  1. ENGLISH TUTOR
  2. ECHO RULES
  3. 1.  The purpose of this echo is to provide help with mastering the English
  4. language. All the following rules are aimed at this goal.
  5. 2.  Play nice and play fair. Be kind to each other. Be considerate of, and
  6. respectful towards, all other participants. A helpful spirit on all
  7. participants' part is mandatory.
  8. 3.  No ridiculing. No personal attacks ("flames").
  9. 4.  If anyone feels the need to right a perceived wrong, please notify the
  10. moderator by Netmail or E-mail and ask him to deal with the problem.
  11. In other words, leave the moderating to the moderators.
  12. 5.  No profanity.  This is an international family echo. Participants are
  13. expected to act in a mature and polite manner. You may, however, ask
  14. the meaning of a vulgarism. You may also quote vulgarisms, for example in
  15. a joke, if it is not done to excess.
  16. 6.  The language of the ENGLISH_TUTOR echo is, predictably, English.
  17. 7.  Please do not quote more than necessary.
  18. 8.  Please use your real name.
  19. 9.  No advertisements for products or services.  You may mention
  20. programs, books, magazines and other sources or devices related to
  21. the study of the English language.
  22. 10. No formal qualifications are required to act as a tutor. Tutors are,
  23. however, expected to be literate in English.
  24. 11. Emphasis is based on the use of standard English, but regionalisms are
  25. acceptable provided they are identified as such.
  26. 12. The consistent use of American or British spellings is acceptable and
  27. need not be identified as such.
  28. 13. Due to their highly emotional implications, discussions of sex,
  29. religion, and politics need to be handled carefully. Within reason and
  30. good taste, such discussions will be tolerated.
  31. 14. Participation in this echo is a privilege.  Anyone is welcome here as
  32. long as they abide by the rules.  Breaking of the rules may lead to the
  33. revoking of this welcome. We try to avoid removing the privilege of
  34. posting here as much as we can, but it can happen and, if necessary,
  35. will.
