====================
(I-1) : Introduction
====================
Call the AVA WHQ or a distribution site to get the latest version of
AOV.ZIP at (410)426-8748. Or you may contact the AVA over DigiNet
or Internet at the addresses listed on the top of this file.
==================
(I-2) : Disclaimer
==================
The program is basically VERY safe. This program is standing on an AS-IS
basis. The author nor the Audio Video Assembly can NOT be held responsible
for ANYthing that may happen to your system as a result of running this online
chain. There shouldn't be any problems or crashes, but just incase an
unexpected "feature" pops up, don't come bang down our doors.
===============================
(I-3) Files included in archive
===============================
AOV.EXE The executable program
AVA.INI The initialization file AOV.EXE uses
SYSOP.DOC The documentation you are reading now
FILE_ID.DIZ
DE-DM.EXE Digital Monthly Ad
Also included are all of the ANSi/RiP and TXT files for AOV.
There are alot, and are not going to be listed here.
===============================
(I-4) : About the Online Viewer
===============================
Welcome to the Online Viewer produced by Audio Video Assembly
Productions. This is a interesting one of a kind program which we created
so that our AVA Distribution Sites could have some of the best work from
the AVA online. However we decided to release the viewer with the graphix
not hard coded into the program or combined into one large file and created
an initialization file so that sysops can change what files are online to
be viewed. Call an AVA Distribution Site if you would like an unmodified
copy of the AOV for your BBS.
====================================
(I-5) : Viewing Ansi and RiPs Online
====================================
The material you will be able to view with the online viewer/displayer
depends on the terminal emulation and support available on the terminal
program ran on the remote side.
Ansi support is required to view any ansi format files, it is recommended
that you set your screen to 80x50 mode since many of the AVA ansis provided
are made with that screen mode in mind.
RiPscripts must be viewed with a terminal program such as RIPTERM.
If you do not have RiP support, prepare for alot of rip code garble. :)
RIPTERM has both ansi and rip support so if you call to see the rips, you
can view the ansis as well.
========================================
(I-6) What's New in this Release Version
========================================
v2.1 + User Kill Command Added
+ F10 chat mode added
+ Added section [A] to the main menu.
+ Minor Menu Bug Fix
+ Change in Status Line
+ Synchronet BBS Support
<---------------------------------------------------------------------------->
SECTION ][ : Installing the AVA Online Viewer into your BBS AOV
<---------------------------------------------------------------------------->
========================
(II-1) : Directory Setup
========================
The Audio Video Assembly Online Viewer must be executed in its own
subdirectory. Your BBS ideally should call a batch file which should change
to the AOV directory, execute the AOV.EXE, and change back to your BBS
directory. This DOC will assume your main BBS directory is named "C:\WWIV"
and that AVA Online Viewer is in subdirectory "C:\WWIV\AOV".
To install AOV (AVA Online Viewer), you will need the CHAIN.TXT file. If you
are not running WWIV, you will have to use one of the programs available that
will create the CHAIN.TXT file from your BBS software's drop file.
Make a directory on your hard disk to unzip the AVA Online Viewer
(C:\WWIV\AOV). All the files in the zip should be in there execpt for
AOV.BAT, which you should copy into your main BBS directory (C:\WWIV).
Your AOV.BAT should look something similiar to this:
ECHO OFF
CD \WWIV\AOV
COPY ..\CHAIN.TXT
AOV
CD \WWIV
==================================
(II-2) : Installing AOV in the BBS
==================================
Run WWIV, go into Chainedit (hit "C" at WFC) and create a new entry for
AOV with the following information:
After you have a CHAIN.TXT file, follow the following steps:
A. Description : AVA Online Viewer
B. Filename : AOV
C. SL : 20
D. AR : None.
E. ANSI : Yes
F. DOS Interrupt: Used (***IMPORTANT***)
G. 300 Baud : Allowed
H. Shrink : Yes (***IMPORTANT***)
I. Disable Pause: Yes (***IMPORTANT***)
J. Local Only : No
K. Multi user : No
Thats it, you should now having a working copy of AOV installed on your
BBS now!
<---------------------------------------------------------------------------->
SECTION III : Features and Sysop Commands for AOV AOV
<---------------------------------------------------------------------------->
========================
(III-1) : Carrier Detect
========================
To prevent users from being able to crash your system by hanging up while in
the game, AOV does a carrier Detect check every two seconds. If no carrier
is detected, then AOV displays the no carrier warning and immediately drops
back to the BBS for the board to re-load.
