What Is Message To Next Caller(s):
(Introductions/History)
──────────────────────────────────
Message To Next Caller(s) allows your users to leave a message to be
read by all the users that logon after him until it is changed! I originaly
wrote it due to the fact that the one I had from Datagen Software Designs,
written by John Dailey just didn't match the "style" of my BBS! I wanted
something that was very user friendly like John's, but allowed more custom
look to it!
Setup:
──────
On to the setup... The setup process is VERY easy to setup and is
actually very easy too! The first step is to unarchive all the file contained
within the ZIP file to their own directory. Next simply move to the directory
you placed them in and type SETUP. This will start the setup program which
will create the required configuration file. The setup program has detailed,
setp by step instructions which are easy to follow, thus I will not go into
great detail here in the DOCs about the setup program!
Next create a batch file (.BAT file) that contains the instructions
for loading the Message To Next Caller Door! There is an example batch file
included in the archive named MTN.BAT. This will give you an idea as to what
it should/could look like...
Example:
@ECHO OFF
CD\WWIV\DOORS\MTN
MTN MTN.CFG
CD\WWIV
Next setup the door in your Doors area (known as the Chain area on
WWIV BBS(s)). Here is an example Chain Area setup for WWIV Sysops:
A) Description : Message To Next Callers
B) FileName : [Sysop's Choice]
C) SL : [Sysop's Choice]
D) AR : [Sysop's Choice]
E) ANSI Req. : Yes
F) Dos Interrupt: NO!
G) 300 Baud : [Sysop's Choice]
H) Shrink : Yes [Can be NO but runs best as Yes!]
I) Disable Pause: [Sysop's Choice]
J) Local Only : [Sysop's Choice]
K) MultiUser : [Sysop's Choice]
As I said before this program CAN be used on ANY BBS package that
supports the PCBOARD.SYS drop file, but you will have to figure out how to
set it up for your specific type of BBS... In the future I hope to get some
help from some Sysops who run BBSs other than WWIV to tell me how THEY have
it setup so I can add that information to the DOCs.
And Last off you will mearly have to add the following to your
LOGON.BAT (or whatever you have named it) for WWIV boards, or to your TOP
menu for RA or QuickBBS Boards. Like I said I'm not too sure about other
BBS packages but you WILL have to add the following to your LOGON event for
WWIV or something simalar:
@ECHO OFF
CLS
TYPE C:\WWIV\GFILES\MTONEXT.MSG
PAUSE
** NOTE: The file that Message to next callers creates is named
MTONEXT.MSG
That's all there is to the BASIC setup.. If you want a more custom
look to the headers then read the Customizing Headers section!
The Information Bar:
────────────────────
At the bottom of the screen when a user is in the door there is
various information avaiable to you as the Sysop. At the bottom two lines
it displays the users name (or Handle with WWIV boards using handles), time
left in MINUTES, the time they entered the door, the current time, and the
SYSOP keys... The Sysop keys are listed below along with what they do...
F5 - Shell to DOS
F8 - Kick User Out Of Door Back To BBS
F10 - Chat With The User
Customizing Headers:
────────────────────
If you would like to change the "look"/"style" of the Message to Next
Callers you may edit the HEADERx.ANS files with a standard ANSI editor such
as TheDraw to make them look as you like! Simply make your header ANSI, and
save it with the BLOCK command that TheDraw offers. When saving it you must
save it named one of the following file names:
Header1.Ans
Header2.Ans
Header3.Ans
Header4.Ans
Header5.Ans
Header6.Ans
Header7.Ans
Header8.Ans
There cannot be fewer of less than eight at this time... That MAY be
an option for a later version but it is not as of right now... Sorry!
