DEVONSHIRE'S TAVERN
Version 1.0
11/28/96
Thanks for downloading Devonshire's Tavern. I hope that you and your
callers enjoy this door. I have put many long hours into it. Devonshire's
tavern allows your callers to leave up to 5 line messages for others
to read. Sort of like a Graffiti wall with a twist. It has been quite
popular on my board. The door only keeps the last 21 messages on hand
so callers don't have to spend so much time reading ancient messages.
Come on in, have a brew, enjoy yourself....
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
1 - IBM PC/AT or Compatible.
2 - Must be run under BBS software that uses DOOR.SYS for
a drop file. (Such as Wildcat!) If I get enough support
the next version will use other formats as well.
3 - You might need ANSI.SYS loaded to see the graphics on
the local display.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
Installation is easy!
1 - Make a directory for Devonshire's Tavern.
Mine is D:\DOORS\DEV
2 - Copy the contents of this archive to that directory.
The following files should be in your directory.
DEV.EXE........This is the Door
CONFIG.EXE.....This is the automated configuration program
DEV.CFG........This is the configuration file.
CONV.TXT.......The Conversation file
OPEN.ANS.......Display file
MENU.ANS.......Display file
SYSOP.DOC......This file
REGISTER.FRM...Registragion form
FILE_ID.DIZ....Description file
SAMPLE.BAT.....Sample Batch File
3 - Run CONFIG.EXE. This will build your DEV.CFG file.
Selection 1 - This will set up the door to work with your BBS.
A - First it will ask you for your name. This will
also be the name that credit is given to
for registering.
B - Next, it will ask you for the complete path
and FILENAME of your BBS drop file.
Example, This is my path,
E:\WILDCAT\WCWORK\NODE1\DOOR.SYS
4 - Make a batch file to run the door or modify the example
to suit your needs.
EX...DOOR1.BAT
D:
CD\
CD DOORS\DEV
DEV.EXE
5 - That's it! Devonshire's Bar is open for business.
FEATURES
Here's a list of some of the features built into this Door.
1 - Monitors for Loss of Carrier.
2 - The user is allowed to change his/her name when they
enter the Tavern.
3 - Maintains a database of only the last 21 messages so
callers don't have to read through ancient messages.
4 - Supports Comm1 - Comm4 Ports. Doesn't need a Fossil.
Reads current port from drop file.
5 - DIRT cheap to Register!
FUTURE VERSIONS
I plan on making the following changes to the next version.
1 - Support for other BBS drop files.
2 - Allow users to save messages in colors
3 - Add a few more options to the bar menu
4 - Support for Multi-Node systems
