  15.                It was possible that the Classified Ads program would show as
  16.                registered, but the CLMAINT program (which uses the same CFG
  17.                file) would not.
  18.  
  19.                NEW FEATURE: Allow the caller to download a PICTURE file.
  20.                In most cases this would be a picture of the item being
  21.                advertised. If a caller would like to have a picture available
  22.                for anyone to look at, they would first notify the Sysop.
  23.                He/She would have the caller upload the picture. If the Sysop
  24.                wishes to make the picture available for others to download,
  25.                they would run the MMAINT program and EDIT that caller's
  26.                record to reflect the filename of picture file. This feature
  27.                requires an additonal registraiton fee.
  28.  
  29.                NEW FEATURE: Allows the caller to pay for his/her ad(s) by
  30.                Credit Card. See DOCS for more information.

  32.                NEW FEATURE: Added a colorized bulletin, in addition to the

  38.                NEW FEATURE: The Main Menu has an additional option called
  39.                NEWS. If the caller chooses that option a text file called
  40.                CLNEWS.TXT will be displayed. The Sysop can place pertinent
  41.                information, for example Classified Ads info, in the file to
  42.                keep callers up to date about the happenings with the Door.
  43.                The file MUST be called CLNEWS.TXT and if it is not found in
  44.                the CLASSIFY directory the NEWS option will display nothing.

  46.                Paid ads made visible thru the maintenance program, were not
  47.                showing up on the Bulletin until an ad was entered online.

  49.                Reports of intermittant 'Error 63: Bad Recor Number'. I believe
  50.                I have tracked this one down and erradicated it.

  52.                Added a new option to the CFG file. The option will allow the
  53.                Sysop to have a line of text displayed to the caller at the top
  54.                of the screen when entering or viewing an ad. The text is
  55.                entered directly in the CFG file and can be a maximum of 76
  56.                characters and if no text is desired the word NONE is entered.
  57.  
  58.                The CLASSIFY.CAT file has been changed. In the old file there
  59.                was only ONE security level that would control the VIEWing of an
  60.                Ad and/or the ability to ENTER an Ad. This has now been split so
  61.                that you can control the VIEWing and ENTERing of an Ad
  62.                SEPARATELY. You will have to update each category in the
  63.                CLASSIFY.CAT file to reflect the security levels. The DOC file
  64.                explain the new entries. Please read it carefully!
  65.  
  66.                When a caller chose option 1 on Main Menu, chose (S)hort display
  67.                and entered a date, they were then shown the Categories and one
  68.                was chosen. Instead of displaying the ads for just that category
  69.                the entire database of Ads were displayed. This only seemed to
  70.                happen if you were NOT using TOPICS.
  71.  
  72.                With the new PICTURE option comes a requirement to be able to
  73.                archive the picture files when you participate in the CLassified
  74.                Exchange. To this end a NEW file will be required to be present
  75.                in then Classified directory. The name of this file MUST be
  76.                CLEXCMPR.DAT. This file will contain the name of 2 BATCH files;
  77.                1 to compress the files and 1 to uncompress them. We have
  78.                supplied the CLEXCMPR.DAT file 2 BATCH files which you can modify
  79.                as needed.
  80.  
  81.                Added a new option to the CFG file. This option will allow the
  82.                Sysop to control whether to display ALL Categories (when using
  83.                Main Menu Option 1) or just those Categories that contain Ads.
  84.  
  85.                Added a NEW option to the CLMAINT program. This option will
  86.                allow the Sysop to Transfer ALL Ads in one Category to Another.
  87.  
  88.                Added a new option to the CLMAINT program. This Option will
  89.                audit the databases and show you the number of Ads and Messages
  90.                by Originating BBS as well as a grand total.
  91.  
  92.                Added a new option to the CFG file to allow the Sysop to force
  93.                the use of a caller's ALIAS rather than the normal BBS LogonName.
  94.                This option requires the use of DOOR.SYS as the
  95.                System file/Drop file. Please not that this will have no effect
  96.                on any previously entered messages or ads. They will still carry
  97.                the LogonName previously used.

