If you look at the rug(?) below the bishop puzzle, I think, it has a map
for the maze... also, if you use a "hug right wall" rather than left,
you'll get to the end of the maze faster.

Spider puzzle is easy if you follow the hints that the voice tells you.
Start any where but make sure where you are sending that spider doesn't
need to provide a spider to another spot. Hint 2 spots on straight line
after the 6th.

Re: Cake
The pieces do not have to be the same shape.
They do have to be contiguous.
They do have to be the same size (5 squares).
Have you tried making any of the pieces a straight line around the edge?
If you're only thinking in terms of blocks, that could be it.

Re: BISHOP SOLUTION - FOR REAL!!! (1 reply)
I have a codified solution to the bishop puzzle.
First off, realize that the bishops on the black squares and the bishops
on the white squares do not interact in any way. What I am about to
write is a set of instructions for the white squares. Once you have
done that, you will have to change the numbers 1-4 to 4-1 and repeat the
process with the black squares.
The grid is number/lettered as follows:
4
3
2
1
A B C D E
Black moves White moves
----------- -----------
A2->B3 E2->D3->B1
B3->D1 E4->D3->C4
B1->A2
D1->C2->E4 C4->E2
A2->C4
E4->B1
A4->C2->E4 E2->D1
C4->B3->A4
B1->E2 D1->B3->A2
D3->E2
You may now fall down and worship at my feet.

That file will not allow anybody to see the ending sequence, and does
not provide solutions to any of the puzzles. It is simply provided for
the benefit of those who have solved the puzzles and wish to show their

Re: Cake
Ok for the cake I start at the top right. you always need to get 2
shulls and 2 stones, then 1 icing. they all have to be touch each
other. after you get the first group (in upper right of cake) go and
get the ones below. Start with the (VERTICAL) skulls and start going
around from bottom left of cake to the top and you will solve it!

Re: abc blocks (1 reply)
OK -
1) You're trying to make a sentence. 3 words, horizontal. Which means
you don't have to make it read words up and down.
2) The sentence in question is given in the hint book.
3) I found that if I left the first column alone, shifted the second
once and the third twice, and then did the same again, the puzzle
half-solved itself. Again and it got to the point that a little
tweaking worked it out.

the rooms I don't have access to, and NO rooms I have to solve yet. I

SIG Topic: General Discussions
This SIG has been provided for the general discussion of The 7th Guest.
Want to throw in your two cents? Feel free to offer suggestions,
complaints, complements, and thoughts...
The only thing I ask is that exact hint information is not listed
on-line. We all hate the guy at the movies who is always telling his
neighbor what is about to happen. Likewise, some of us may want to
discover the answer on our own. So if you want to give an answer, go to
the /T7G-4 SIG where the exact solutions may be posted.
Michael Gater, Product Support Manager
/T7G-
Just wanted to point out the obvious. Without providing a game cheat, I
would like to make everyone aware of the hint book located in the
library.
After you visit a puzzle, you may trek over to the library and examine
the hint book. Since the hint book only addresses the last puzzle you
attempted, you should go straight to the hint book without playing
another puzzle if you seek help.
After playing a puzzle and visiting the hint book three times (for each
puzzle) you will find the puzzle has been solved for you and you may
proceed as though you completed the puzzle yourself.
The price you pay for this assistance is a drama sequence which can only
be seen upon finishing the puzzle (without visiting the hint book for
the fourth time). So, no solving, no drama.
However, you can still finish the game without solving all of the
puzzles on your own. That Microscope puzzle...what a doozie!

Re: Warping to the staircase.
Blackie, one of the members of our Technical Support Team has suggested
using the Sphinx board to warp to the main entrance of the foyer.
When you visit the Sphinx board, upon returning you will be placed at
the beginning point of the current room. So, if you have just left the
kitchen, rather than travelling around the staircase to the front door
and then turning around, you could simply visit the sphinx board for a
moment, then return to the game play. You will find yourself facing the
staircase, as though you had travelled across the room.
Thought this might help those who enjoy the gorgeous graphics, but get
impatient.

