  3. I EXPECT to have very little, or (preferably) NO work to do.
  4. I'd rather be the "UN-Moderator" of a largely self-moderating echo. I
  5. don't want to "wave a stick" around.
  6. I firmly believe that *self* discipline is preferable to imposed
  7. discipline.
  8. That said, here are the rules.

  11. o The VIRUS_INFO conference is dedicated to the exchange of information
  12. about
  13. detecting and removing computer viruses, methods/software/techniques/etc
  14. to recover from virus attacks, new virus warnings, etc.  Please keep
  15. your
  16. messages related to the topic of the conference.
  17. o Virus writers are welcome to participate, but bear in mind that this is
  18. an
  19. ANTI-virus conference.
  20. o Posting/requesting/offering viruses, virus source code, disassemblies,
  21. etc,
  22. will get you barred from the conference!
  23. o Praising/promoting the writing or spreading of viruses will get you
  24. barred
  25. from the conference!
  26. o Responding positively to "Where can I download a virus ?", "Where can I
  27. learn how to write a virus ?", "What's the password to VCL ?", and
  28. similar
  29. obviously PRO-virus messages will get you barred from the conference!
  30. o Viruses which destroy hardware, burn out monitors, etc, are OFF-TOPIC!
  31. No virus researcher has ever seen such a virus.  They do NOT exist ...
  32. and
  33. unless you can prove otherwise by providing the moderator with a working
  34. example of one, don't even THINK about mentioning them in this
  35. conference!
  36. o "email viruses" are OFF-TOPIC!  They do NOT exist!  Posting "email
  37. virus"
  38. warnings and similar hoaxes will show the world how stupid and gullible
  39. you are, and will get you barred from the conference.
  40. o VIRUS_INFO is a REAL NAMES ONLY conference!  Obviously this is
  41. impossible
  42. to police 100%, but use a reasonable facsimile of a human name if you
  43. want
  44. to remain anonymous.  BBS aliases and "VX" nicknames are NOT acceptable!
  45. o Do NOT reply to messages from anyone using an obvious alias!
  46. o VIRUS_INFO is an ENGLISH LANGUAGE ONLY conference.  If you wish to
  47. converse
  48. in a language other than English, use a LOCAL message area.
  49. o Users must not reply to messages from banned users, or quote messages
  50. from
  51. banned users, or crosspost messages by banned users from other
  52. conferences.
  53. The Banned User List is posted regularly and updated as required.
  54. Reading
  55. it might save you from joining it!
  56. o All messages must display a valid fidonet address in their origin line.
  57. o Do NOT use fancy "internet style" signatures in this conference ... save
  58. your artistic talents for the internet!
  59. o PGP or otherwise encrypted (including uuencoded) messages are NOT
  60. allowed!
  61. o PGP Public Key signatures may be used for message authentication, but
  62. ONLY
  63. if the message content warrants positive identification of its author.
  64. o Announcements of anti-virus program releases and updates are welcome,
  65. but
  66. blatant advertising will NOT be tolerated!  (Anti-Virus authors and
  67. their
  68. agents should pay particular attention to this rule ... the moderator's
  69. definition of "blatant advertising" is extremely narrow!)
  70. o The moderator is the sole arbiter of all disputes arising in VIRUS_INFO!
