INTRODUCTION
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Welcome to BBS Football League v1.0, the latest release from Midas
Touch Software. This document has been prepared with the new player
in mind. It explains step by step by step how to play, with special
attention to features introduced in this version.
GAME INTRODUCTION
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Are you a Football Fanatic? Play this game and prove to yourself that
you could be one of the Greatest Football Coaches of all time...
This game is a simulation of an online Football League. You start out
choosing a name for your coaching persona. Later you join one of ten
leagues, and choose to coach one of thirty teams available.
After choosing your team, you may edit the team name, and you may
also have the opportunity to draft some players onto the team. This
becomes your team in all respects. You maintain the Roster, and you
also pick the offensive and defensive plays each game, which may lead
your team to victory.
During a game, you can pick from 80 offensive or 18 defensive plays.
However you only have 30 seconds to pick a play or your team will
receive a delay of game penalty. Using strategy and timing, you
complete either the first or last half of the game, with you opponent
playing the previous or following half. By the end of the game or the
following day, you will know the results of your coaching
decisions...
Three Preseason games are played first and do not count toward your
record. These games give you the time necessary to fine tune your
coaching techniques. You may then play a full season of 16 Regular
Season games.
The team and individual stats are kept track of, so that you can
compare your coaching prowess against that of your opponents. If your
team is one of the eight best, then you enter the Play-offs.
Finally, if your team survives Twenty-two solid days of football
action, then your team becomes the newest BFL Champions...
3
DAILY MAINTENANCE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Everyday that you log into BFL, a maintenance system may run. It
generally takes place when the first player logs into the game after
Midnight. The maintenance routines complete all uncompleted games for
each active league, and game statistics are compiled and recorded as
well.
Your SYSOP has several options with regard to the BFL Maintenance
process. We wish to simply warn you that some time has to be taken
with regard to this, in order to make this FOOTBALL SIMULATOR operate
efficiently. If you find this process to be taking up too much of
your time, please let your sysop know, and perhaps he/she may be able
to provide a remedy.
coaching persona and also configure the game
to your personal tastes.
JOINING A LEAGUE
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
LEAGUE STATUS
After you have completed a season, or when you first enter BFL, you
may join a league. Generally there are a number of active leagues
available. You will know which leagues are available because they
will be listed with a status of "## OPEN". The "##" is a number from
01 to 30 that represents the number of teams available for coaching
in that league.
If a team is listed with the status of "CLOSED", that means that all
30 teams have been filled.
Some leagues may not have a status listed at all. These leagues are
usually "INACTIVE". The SYSOP may have not yet activated these
leagues in order to save some space or to save on the daily
maintenance time required by BFL.
JOINING/STARTING A LEAGUE
If you join a league that has all 30 Teams Available, this league is
empty or awaiting a restart. If you restart a league, all 30 Teams,
and all 22 days of games, are generated on the spot.
CHOOSING A TEAM
Once the league is created then you are given a choice of which team
you would like to coach. Only the teams not already taken will be
listed.
You may notice that the Team Names are not those generally used by
the NFL. This is so that we may avoid nasty law-suits and such. If
the names are normal NFL names, then we are not responsible, the
SYSOP has edited them to suit his or her desires.
You may also edit the name of your team if the SYSOP has provided you
with that option.
This name may be edited when you wish by choosing <O>ptions in the
League Menu.
DRAFTING PLAYERS
If it is the PRESEASON, and your SYSOP has the league set to allow
it, you are given the ability to draft the players who will be on
your team. You are shown a number of players, and you just choose who
you think will best serve the position you are required to fill.
5
PLAYING IN A LEAGUE
You are expected to enter your league everyday for the next 20 to 22
days and coach your team in their league games. You may take
advantage of scrimmage games, and the online play book to develop
strategies necessary to win some games.
Remember that during the PRESEASON, no game results count against
you. Play your games until you master your coaching techniques.
Also, if you feel you are unable to play with any consistancy, please
resign from your coaching position to provide another player with the
chance to coach the team to the championships.
