The Daily Horoscope Version 3.4
Written by James R. Davis

For all of you who are familiar with DavisWARE doors in the past, this
should be a refreshing change from the old setup proceedure. Starting with
this program all doors I write in the future will be set-up this way. I've
taken out all the old switches you had to use before. Now all the
information that the program needs will be located in the included CFG file
that you should modify for your system. Modify the supplied DHSCOPE3.CFG to
your needs. It is commented and contains information not supplied here.
To set this program up as a door, modify the supplied DHSCOPE3.CFG and use
the command DHSCOPE3 DHSCOPE3.CFG at the DOS prompt. You can change the name
of the CFG file and include drive and pathname on the command line. The CFG
file should be able to determine what node you are running on and you
shouldn't have to make a different CFG file for each node unless you occur
problems. If the COMPORT variable is set in the CFG file, it WILL OVERRIDE
any comport that your BBS system passes to the file you set in the DOORFILE
variable. But if you use the DIRECT method (please read the comments
included in the CFG file), you must set the COMPORT variable. In such a
case, for multi-node systems using the direct method, using a 2 node
example, here's what it might look like for both nodes:
Node 1: DHSNODE1.CFG
CD C:\BBS\DOORS\DHSCOPE
DHSCOPE3 DHSNODE1.CFG
CD C:\BBS
Node 2: DHSNODE2.CFG
CD C:\BBS\DOORS\DHSCOPE
DHSCOPE3 DHSNODE2.CFG
CD C:\BBS
As you can see the possibilities are endless!
You will notice that any of my doors will allow you play them straight off
the command line just like a game... you don't need to have a BBS in order
to run any of my programs. To enter local mode from the command line, just
type DHSCOPE3... or if you want to really tickle your keyboard, you have the
option of typing DHSCOPE3 LOCAL. In order to do this however, you will need
to have a CFG file somewhere in the current directory. The one included
with this program is set-up for such a purpose. This program will require
your name to play when in LOCAL mode.
To get a parsed version of this DOC type DHSCOPE3 ? at the DOS prompt. It
will display the file called DHSCOPE3.HLP to give you a boost when you don't
feel like going through this entire documentation file!
Now this program also allows you to create several types of bulletins for
you to display whenever you wish, or put them up for your users to see, or
perhaps even force them on your users. It also contains a few other
switches to help you in customizing this program for your system. To create
bulletins of the complete horoscopes for all zodiac signs, use the following
switches:
/B=D:\path\filename - Creates a bulletin with all horoscopes in the
path directory, on drive D: as filename. Note
that you do not include an extension. If drive,
path and filename are not included, the default
filename will be DHSCOPE. and DHSCOPEG. in the
current directory.
/PCB - Will generate PCBoard color codes in the
bulletin.
/ANSI - Will generate two files; "filename" in ASCII
text and "filenameG" in ANSI color.
/NOASK - This switch will turn off the prompt that asks
users if they would like to see all of the
horoscopes. This switch is only active for
REGISTERED USERS!
/NOCAL - This switch will suppress the displaying of the
calendar, but only during remote operations. It
does not effect the bulletins generated from
putting the calendar within it. This switch is
only active for REGISTERED USERS!
/RAND - Using this switch allows the program to scramble
the order in which the sentences are displayed to
the user. Is does not generate a new horoscope,
since the horoscope is determined from the
positions of the planets, but it merely
rearranges the sentences within the horoscope
paragraph.
Here's some examples:
DHSCOPE3 /B=C:\BBS\BULLETIN\BLT99 /ANSI
Will create BLT99 in ASCII and BLT99G in ANSI on drive C: in the \BBS\BULLTIN
directory.
DHSCOPE3 /B /PCB
Will create DHSCOPE in PCBoard color codes in the current directory.
DHSCOPE3 NODE2.CFG /RAND /NOASK
Will run the program as a door, mixing the sentences each time with no
prompt to see all the horoscopes, using the NODE2.CFG configuration file.
If an error occurs during program execution a file named DHSCOPE3.ERR will
be created in the current directory and specify the error with a brief
description. Type this file if an error occurs to see what you may have to
change to fix it. If the error cannot be fixed, let me know exactly what
the file contains. If an error occurs and this file is not created, you may
need to change your set-up. But if an error occurs that gives you a
location number, please let me know immediately what this number is and what
happened prior to it so that I may be able to recreate the error.
For those of you who register this program I have some nifty little extras
just for you. For the regististration fee (see table below) you will
receive a serial code that you can plug into your program and you won't get
that nasty [UNREGISTERED SOFTWARE!] message anymore, as well as unlocking
the little extra features listed above, plus as an extra bonus is available,
a program that will allow you to go into the data file where all those neato
astrological sentences are and it will decode them for you so that you can
mess around and put whatever the heck you want into it... You can add your
own messages or change the ones already there. The possibilities for this
are endless. I know you don't want to pass this one up. And being the
loving soul that I am, for those of you who have already registered a
previous version of DHSCOPE, your registration is alot cheaper!
Registration Fees:
Multi-Node site license for nodes over 50 ....... $45
Multi-Node site license for nodes up to 50 ...... $35
Single Node/User system ......................... $20
Upgrade from a previous version ................. $15
(Please include registration numbers)
Now, to register, fill out the ORDER.FRM included. Also included is a list
of all DavisWARE programs available within the DWARE.DOC file with this
program. Make sure that all checks or money orders are made out to James R.
Davis and filled out in U.S. currency. You will find all the information
needed for registration in the ORDER.FRM file. If you did not find it with
this program, please inform me and I will send you one immediately.
I hope you all have fun with this one, and keep your eyes open for more
updates and new programs from me!