  99.                When using TOPICS the caller is given the option of selecting
  100.                ALL ads in ALL Topics/Categories. This option was not available
  101.                if you were only using Categories. It is now available
  102.                regardless...
  103.  
  104.                This may sound confusing but... if a category was chosen,
  105.                associated Ads list displayed, an individual Ad displayed and
  106.                then return to select another category and the same category is
  107.                chosen again, the number of Ads associated with that Category
  108.                was NOT redisplayed in total.
  109.  
  110.                When using Option 2 (SEARCH) deleted Ads were being displayed
  111.  
  112.                The loading of databases at the beginning of the program was
  113.                taking too long (would take longer as the database grew) and at
  114.                times seemed to have even taken longer on nodes other than the
  115.                server node. The reason for loading was to get a count of the
  116.                number of Ads in each Category, so to this end we are now
  117.                creating and maintaining a separate file (CLASSIFY.CNT) to keep
  118.                track of the Ads in each category. Even though Classified will
  119.                keep the file updated, there will be times when it may become
  120.                necessary to recreate the file. To this end we have added
  121.                another option to the CLMAINT program. You would use this option
  122.                under any of three circumstances:
  123.  
  124.                  . Running CLASSIFY for the FIRST time
  125.                  . CLASSIFY.CNT File deleted or corrupted
  126.                  . You Add or Delete Categories from the CLASSIFY.CAT file
  127.  
  128.                You MUST use the new CLMAINT option if you are seeing this for
  129.                the first time!! You may run this option any number of times
  130.                without doing any harm..
  131.  
  132.                If you were NOT using CLTOPICS and you chose MODIFY or DELETE
  133.                from the main menu, the program would show you a list of Ads
  134.                from the last Category you accessed with giving you a choice of
  135.                category.
  136.  
  137.                The ORIGINATING BBS field of ALL messages was not being updated.
  138.                This caused the Audit function to report ALL messages as being
  139.                ~~Unrecognizable~~. All messages entered from this point on will
  140.                contain the name of the Originating BBS.

  144.          [v3.2] Another Error cropped up when entering a PAID AD. Never fails
  145.                 that it will never show up during Beta testing, only when you
  146.                 release it to  production :)

  149.          [v3.1] Error 52 (Bad File Number) when modifying a PAID ad. The Ad
  150.                 would be updated correctly, but the error would occur when
  151.                 writing the notification to the Sysop.
  152.  
  153.                 If you entered PREPAID ads into the CLMAINT program, CLMAINT
  154.                 would not allow you to review the PREPAID information if you
  155.                 answered 1 to the 'number of PrePaid ads' question. It was
  156.                 only allowing viewing if more the answer was greater than 1.

  158.                 Added a new option to the CFG file. This option will allow or
  159.                 disallow the use of HiASCII characters (ASCII 127-255) thru
  160.                 the keyboard.

  162.                 When entering or modifying an Ad, the ITEM, CONTACT and COST
  163.                 fields will not longer be changed to Upper Case letters. The
  164.                 Input will remain in the case that it was entered. This was
  165.                 changed to accomdate our foreign language friends.

  167.                 When entering an Ad there was no way to get to the 2nd screen.

  169.                 When you use TOPICS and the caller chooses a Topic, prior
  170.                 version(s) would display ALL Ads in ALL Categories associated
  171.                 with that Topic. In this version you will choose a TOPIC, be
  172.                 presented with the Categories associated with that Topic and
  173.                 you will choose the Category. The program will then display
  174.                 Ads ONLY associated with that Category. You will then be
  175.                 returned to the Topics Menu.