Re: Microscope Puzzle (4 replies)
Please note that I am providing hint information and NOT an answer.
The room which appears on the first floor map, detached from the rest of
the house, is the Picture Gallery. You will need to find a supernatural
means of getting there (and back -- no doors either way).
My suggestion is to find a "supernatural" piece of art. Since Trilobyte
packed the house with masterpieces left and right, I think it is fair to
also point out that the art piece you seek will not be located on a
wall.
I have addressed the Microscope puzzle in private E-Mail to Andromida.

Re: The Hint Book
You miss the piece of drama which follows directly after the solving of
the puzzle. So if you use the hint book to get past a lot of the
puzzles, you end up missing a lot of the game.
On the plus side, I'm glad Trilobyte had the good sense to realize a
person might have trouble solving each and every puzzle and provided a
way out. So if you miss one or two dramas, you'll still have an idea of
the story and can still enjoy the ending.

Re: Hint request for 7th Guest (1 reply)
I might come from a different time, but it seems as though you are
asking for the solution to the puzzle and not a hint or strategy. If you
really need the solution, just ask me in E-Mail, but I was hoping that
this area could be used to clue readers to avoid a lot of trips to the
library.
With that thought in mind, you should know that there are a number of
possible combinations, and that the resulting board will have one queen
on each row and one queen on each column.
In my own experience, I found working from the inside out to be easier
than working from the outside in. Also, alternating top to bottom or
side to side can provide less opportunities for conflict near the center
when placing queens across the board.

Re: supernatural art (1 reply)
Don't you hate it when you want some information and someone laughs
because you answered your own question without knowing it.
What FLOOR is the supernatural art residing on which takes you to the
detached room (Picture Gallery) you ask? I would say the first floor.
The Microscope puzzle is in my opinion Graeme's indulgence. There is no
winning pattern, and no way to pass it (aside from the hint book)
without a LOT of thought. However, that's probably what makes it so
challenging. I want to beat it. I will beat it. Of course I'm currently
0 for 23.
And you just know some people are gonna have beginner's luck -- make
some completely irrational move which turns the tide...I couldn't be
happier for them...

I LOVE that hint! (Grab your thesaurus). For those who are put off by
the second clue in the hint book, "Bashful nomad...", take Andromida's
clue and try to rewrite the sentence with the letters which are
available. The cans are grouped in sections which will represent words
when you have swapped the cans appropriately.
Well that sort of takes the romance out of it, but sometimes these
subtle puzzles can go right over our heads.
Everytime I read the final sentence I always wonder what the word values
would be for Scrabble (tm)...

The cards and the coins:
These puzzles are unique. The "hook" is flipping the object over in a
linear sequence. That is, working from one object to another which is
adjacent (or nearby) in a vertical or horizontal line.
If you've ever done one of those "connect all of these dots without
lifting your pencil" puzzles, then you know what I mean. (No diagonal

I think I will remember The 7th Guest as the only game to provide the
solution to its own maze. You will find a map of the maze elsewhere in
the game. Hopefully you can load a previous game (before you entered the
crypt) and find this map.
Mike
I will say however, that navigating the maze is a bit confusing, it is
best to think in terms of right and left turns rather than the usual
north, south, east, west terminology. Otherwise, you're liable to get
disoriented.

Hello Michael.
I would like to compliment you folks on this game. It's unbelievable. I
ahve a little problem in that I've solved all the puzzles except that
there seems to be a room on the first floor that I can't get to. I've
searched the entire house for secret passages and whatnot, but haven't
found a thing. I guess I should also tell you that I used the book in the
library to solve the puzzle with the Bishops (in Mr. and Mrs. Knox's
room). That was the only one that we couldn't figure out.
Anyway, I hope this was the right place to leave this. Great game! I saw

Re: T7G Hint Book
The "Hint Book" is a book lying on the table in the Library on the
ground floor of the house. When you look at the book, it gives you a
hint on the puzzle you last worked on. By the way, a fair number of
rooms have alternate exits that return you straight to the library.
Also, the book is on the coffee table, in front of the sofa. You will
get the "puzzle" icon when you are near it.
