is not a requirement
  68.         for this conference.  Disagree with opinions if you must, but do
  69.         not attack the person.
  70.  
  71.         This is not the place to display advertisements for any
  72.         other echo or your BBS. I advertise this echo in ECHO-ADS
  73.         and expect you to do the same.
  74.  
  75.         Taglines; Do not use any controversial taglines in the HAM
  76.         conference.
  77.  
  78.     5.  Conference access.
  79.  
  80.         The HAM conference is NOT bound by FidoNet! It's open to any
  81.         network and system that wishes to carry it.
  82.  
  83.         I have plans to incorporate a 'mailing list' type of internet
  84.         access to this echo. Anyone wishing to participate via an
  85.         internet mailing list, please forward your intentions to me via
  86.         netmail or to my email address.
  87.  
  88.         You must have permission from the HAM echo moderator to post
  89.         here if you're participating via the internet mailing list.
  90.  
  91.         Gating or cross-posting of the HAM conference to any other
  92.         conference and/or networks will not be permitted without explicit
  93.         permission from the moderator(s).
  94.  
  95.     6.  Use your real name.
  96.  
  97.         All messages posted in the HAM echo will contain the REAL
  98.         name of the poster.  Alias' are preferred in the body of the
  99.         message, but may be used in the FROM: field with permission
  100.         of the moderator.  Messages originating on/from the internet
  101.         mailing list will have the posters email address in the
  102.         header of the message.  The post must be signed by the
  103.         poster and the maillist must show the gateway being used to
  104.         post in this echo.
  105.  
  106.     7.  Commercial Use.
  107.  
  108.         Commercial use of an echo in Fidonet is frowned upon.
  109.         Secondly, sysops are paying for the transport of this
  110.         conference out of their own pockets, and don't want to foot
  111.         the bill for commercial advertising.
  112.  
  113.         However, store owners or businessmen MAY respond to want-ads
  114.         from people looking for specific products. If someone asks
  115.         "where can I get a blah-blah-blah?" feel free to respond if
  116.         you have a blah-blah-blah in stock.
  117.  
  118.         You may post an occasional "press release" type of message if
  119.         you have a _new_ or unique product that is of interest to the
  120.         conference participants.
  121.  
  122.         Advice, comments, and recommendations about commercial
  123.         products in response to a question are always appropriate.
  124.  
  125.     8. Fidonet Zone 2 Sysops and users, take note;
  126.  
  127.        It has come to the attention of this moderator that an echomail
  128.        policy, specifically EchoPol 1 and hereafter referred to as EP1,
  129.        is in force in Zone 2.
  130.  
  131.        Be advised that this echomail policy is not binding in Zone 1,
  132.        nor this echo. Zone 2 Sysops, by posting in this echo hereby forfeit
  133.        any rights of protection provided under the auspices of EP1.
  134.  
  135.         9. Loopholes.
  136.  
  137.         These rules are a living document and I reserve the right to
  138.         change them as I deem necessary.
  139.  
  140.         Unless specifically excepted, discussion of the rules of this
  141.         conference is off topic.  These are the rules.  Read them.
  142.         Learn them. Live them. Love them.
  143.  
  144.         However, I am open to suggestion for any change which a user
  145.         may wish to suggest.  I may not implement your ideas or rules
  146.         change, but don't let fear hold you back.
  147.  
  148.         All disputes with the Moderator(s) WILL be handled in private
  149.         Netmail or Email and not in the echo.  My method of handling
  150.         those who post a dispute with the moderator will be to cut their
  151.         access to this echo and then we'll talk.  Don't make me do it.
  152.  
  153.         Any input (via netmail or E-mail) is always welcome.
  154.         The addresses are listed at the beginning of this document.
