  1. SEARCHLIGHT BBS NEW USER HELP INFORMATION
  2.  
  3. This message is displayed once per session to all users who are configured 
  4. for the 'NOVICE' help level. If you are new to Searchlight BBS software, 
  5. please read the following information carefully!  
  6.  
  7.  - To execute a command, type the FIRST LETTER of the command and press the 
  8.    RETURN key. For a list of commands, type 'H' then RETURN. You can also 
  9.    scroll through the commands with the arrow keys. In NOVICE mode, command
  10.    descriptions are displayed as you scroll (in ANSI modes only).

  12.  - To SELECT a choice from a SUBMENU, press the FIRST LETTER of the choice;
  13.    DO NOT press RETURN. Alternately, you can scroll through the commands 
  14.    with the arrow keys (ANSI modes only).
  15.  
  16.  - To SUPRESS this message and operate this BBS with less verbose help
  17.    messages, execute the OPTIONS command and set your help level to EXPERT.
  18.  
  19.  - To *ABORT* this message NOW, or abort ANY message or listing AT ANY TIME,
  20.    simply press the SPACEBAR or CONTROL-C keys.
  21.  
  22.  - PUBLIC MESSAGES: Public messages are read and written with the commands
  23.    READ, POST, SCAN and NEW. To access different message SUBBOARDS, use the 
  24.    LIST or JUMP commands.
  25.  
  26.  - PRIVATE MESSAGES: Private messages are handled through the MAIL command.
  27.    Each SEARCHLIGHT BBS user is assigned a personal 'mailbox' with which to
  28.    send and receive personal mail. Use MAIL for private messages only.
  29.  
  30.  - FILE TRANSFER: If available on this system, file transfer is handled via
  31.    the File Transfer System. To get to it, execute the FILES command.
  32.  
  33.  - EXTERNAL PROGRAMS: Execute the DOORS command any time to view or execute
  34.    the available external door programs.
  35.  
  36.  - MORE HELP: A verbose description of EACH main menu command is available 
  37.    right on-line. To read a help file, type the first letter of the desired
  38.    command, then press ? or F1.