  177.                 Under certain circumstances, when using the Modify option, the
  178.                 program would error out with an Error 52 (Bad File Name)
  179.                 after saving an Ad you have modified. The changes were
  180.                 recorded successfully.
  181.  
  182.                 CLMAINT (CFG Setup) option adjusted to handle the new CFG
  183.                 option for HiASCII characters
  184.  
  185.                 Fixed some problems with the way the (A)ll Categories option
  186.                 (sub-option for Main Menu option #1) was being presented and
  187.                 handled. Originally introduced in Beta03.

  189.                 Under certain circumstances, if running PCBoard, the program
  190.                 would write a wrong record number to PCBOARD.SYs and it in
  191.                 turn would update the wrong record in the USER file. A really
  192.                 dumb mistake on my part. This has been in the program for a
  193.                 while and was just brought to my attention.

  195.                 If there were blanks after the Sysop's first name, in the
  196.                 CFG file, the CLEXCH program would not recognize that the
  197.                 program was registered.

  199.                 Added a command line switch to CLEXCH to allow a HUB Sysop to
  200.                 EXPORT ALL Ads without having to go to the CLMAINT program
  201.                 and use the export reset option. The switch is: /ALL
  202.  
  203.                 When attempting to Download the CLREADER you would be returned
  204.                 to the Main Menu, without any indication of a problem. The
  205.                 program was incorrectly reading the caller's response to the
  206.                 Compression question. The same problem may have occured if the
  207.                 caller was trying to download Ads.

  209.                 When uploading reply to an Ad read offline, the number of messages
  210.                 uploaded display was not lined up correctly. Also added a
  211.                 "Press Enter" message after the uploads are completed. Without
  212.                 it it was not easy to see the messages(s) displayed by the
  213.                 Classified Ads program.

  218.                 added new fields to handle changes incorporated in this
  219.                 release as well as preparing the files for future changes.

  223.                 There has been a report of an INPUT PAST END OF FILE
  224.                 Error #62, when running the Classified maintenance program
  225.                 (CLPURGE). Based on what I found wrong, I am surprised that
  226.                 others have not had the same problem. Perhaps that is
  227.                 attributable to the fact that the CLPURGE program normally
  228.                 runs in a nightly event.
  229.  
  230.                 On the Download menu, when selecting option 1, the caller was
  231.                 not being returned to the Download menu, but was rather placed
  232.                 in a loop, redisplaying the same prompt. This in effect made
  233.                 option 1 non-functional.
  234.  
  235.                 Fixed a problem whereby a user whose security level was greater
  236.                 than the security level you assigned to MODIFY (in the CFG
  237.                 file), would not be able to modify their ad. If the security
  238.                 level was equal to the one in the CFG they could modify the ad.
  239.                 This problem has existed for a while and just surfaced recently.
  240.  
  241.                 When caller first uses the door, their last-date-on will be set
  242.                 to 010180, instead of to the current date. Setting it to current
  243.                 date was confusing and when viewing ads they would take the
  244.                 default date (current date) and not see any (or very few) ads.
  245.  
  246.                 The EXCHANGE file name in the config file is now a maximum
  247.                 of 6 characters in length.
  248.  
  249.                 If you are using the Classified Exchange option, you will now
  250.                 be Exchanging MESSAGES as well as ADS!!
  251.  
  252.                 Added an entry to the CFG file to give the Sysop 25 characters
  253.                 of data that will be tagged onto the line containing the ORIGIN
  254.                 BBS name. This is optional, however I would suggest you use it
  255.                 to show your BBS telephone number. This would be very helpful
  256.                 if you are participating in the exchanging of databases with
  257.                 other BBS'.
  258.  
  259.                 Externalized all the Compression types and Protocol types. This
  260.                 means you will be able to use ANY protocol you wish. All you
  261.                 would have to do is add it to the PROTOCOL.DAT or COMPRESS.DAT
  262.                 files and create a small batch file for each and you are all
  263.                 set. See the Docs for more information about this option. We
  264.                 have supplied sample PROTOCOL and COMPRESS.DAT files as well
  265.                 as smaple batch files.
  266.  
  267.                 All keyboard input will require that you press ENTER to signal
  268.                 a complete entry. Prior versions used a 'hot key' concept, but
  269.                 we received overwhelming feedback that it was best to go the
  270.                 ENTER key route. Less confusing for the users and less
  271.                 susceptable to line noise acting as an ENTER key press.
  272.  
  273.                 Increased the size of the COST field to 25 characters.
  274.  
  275.                 You now have the option to change from displaying everything in
  276.                 COLOR or Non-Color. There is an option on the menu to accomplish
  277.                 this. The User record will carry the COLOR/Non-COLOR choice,
  278.                 thus the setting will carry from logon to logon.