========================
(III-1) : COM Port Setup
========================
AOV reads all of the COM parameters from the BBS drop file. Because of this,
there is no modem config file needed to edit. Supports all modem speeds.
Modems must be set non-parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit (N81) for AOV to run
properly. No fossil drivers needed to run door.
========================
(III-1) : The Statusline
========================
Hitting F1 will pop up the user status line which will display several
important bits of information for the sysop.
User: Gizmo (Jack Morgan III) 21:15:34 AVA Online Viewer
Input Buffer: 0 Output Buffer: 0 Programmed by Frank Burton III
The information is:
1. The person's user name from the BBS.
2. The user's real name from the BBS.
3. The system time from the BBS computer.
4. Input Buffer: How many bytes the computer is buffering from the
remote side.
5. Output Buffer: How many bytes the computer is buffering to send out
to the user's remote side.
AOV requires no daily maintenance from the system opertator. Set it up
once and forget about it.
===========================
(III-2) : User Kill Command
===========================
Hitting F5 while a user is online will drop the user back to the BBS as a
normal exit. It includes the exit screen and removes the user from the
viewer.
===================
(III-3) : Chat Mode
===================
Sysops can now hit F10 and go into chat mode. Chat mode color is cyan with
user color normal intensity, and sysop color intense cyan. Hitting ESC exits
out of chat mode.
<---------------------------------------------------------------------------->
SECTION IV : Advanced Features of AOV AOV
<---------------------------------------------------------------------------->
======================================
(IV-1) : Customizing the Online Viewer
======================================
To customize AOV, go in and edit the AOV.INI file and change what sub-
menus are to be displayed. Follow the directions listed below.
=====================================
(IV-2) : How to edit the AOV.INI file
=====================================
If you are changing what ansis are to be displayed, use an editor such as
DOS EDIT. Don't use a word processor because many word processors contain
margin / control codes that will prevent AOV from reading the
initializtion file.
Start on the top line. Do not leave any blank. The first line of the
INI file must be the number of sections following "NUM_SECTIONS=". The
second line is the section one identification "~1". The third line is
the number of files to be displayed in that section. The next line of
the file should have the title of the section. The next line is the
filename to be displayed (from your AOV directory). On the next line, put
the description for that file. Then on the following line, repeat the pro-
cess, starting with a new filename, then description, etc. You must have
at least one ANSi filename for each section and at most 20.
You may have up to 8 sections. For each section remember to start with
the ident "~1", "~2" etc for sections one and two respectfully.
Below is an example of how the file is set up:
NUM_SECTIONS=2 (number of Sections for Menu)
~1 (first section ident)
NUM_AREAS=2 (number of files for section one)
title of section 1 (first section title)
TEST.TXT (filename.ext to be displayed)
Description to be used (what shows up in the menu)
MORE.ASC (filename.ext to be displayed)
Description to be used (what shows up in the menu)
~2 (second section ident)
NUM_AREAS=3 (number of files for section two)
title of section 2 (second section title)
ANSI.ANS (filename.ext to be displayed)
Description to be used (what shows up in the menu)
HI!!.RIP (filename.ext to be displayed)
Description to be used (what shows up in the menu)
LALA.RIP (filename.ext to be displayed)
Description to be used (what shows up in the menu)
NOTE: Check the AVA.INI file for the default setup
NO BLANK LINES ANYWHERE IN THE AOV.INI FILE, INCLUDING THE END.
<---------------------------------------------------------------------------->
SECTION V : Error Messages and Trouble Shooting AOV
<---------------------------------------------------------------------------->
=======================
(V-1) : Section Numbers
=======================
Error: Section Number not allowed on line 11 in config file: AOV.INI.
If you get to the main menu and this error comes up, it means you added a
section number greater than eight. Remember AOV uses up to 8 sections.
<---------------------------------------------------------------------------->
SECTION IV: Look Here
<---------------------------------------------------------------------------->
=====================
(IV-1) : Registration
=====================
This program is freeware, which means it has no costs involved for
any sort of registration. For registration, we do ask that you drop either
Frank or Gizmo an e-mail telling us that you are running the program.
All WWiV dist sites are required to have this program online as of 02/94.
=================================
(VI-2) : Donations to da door man
=================================
Have comments, questions or requests, and would like to contact the
author of this door via U.S. Snail Mail, heres the address. Like the program
and are using it for your ansis and material? If you like this program alot,
and are feeling generous, I'm sure Mr door man Frank wouldn't mind you mailing
a few bucks to show your appriciation.
