Version 0.65
Created by:
Mat Butler (The Duke Of Eral) and
Fox Cutter (Foxeris)
Copyright 1995 by SoftSupp
Welcome to one of the first sharewere WWIV-type network
updaters. Called The Network Updater (TNU). This program,
currently in version 0.65, is made to send an update to any
board on a WWIV-type network at the push of a button (at
times not even that!).
1.0 The Idea:
TNU was made as a solution to the problems of running
a WWIV-type network. The authors both where the NC's of
2 separate networks, with requests from several others
to create a low-cost network updating software that
supported VBBS boards also (This is still in the works).
As you may know, Wayne Bell (the author of WWIV and NC
of WWIVNet) sells a commercial network updating
software, NETUP. However, the cost of that is $100,
which is much to high. The only other software that the
author knows about the updates WWIV networks is called
The Network Coordinator. Even though TNC costs $35, it
does not yet support VBBS. However, you can not get a
shareware version of either of these two programs that
sends updates through the network, to see how it runs.
Enter TNU. As far as the authors know, there is no
shareware updater that, when unregistered, will send
updates through the network. The authors felt the need
for one, considering that there are any number of small
WWIV-type networks through out the country, a shareware
program that has the ability to do this, plus the
ability to send source-verified e-mail to other boards,
and all so send out pings (get networked sub information
from your board) and use the pongs (the returns from
pings) to make and send SUBS.LST over the net.
2.0 System Requirements:
WWIV 4.22+
NET31+
DOS 3.3+
or
Windows 3.0+ and Dos 3.3+
or
OS/2 Dos 2.1+

TNU needs for you to have a line in your config.sys file
like the one shown belore, (40 is sugested, it can be higher):
FILES=40
4.0 Important Information:
If you are upgrading form an old version of TNU, you will need to
have all your boards get an updated copy of de42.exe.
This version of TNU will only send the first 30k of any file.
5.0 Registration:
As of version 0.60 TNU now uses registration codes. While
TNU is unregestered some options will not be able to be used.
The list of commands will tell you which ones these are.
5.1 Why Register?
When you register (Right now $20) you will receive
a registration code that will unlock disabled items
in later versions.
To register fill out TNUREG.TXT that came with the
TNU065.ZIP file.

TNU065.ZIP file includes the following files.

Step 4. Copy MENUS.TNU into your gfiles directory.
Step 5. Copy HELP.TNU into your gfiles directory.