  280.                 Added a CLEAR SCREEN at the start of the bulletin created to be
  281.                 displayed on your BBS system.

  283.                 Removed the 2 compression options (ARJ & ZIP) from the
  284.                 configuration file, since the compression choices are now
  285.                 defined by the Sysop via an external file.

  287.                 Added an option to the main menu to allow caller to download
  288.                 the Classified Ads Offline Ads Reader CLREADER directly
  289.                 from the Classified Ads Door. You must ensure that CLREADER.EXE
  290.                 and CLREADER.DOC exist in the directory, individually. We will
  291.                 compress it using the callers choice of compression method!
  292.  
  293.                 The screen that displays the summary of all ads, has been
  294.                 modified to remove COST field. This will make it easier to
  295.                 read (less cluttered).
  296.  
  297.                 When modifying the description portion of an Ad, the
  298.                 description lines will now be numbered.
  299.  
  300.                 When an Ad was entered into a PAY category, the person entering
  301.                 the Ad was not permitted to view, delete or modify it. This has
  302.                 been corrected, provided the caller has the proper security
  303.                 level to access the MODIFY/DELETE options as defined in the
  304.                 Configuration file.

  306.                 As the SYSOP, you can now enter Ads for others, by logging on
  307.                 normally and using Main Menu option #3. You will be prompted
  308.                 for the Poster's name. The rest of the data entry is the same
  309.                 for all callers. If the door does not detect you as the Sysop
  310.                 it will insert the name of the caller as the Poster.
  311.  
  312.                 "Registered" will no longer "flash" on the opening screen.
  313.  
  314.                 Any errors encounterd in the Category file will be identified
  315.                 by a line number and an Error number. The Error number will be
  316.                 explained in the DOCS.
  317.  
  318.                 Displaying the categories to callers was becoming a long
  319.                 process due to the number of categories that you could
  320.                 potentially create. If you had 100 categories it would take a
  321.                 number of screens to present all of them. To help alleviate
  322.                 this task we have developed a higher level of categories called
  323.                 TOPICS. You will now be able to group all your categories into
  324.                 TOPICS. The TOPICS will be presented to your callers whenever
  325.                 they choose to display Categories or whenever he program deems
  326.                 it necessary (ie: Entering an AD). When they choose a TOPIC only
  327.                 those categories that you have grouped under that TOPIC will be
  328.                 displayed. You will have to create the TOPICS file AND add the
  329.                 appropraite TOPIC number to each category line in the
  330.                 CLASSIFY.CAT file.
  331.  
  332.                 In prior versions all ads were purged based on a 'number of
  333.                 days to keep ads' value in each category definition in the
  334.                 CLASSIFY.CAT file. With this version we will use the 'number of
  335.                 days...' value to calculate an Ad Expiration date for all FREE
  336.                 categories. The Ad Expiration date will be calculated by adding
  337.                 the number of days specified in the Category file to the
  338.                 current date. This date is then carried with each Ad and all
  339.                 purging will be based on the date in each ad and not the
  340.                 category to which it is associated. In the case of ads that are
  341.                 added in PAY categories, the caller will be presented with a
  342.                 choice as to the length of time they wish to have the ad
  343.                 displayed. The choices will be (W)eekly, (M)onthly, (Q)uarterly
  344.                 and (Y)early. The program will automatically set the Ad
  345.                 Expiration based on the choice (W=7 days, M=30 days, Q=90 days
  346.                 and Y=365 days). The calculated date will be carried in each
  347.                 Ad same as it is in the FREE ads.
  348.  
  349.                 Added a secondary detail screen to each ad so as to allow
  350.                 caller to leave descriptions of up to 30 lines. The caller
  351.                 gets 10 lines on the main screen and 20 lines on the secondary
  352.                 screen. All detail lines will now accomodate 75 characters per
  353.                 line.
  354.  
  355.                 When the "Message(s) Waiting" message is displayed, it will now
  356.                 indicate the number of messages you have waiting.
  357.  
  358.                 When a caller leaves an ad in a PAID AD category, a message
  359.                 will be generated to the Sysop containing information about
  360.                 the ad. The message will be sent to the name you enter for the
  361.                 new 'Sysop Logon Name' entry in the CFG file. Any message
  362.                 waiting for you will be contained in the Classified Ads
  363.                 message base only.
  364.  
  365.                 A new option has been added to the CFG file to allow or not
  366.                 allow any of the Downloading options to be used.
  367.  
  368.                 Category limitation has been lifted. Will now handle UNLIMITED
  369.                 number of categories.
  370.  
  371.                 You can now accept payment for ads in advance. Once payment is
  372.                 received you can update the PREPAID file so that when the caller
  373.                 decides to enter an ad in a PAY category, their Ad will become
  374.                 VISIBLE IMMEDIATELY, rather than having to wait for you to make
  375.                 it VISIBLE manually.

