  54. UPGRADE Installations for ver 5.60, upgrading from ver 5.50, 5.51, or 5.52:
  55.  
  56. 1) Backup:
  57.     files in your database directory
  58.     files in your data directory
  59.     your .cfg files
  60.  
  61. 2) Having extracted the V56A3-1.ZIP & V56A3-2.ZIP to a separate dir, 
  62.    run the "INSTALL" exe as an upgrade existing installation and name 
  63.    the correct path to your actual VBBS dir. 
  64.    (your .CFG files will NOT be overwritten)
  65.  
  66. 3) Verify settings in Vconfig and change Channel 1 in CHANNEL.CFG to
  67.    reflect your modem port. (Base addresses and IRQ addresses are set
  68.    automatically)
  69.  
  70. 4) The INSTALL for 5.60, when used to upgrade existing installations,
  71.    copies ONLY the new .EXE files to your VBBS directory.
  72.    
  73.    It does NOT over-write any menus, script files, function blocks,
  74.    text files, or network data files.
  75.   
  76.    You may need to copy files or make some changes manually. <--------

  78.    File to consider replacing/editing: *.ANS *.ASC *.TXT *.PDM

  124.    The VGIX Support within VBBS is composed of two parts:
  125.      -Hard-Coded VGIX support
  126.      -VGIX support thru scripting
  127.    
  128.    Using scripts you can "make" VGIX do a great many things --
  129.    and most importantly -- do it interactively and quickly.
  130.  
  131.    One of the changes made to 5.60 to better support VGIX
  132.    has to do with the way menu files are accessed by the system.
  133.    
  134.    Assume the menu we want to access is called MAIN.
  135.    
  136.    Under VBBS 5.52, the sequence for "finding" a menu was as follows:
  137.    
  138.      Check Text Directory:
  139.         If MAIN.MNU exists, display it.
  140.         If not, then display either MAIN.ANS or MAIN.ASC depending
  141.         on user video preference.

  143.    Under VBBS 5.60, the sequence goes like this:

  145.      Check Script Directory:
  146.         If MAIN.V exists, execute it.
  147.         If not, do the following:
  148.      Check Text Directory:
  149.         If MAIN.MNU exists, display it.
  150.         If not, then display either MAIN.ANS or MAIN.ASC depending
  151.         on user video preference.

  153.    This allows you to activate a script, instead of just simply 
  154.    displaying a menu, if you wish. The script, then, should check 
  155.    $videomode and take the appropriate action. If $videomode = 3, 
  156.    then you are in VGIX mode and can do the VGIX commands which 
  157.    produce the iconfied menu you desire on the user's screen.
  158.    Many interesting uses for this are possible.

  160.    The combination of VBBS/VScript & VGIX is very powerful, and
  161.    very flexible.
