USAGE:
------
This product is being distributed as FREEWARE. There are no registration
fees required for this product, although the program remains the property of
Lounge Software.
DISTRIBUTION:
-------------
You are encouraged to distribute DoorCount provided that all files contained
in the archive are distributed in their original and unmodified state.
DESCRIPTION:
------------
DoorCount is a simple utility that keep track of your door usage on your
WILDCAT 4xx BBS. DoorCount will create an ANSI bulletin displaying a
listing of your doors and how many times they have been accessed.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION:
------------------------
NONE! You do not need to register DoorCount...it's FREEWARE. But if you do
use the product and like it, then why not call Zippy's Lounge BBS and check
out some of our other BBS products?
REQUIRMENTS:
-----------
1. Like ANY BBS program, ANSI.SYS MUST be loaded in your CONFIG.SYS.
2. Dos 5.0 or later.
3. A WILDCAT 4xx BBS system.
INSTALLATION:
-------------
Installation of DoorCount is very simple. The first thing you should do is
move the files into whichever directory you plan to operate DoorCount from.
Unlike some door tracker programs, you do NOT have to put a call to an .EXE
file in every single DOORx.BAT file.
[1] Edit DORCOUNT.CFG to suit your specifications. The format for this file
is:
Zippy's Lounge <- BBS name
10 <- Number of doors you run
bull20.bbs <- Name of ANSI bulletin you want created
c:\wc40\bull <- Where you want the bulletin moved to
[2] Edit the DOORS.TXT. This is a listing of your door names. The format
is as they are on your BBS. Line 1 is door 1, line 2 is door 2 and so
on:
The Quest For Nora
Gangland Wars
and so on...
Be sure that line 2 in your DORCOUNT.CFG file is set to the same amount
of entries you have in the DOORS.TXT file or DoorCount will issue an ERROR
and abort operation.
If for instance you are running 20 doors and currently door number 10 and
door number 15 are not occupied, then enter something on that line like:
Door not in use
Out of order
Currently offline
Doesn't matter what you enter, DoorCount will display whatever you enter
and place a 0 for usage because of course, no one is using it, right? If
your DORCOUNT.CFG file says that you are running 20 doors, there MUST be
20 entries in the DOORS.TXT file!
RUNNING THE PROGRAM:
--------------------
Basically what DoorCount does is reads your ACTIVITY.1 log and counts the
total usage for each door configured. DoorCount will keep a running total
until you reset it. *IMPORTANT* If you don't delete your ACTIVITY.1 file
each night, the totals will not be correct. DoorCount does NOT look at the
date for each caller, all it does is total the door usage.
Here is how I have DoorCount setup on my system. I run it as a nightly
event. Since I DO delete my ACTIVITY.1 file every night, I just move it
into my DoorCount directory and run the program. Here's my .BAT file:
cd\wc40
move activity.1 c:\doors\count
cd\doors\count
dorcount
del activity.1
This moves the ACTIVITY.1 file from the WILDCAT home directory so a new one
will be created by WILDCAT the next time a user logs on, then it changes
into the DoorCount directory and runs the program. It will then delete the
unneeded ACTIVITY.1 file. If you are one who likes to keep your activity
logs, then you could always move it to another directory and back it up
somehow..that's up to you.
If you wish to RESET DoorCount and start the totals over from 0 then delete
these 2 files:
DORCOUNT.DAT <- Keeps track of all of the door totals
LASTDATE.DAT <- Keeps track of the starting date
