  6.           General Information, Terms of Agreement, and Application

  9.      ACnet is a network for WWIV, VBBS, and PPP compatible bulletin board
  10.  systems.  If you would like to join, please read the following information
  11.  and terms of membership.  Then fill out this application.
  12.  
  13.  Once you've completed it, you must rename it to <last_name>.APP.  This is
  14.  to prevent it from being looked over or overwritten by another application.
  15.  Then upload it to The Gate BBS, (704-538-5116). Unless otherwise worked out, 
  16.  LD charges will be the responsibility of the joining node.  However, FileNet 
  17.  makes this obsolete!

  37. Advanced Communications Network (ACnet) has been a prominent WWIV network in
  38. the Shelby/Charlotte area for several years.  The way I, Eli Sanford, the
  39. current network co-ordinator, understand it, it began with the sysop of The
  40. Underground, currently known as Dragon Warrier.  He then passed it along to
  41. Clone1, who passed it to Lil' Abner of Dogpatch USA.  When Lil' Abner
  42. no longer was able to continue with ACnet, he asked Madam X of The Druid's Keep
  43. then the NC of CowboyNet, to take ACnet and merge the two largest WWIV based
  44. networks in Charlotte together.  CowboyNet originated with The Byter, sysop
  45. Carolina Cowboy, now known as Spacecow of The Cyber Farm. Once Madam X could
  46. no longer handle the load, she passed ACnet on to Gate Keeper of The Gate BBS
  47. Who ran Acnet for years. Then the tourch was pasted to Me Eli Sanford Of
  48. Skulls & Crossbones. Acnet is the largest network in the Charlotte,
  49. North Carolina area.  I feel very priviledged to be given the
  50. responsibility to continue the great efforts of all my predecessors, and
  51. grateful for the support of all the sysops in the network.  Together we make
  52. ACnet what it is today!!!

  56.                       Terms of Agreement for Membership
  57.  
  58. All members of ACnet will support WWIV Services Inc. by registering the
  59. software legally.  Unregistered boards are allowed in the network, but
  60. registration is encouraged.  Registered sysops will agree to not distribute
  61. the WWIV source code or mods to unregistered sysops, as this is illegal.
  62. ACnet Boards will not enter fake registration numbers or use pirated source
  63. code.  If you suspect someone of doing this, it is your responsibility to
  64. notify the NC of this so that I may investigate this possibility.  Anyone
  65. using a fake registration number will be asked to remove it.  Anyone found
  66. to be using pirated source code will be immediately removed from the network
  67. and reported to WWIV Services.  We paid for it, you should too!
  68.  
  69. Network Validation is supported and encouraged by the NC of ACnet.  Sysops
  70. may host whatever type of sub they wish, however, adult subs should be noted
  71. as such in the description in //BE.  Sub hosting is supported and encouraged
  72. as well.  I'm sure each sysop has some great ideas, and I would love 100%
  73. of the boards in ACnet to host subs.  Of course this isn't required, but it
  74. would be nice :)

  76. BBS Taglines should remain within a maximum of five lines.  However, keep in
  77. mind that many networks require a limit of three, so this is a good guideline
  78. to follow if you belong to more networks than ACnet.  I ask that you do
  79. refrain from using profanity in your BBS taglines.  Taglines should NOT be
  80. ANSI codes!!!  There are great programs out there to make taglines that look
  81. like ansi, but consist of WWIV heart codes.  Ansi taglines make your posts
  82. unreadable as they scroll completely off the screen (no pauses).

  84. No manual updates (via subs) will be used.  You MUST be able to receive
  85. automatic updates to be a member of ACnet.
  86.  
  87. At times, it may become necessary for me, the NC, to ask a sysop to turn on
  88. network validation, restict a certain user from access to posting on ACnet,
  89. or other unforseen events.  ACnet sysops must be willing to agree by my
  90. requests in the event that this becomes necessary.

  92. ACnet does NOT support pirating, hacking, or phreaking of any manner!  ACnet
  93. sysops should NOT participate in the spreading of viruses, ansi bombs, or
  94. any destructive programs, and should NOT make these programs available for
  95. download, even if designated as such.  Virus scanning of uploads is
  96. encouraged.

  98. ACnet sysops should respect the privacy of their users, and should especially
  99. not use the priviledged information of user passwords to attempt to log onto
  100. other boards using a users account.  Sharing of user information, such as
  101. real names, address and phone numbers is allowed in the event of a problem
  102. user, but only with other ACnet sysops.  However passwords should NOT be
  103. shared even with other sysops. The sharing of ANY information about users
  104. should NEVER be given out to anyone except in the afore mentioned situation
  105. of sharing bad user info with other ACnet sysops in order to prevent problems
  106. with ACnet or ACnet BBS's.