  377.                 A new maintainance program has been introduced to combine a
  378.                 number of separate programs used in prior versions of Classify.
  379.  
  380.                 The Exchange program will only export Ads/Messages not
  381.                 previously EXPORTED.
  382.  
  383.                 The Bulletin, if you chose to create one, will not be recreated
  384.                 unless an Ad is entered or deleted. It was being recreated for
  385.                 every caller.

  387.                 Added "time left" display to Main Menu prompt

  389.                 A check will now be made to ensure that only legitimate
  390.                 Classified Export files are being Imported by CLEXCH. If a file
  391.                 is invalid, an entry will be made in the CLEXCH.LOG file with

  394.                 You can now control the categories you want to Export. This will
  395.                 allow you to maintain Local categories along with categories
  396.                 that are part of a network. It will also allow you to
  397.                 participate in more than one network.

  399.                 The caller will no longer be able to send a message to
  400.                 themselves.

  402.                 The Exchange program (CLEXCH.EXE) will now allow you to use the
  403.                 EXPORT option multiple times. Prior versions would overlay an
  404.                 existing Export file and you would lose the previously exported
  405.                 ads. With this version CLEXCH will add 2, randomly generated,
  406.                 characters to the name you supplied in the CFG file.
  407.  
  408.                 Added another option the CLASSIFY menu... an option to accept
  409.                 and process uploaded messages, created by the CLREADER program
  410.                 (offline ads reader) in response to posted ads.
  411.  
  412.                 Upgraded CLREADER (offline ads reader) to allow caller to
  413.                 respond to downloaded ads and upload the resulting message file
  414.                 to the CLASSIFY Door.
  415.  
  416.                 The DISPLAY option now has the option to choose the number of
  417.                 days, prior to the current date, from which to begin searching
  418.                 for new ads.
  419.  
  420.                 CLREADER has been enhanced to allow the user to reply to an Ad
  421.                 and upload the message to the CLASSIFED ADS Door. It will also
  422.                 allow the user to print a hard-copy of any Ad they choose. The
  423.                 CLREADER Docs have been changed as well.

