In order to use VIEWPIX to see GIFs online, your system must have the
ability to display VGA graphics with a resolution of AT LEAST 640x480x256 in
color (or 640x480x64 in greyscale).
You'll also need a memory resident program that can intercept a download
data stream and display the graphic. One such utility is SHOWGIF. This
GIF utility needs to be configured for your system. See the SHOWGIF docs
for an explanation of how this is done.
After you've configured SHOWGIF, install it as a TSR (memory resident) by
typing "SHOWGIF /r". Now, call up your favorite communications program
and call this BBS. Enter the VIEWPIX door, choose "C" to tell VIEWPIX
how you would like your "preview" graphic to look, mark as many files as
you wish, and "V"iew (download) them. If all goes well, SHOWGIF will
intercept the data stream on your end and show you the graphic right online!
VIEWPIX sends the "preview" files with "unique" DOS filenames. You should
have a file in your download directory with an 8 character name ".GIF". This
file is actually a GIF image composed the way you told VIEWPIX to make it.
It can be treated as any regular GIF image.
If you need further assistance, contact the sysop.
