AutoMessage Enhancement Program v1.0 ■ Adam Shiver

─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Introduction:
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Just recently I aquired a copy of AEAM which will modify your
Auto.MSG file for WWIV (AutoMessage), to put a nice looking border around it.
I loved the idea, and the look of the program, but saw a few things that I
would have liked in the program...
Here is a small description (by the author) of AEAM:
> AEAM is a program which will add color and other such things to WWIV's
> otherwise vanilla AUTO.MSG. It is pretty much a direct rip of The Wandering
> Witness' EAM (Enhanced Auto-Message), but adds some additional features, most
> of which are configurable, and doesn't mention itself in the output it
> produces.

Features of AMEP v1.0:
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
·∙─═> Has a FAST and easy setup!
·∙─═> Is VERY easily customized to the Sysop's likes.
·∙─═> Has the abbility to use external border 'style' files which
enables the sysop to enable the option to have AMEP RANDOMLY
choose a new style each time the AutoMessage is changed or
have ONE border 'style' file.
·∙─═> Very fast at processing the border files, and AutoMessage to
turn out a NICE looking automessage.
·∙─═> Top line, bottom line, and sidebars configurable
as strings.
·∙─═> All ColorCodes are configurable.
·∙─═> It's FREE! What more can ya ask for...

Installation and Border setups:
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The first thing is of course to unZIP the archive into wither your
WWIV directory or a directory of it's own. This much you have probably done
by now though if you're reading the DOCs huh!?
The next thing is to edit the AMEP.CFG file with a standard text
editor. The configuration file is as follows (very simple):
C:\WWIV\GFILES <----Your Gfiles Path
Border.STL <----Name of your border stlye
file or the word RANDOM
which is discussed below.
Simply edit the configuration file so it will tell on line number one
where your GFILES path is (or where you have the AUTO.MSG file created, but is
usually your GFILES directory). And on the second line put the name of the
file containing yourt border style... this is discvussed in greater detail
further on in the Installion/Border Setup portion of the DOCs.
This is all there is to setting it up... Then simply run your AMEP.EXE
file, and it will process your currect AutoMessage.
═───══[Border Style Setup]═──────══>
Like I said I loved this program, but it needed something. In AMEP
(AutoMessage Enhancement Program) it will do what AEAM does but a little more
efficently. Instead of having the border 'style' in the configuration file,
as in AEAM, AMEP uses seperate 'stlye files'. This allows you to also have
AMEP randomly choose a stlye for each time the automessage changes. It also
cuts down on the confusion of the Configuration file. In AEAM you had to
setup your border like this...
7╔─────────────────────────────────────────╗
7│1 7│
7│1 7│
7│1 7│
7╚─────────────────────────────────────────╝0
I thought that this is a little too hard for the novice WWIV Sysop to
use. You have to make sure your middle (side) lines are spaced correctly.
That is why the AMEP 'style' files are setup in an easy to understand format.
1,1
7╔─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─╗
7│1,7│0
7╚─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─═─╝0
This way is setup for minimum confusion and will add a few fetures to
the program as well. The first line in the 'style' file tells the number of
lines for the TOP and BOTTOM of the border (1 or 2 is the suggested, but if
you've MODed WWIV to work with longer AUTO MESSAGES then by all means use as
many as you wish. The secon line is the TOP of the border. The third line is
for your LEFT and RIGHT SIDES of the border... they are as the first line
seperated by a comma. And of course the last line in the 'style' file is the
BOTTOM line of the border.
AMEP comes with 5 different example borders that you may change as you
wish. ALSO note that if you place the word RANDOM in place of the border file
name in the configuration program then it will read the file RANDOM.LST in and
choose a RANDOM border filename from that.
RANDOM.LST Example:
Border.STL
Border2.STL
Border3.STL
Border4.STL
Border5.STL
etc...........
This will allow AMEP to choose a random Border for each time that the
AutoMessage changes.
The last thing you will want to do is to put it in your WWIV.BAT batch
file. This way it will be run after each user logs off... this way it can
chack to see if the automessage has changed and if so, act accordingly... I
myself run a FrontDoor mailer with my board for Fido Capabilities, so I have
it in my FrontDoor Batch file... whatever works for you!