  425.                 When the DISPLAY option is selected, the caller will be able to
  426.                 enter the number of days back from the current date from which
  427.                 to begin displaying Ads. This is in addition to the 2 other
  428.                 options (entering a full date or using the last-date-on).
  429.  
  430.                 The PROTOCOL.DAT file can now be made node-specific to
  431.                 accommodate using special information that is required for
  432.                 certain nodes and not for all nodes.
  433.  
  434.                 The IMPORT function for CLEXCH was very slow at times, dictated
  435.                 by the number of Ads in the Database and the number of Ads
  436.                 being imported. I believe I have found a way to speed things up.
  437.  
  438.                 Changed the Ad display prompt, "Caller Name" to "Posted By" and
  439.                 adjusted some colors in the ad header display.
  440.  
  441.                 Added a new option to the CLMAINT program to check for and mark
  442.                 for deletion any duplicate ads found in the database.

  444.                 In the Message Center, if you logon as the Sysop and chose
  445.                 option 2 or 4, they acted the same in that they showed the
  446.                 Sysop EVERY message. A change was made to distinguish between
  447.                 the 2 options and only show messages the Sysop entered if option
  448.                 2 was chosen and ALL messages if option 4 is chosen. This was
  449.                 the original intention of the 2 options but somewhere along the
  450.                 line it merged into one.

  452.                 New options added to CLEXCH.EXE if you are acting as a HUB
  453.                 in a Classified Ads network.

  455.                 Added support for the PCBoard /M version

  457.                 Re-vamped the Download section. Should make it a little easier

  472.                 When caller was required to enter a Category from the list
  473.                 presented, the program was allowing no input and defaulting
  474.                 to a random category. Now, if no Category is selected, the
  475.                 program will go back to the Main Menu.
  476.  
  477.                 When displaying the available Categories, the program would
  478.                 not display any Categories that the caller was not allowed
  479.                 to access due to the Security level for that particular
  480.                 Category in the CLASSIFY.CAT. This has been changed to show
  481.                 ALL Categories, but NOT show the Category number for those
  482.                 the caller does not have access to.
  483.  
  484.                 Certain places in the program did not stop displaying the
  485.                 Category files if the Categories were blank. It insisted
  486.                 on displaying all 340 Category entries.
  487.  
  488.                 New option added to Main Menu... DOWNLOAD ADS. You can
  489.                 download ads from ALL categories or indivually selected
  490.                 categories. Options to select from last date called or from
  491.                 a particular date forward. This will require a CHANGE TO THE
  492.                 CLASSIFY.CAT FILE. You MUST ADD another field to the Category
  493.                 file to indicate if you want the ads in EACH category to be
  494.                 DOWNLOADABLE (Y) or not (N).
  495.  
  496.                 Classified Ads supports either PKZIP or ARJ file compression.
  497.                 You must define which one or both in the CFG file. Please make
  498.                 the appropriate adjustment before running the door or you will
  499.                 encounter an Error 62 (Input Past End of File)...
  500.  
  501.                 Added a SETUP program to help in the initial setup or editing
  502.                 of the Configuration file. Just type CLSETUP and supply the
  503.                 required information.
  504.  
  505.                 When using the "Display All Ads" option off the main menu and
  506.                 you chose (S)hort display, the program would always return to
  507.                 the beginning of the ads list rather than pick up the display
  508.                 from the last ad you asked to see in detail. It will now pick
  509.                 up the list from the point of the last selection.
  510.  
  511.                 With this release you can now define those categories that you
  512.                 want to make 'pay-to-advertise' categories. The category file
  513.                 requires a new parameter to be added to each category listed.
  514.                 If you want a category to accept paid advertising then use a Y
  515.                 else use an N. If you declare a category to be a 'pay category'
  516.                 the caller may post his/her ad, but the ad will remain INVISIBLE
  517.                 until you make it VISIBLE thru the NEW maintenance program
