Welcome to the diverse world of Excaliber
09
In Excaliber you are king of your own domain. You control all facets of
your kingdom. The life of a king is both adventurous and challenging.
There will be obstacles along the way which will cause you to question
your leadership ability. You have many tools at your disposal to help
you in your quest.
You have only one true mission in Excaliber. It is to be the first to
withdraw the sword Excaliber from the stone. This is a difficult task
which will take all of your resources to complete, but once it is done
you alone will rule the kingdom.

Main Palace
═══════════
09The Main Palace is were you make all of the decisions that effect your
success in the game. There are several options available from the
Palace menu:

Each option either brings you into a separate sub area or displays
information. To select an option simply press the key in the [] and
press the ENTER key on your keyboard. To exit any sub area press the
ENTER key alone.

[M]arket Place
══════════════
09The Market Place allows you to conduct various business
transactions. It is here that you can purchase and sell Land, Horses
and Grain.
[L]and Transactions: Land is needed to build Castles, Villages and
Farms. It is also a requirement if you wish to attract any Knights to
your domain. Land is not an unlimited resource. There is only a
certain amount to be tendered.
[H]orse Transactions: Horses are required to equip your Knights and
prepare them for battle.
[G]rain Transactions: Consider purchasing grain if your stocks are
running low.

[G]overnment Decisions
══════════════════════
09You are able to make decisions in this sub area that affect your
domain in a political manner.
[T]ax Rate Change: Increasing the Tax Rate for extra income can be
very effective. Be careful not to get too greedy. Anything above 20%
can be met with the revolt of your serfs.
[V]illage Funding: In order to attract more Serfs you must set aside
both gold and land to build villages. Villages also supply you with
a tax income.
[C]astle Construction: Castles are necessary to recruit Knights to
your kingdom.
[F]arm Allotment: Farms are an essential part of your political
system. Invest early in Farms for a successful empire.
[R]ecruit Knights: Recruiting Knights will cost you dearly in land
and castle requirements.

[T]raining Arena
══════════════
09You are able to equip and train your recruited Knights here.
[E]quip Knights: Equipping Knights requires gold and horses.
[T]rain Knights: Training Knights is an expensive proposition.

[C]ontinue
══════════
09This option allows you to close the books on the previous year. After
choosing this option you will be able to make various decisions
affecting your empire.
The first bit of information presented to you here is how the weather
has effected crop output.
It is here also that you will gain from tax revenue. After learning of
your various village tax gains you will be given the number of serfs
that have either migrated or left your empire.
The next prompt requires that you feed your serfs for the upcoming
year. A number too low here will cause your population to decrease.
Only after feeding your serfs do you find out how much tax revenue you
were able to get from them.
If you were able to go up a Class Level due to population growth or go
down one due to decrease you will be informed at this point.
The next situation to arise is one of attack. If you choose to attack
another ruler this is your chance. You can gain various capital items
from other rulers by attacking at this point. Make sure your strength
is good or you will be on the losing end of the battle. If in the mist
of a battle you choose to exit, simply press the space bar and the
battle will discontinue. You, however, will lose various items to the
victor. If you choose not to attack at the attack prompt, simply press
ENTER.
When choosing another ruler to attack you will not be able to attack out
of your class or attack a ruler who is new to the game.

[Y]our Statistics

09This prompt will display all of your imperative statistics.

[B]anking Transactions
══════════════════════
09Choosing this option lets you deposit gold into an interest earning
savings account. The bank offers the attractive rate of 10% per
calendar day.

[F]ind Excaliber
════════════════
09In order to attempt to find Excaliber and win the game, you must be a
level 10 ruler. To get to this stage is a difficult task. Even after
reaching level 10, you will find beings that wish to see Excaliber never
withdrawn from the stone that has held it for centuries.

[R]ead Daily News
═════════════════
09This option presents you with a current days events. Who logged on to
the game, attacked and so on is logged here.

[S]ee Hall of Fame
══════════════════
09View players past and present who have managed to defeat the dreadful
protectors of Excaliber and pull it from the stone.

[Q]uit Game
═══════════
09Just as it sounds this option allows you to exit Excaliber.

Hints and Tips:
09
Be sure and build farms early as much as possible. Serfs are your
biggest tax contributor and it is important to keep them well fed and
happy.
Knights are an important aspect to the game, but use them wisely.
Only after your have gotten to the point that you are producing more than
enough grain for your serfs should you build villages. They attract
serfs who will deplete your grain surplus.
Raise your taxes above 20% only as a last resort. Your serfs could
become unhappy and revolt. The higher the tax the more likelihood of a
revolt.
