Franchise Football Computer Coaching Assistant v1.02
by Scott Snella

I. Warrenty
As always, there is none. I have made every effort to test and error check
this file (as I do with all programs I release). While I feel it is a
solid offering, I cannot guarantee that this program will do anything but
take up valuable hard disk space.
This program is provided as Freeware to all people running Franchise
Football. It is not crippled in any way (although there is a message
when it runs about registering FFBL - if it is not registered yet). If
you find this program useful, I only ask you to register Franchise Football
if you have not done so yet. This will enable us to continue to bring you
great BBS doors as well as other programs.
II. Features
Version 1.0 of the CCA is the first attempt at more aggressive playing
computer coaches. I feel that this is a success, although there are
several other features that could (and probably will) be added in future
versions.
Here is a list of the features in version 1.0:
1. Computer coaches buy all front office items, including
advertising, merchandise, promotions, and stadiums.
2. Computer coaches can and do change ticket prices depending on
the recent attendance figures.
3. Computer coaches will reject all trades (this is something that
can definately use improvement, but the intelligence needed to
accomplish it is tricky to code, so I have left it out for a
future version. At least players who propose trades to the
computer will not tie up players indefinately in the proposal.)
4. The computer may release players...typically older and less
talented players. As a bi-product of this, new "free agents"
will be created by FFBL to fill those slots, keeping the roster
full, and competitive.
5. Players on computer teams will now be trained.
6. The computer teams often juggle the positions of players, and
the starting lineup, due to injuries and improved players.
7. Money is deposited in the bank to earn interest each night.
Future ideas for the CCA:
1. Better trades, accepting and maybe even proposals.
2. Signing free agents from the "pool", rather than FFBL generated
ones.
3. Switching players roster slots to achieve a better lineup and
substitution regement.
4. Changing offensive and defensive setups to reflect the powers of
the team and the next opponent.
Any other ideas are welcome, you may contact me on the internet at:
aq239@detroit.freenet.org
or bg229@scn.org
Or you can netmail me at 1:332/129 or call Mos Eisley the FFBL/FBB support
BBS at 413-684-4266. This number may change in the not to distant future,
but at that time I will attempt to notify users by many different means...
we're not going out of business, just moving into new quarters :)
III. Bugs in Previous Version (1.01)
So far, I have found three bugs in version 1.01 (one of them
could cause the system to cease operating). The first bug, is that the
CCA would release empty roster slots (thus creating players with all "0's"
in the free agent pool)... I believe that is fixed.
Second, for some reason, when the CCA would release a player, it would not
clear the player record properly (sometimes it would leave the position
behind, keep some "1's" for skill scores, etc.). This caused a big problem
in some games (stopped them from working). I think it is fixed (notice I
say think).. if anyone runs across this version doing anything like that,
LET ME KNOW :). I think I backed into a solution that seems to work, but
the positions seem to only crop up once in a great while, so I may never get
the chance to see the same error.
Finally, I had to remove some of the roster manipulation routines because
they were for some reason (as yet unknown) causing the CCA itself to crash.
Rather than delay release of this update, I chose to eliminate them until
I have extra time, and can sit down to play with it more. These routines
only changed current players positions. It should not affect the Utility
much at all.
IV. Wrap Up
For installation instructions please see the file, README.1ST (but, I guess
you should have read that by now :)
