Purpose :
The purpose of The WWIV Registry - ßeta-3 release is to allow users of
your system to openly exchange information on themselves.
Instructions :
1. Pkunzip your WWIV Registry - ßeta-3 release archive. (This should
already be done if you are reading this document.)
2. Run the registry by executing "wwivreg.exe". The syntax you must follow
will appear. All that must be done is to specify the path to your WWIV
drop file - chain.txt or chain.#.
(example => "wwivreg.exe chain.txt" or "wwivreg.exe chain.001")
If you are running this program outside of your main WWIV directory,
please use a batch file to go to the specified directory. For instance,
I run the registry in a subdirectory called "beta3". Here is an example
of my batch file.
registry.bat =>
@echo off { turns dos echo off }
cd\wwiv\beta3 { jumps to the directory beta3 }
wwivreg.exe ..\chain.txt { executes registry }
cd\wwiv { jumps back to main wwiv directory }
Extra :
The WWIV Registry - ßeta-3 has some added features. These features add the
ability to customize the program quite a bit. The program included
"library.exe" will allow Sysops to add or alter registry questions,
as well as change many of the colors that are displayed. There is also an
option to change the way the program displays colors. These options are
all located within "library.exe" under the subtitle "Configure registry".
If you choose option 'A' in "library.exe" and you are prompted for
"response", be aware that this entry is asking for the total length of the
answer to the question. The answer will be restricted to this number of
spaces. Also, when prompted "Use XY coordinates?", this question is asking
if you would like to locate the current question in a different location
than against the left margin of the next line.
Command line parameters :
There are two command line parameters that may be used for
The WWIV Registry - ßeta-3 release. These two parameters are
[1] (path to chain.txt or chain.#) and [2] (/c).
The path to chain.txt or chain.# is the exact location of the WWIV drop file.
(example - \wwiv\chain.txt)
"/c" will force the registry to search the data files for a particular user
logging onto the system. This option should be used in INIT under the option
"logon event" under the subheading of "6. external programs". If the user
hasn't filled out the registry, he or she will be prompted to do so. Do not
use this option when running the registry as a door.
If you are running this program outside of your main WWIV directory,
please use a batch file to go to the specified directory. For instance,
I run the registry in a subdirectory called "beta3". Here is an example
of my batch file which serves my purposes for the logon event.
logon.bat =>
@echo off { turns dos echo off }
cd\wwiv\beta3 { jumps to the directory beta3 }
wwivreg.exe ..\chain.txt /c { executes registry }
cd\wwiv { jumps back to main wwiv directory }
Upgrading :
There is no way to upgrade from previous versions of The WWIV Registry.
Since the data can be customary, there are too many possibilities that may
occur to make one program fix all.
Support :
New versions of The WWIV Registry will be available at Blue Thunder BBS
(818)848-4101 US.
Thank you for choosing Tronix Developer's software,
CJ aka Charles Sperber
