  25. PURPOSE
  26. -------
  27. The purpose for writing this door was two-fold. First off, I
  28. was not impressed by some of the other Tape Doors I have seen.
  29. The second was that I have been wanting to write my own doors 
  30. for quite a while but just never got off my butt to do it :).

  32. I have found that I spent a lot of money downloading doors from
  33. long distance that I had hoped to suit my purposes and have found
  34. that most of these programs ended up in "file 13" because there
  35. were just so many things spread through many different programs
  36. that I wish I could have found compiled in ONE program.

  38. This Door is a VERY simple program to setup and run and your
  39. users will like the ease of it.

  41. If you like this program then PLEASE register it! If you register you get 
  42. rid of those annoying little screens and messages and you get to Restore/
  43. Download the FULL 8 Programs at a time instead of just 1.

  48. While reasonable care has been taken in creating this program, no warranty
  49. is made that it will perform the way you would like. You (and not the author)
  50. are responsible for any problems occuring due to this program. If you cannot 
  51. accept this responsibility, DO NOT run this program! However, if you should
  52. run across a problem, please contact the author so that it may be possible
  53. to fix the problem (see REGISTER.DOX for info on how to contact the author).
  54. As with any complex programs, bugs are possible even though the product has 
  55. been tested. To protect against this, you should be making regular backups.

  57. Note that this package IS copyrighted, even though freely available. You MAY
  58. NOT add additional files to the archive (although you may change the archive 
  59. type). Also you are NOT PERMITTED TO MODIFY any of the files for further 
  60. distribution. Modification for your OWN personal use is permitted.

  62. NOTE: This Software has only been tested with the COLORADO (Jumbo) Tape
  63.       Backup and requires that the TAPE.EXE (last successfully tested with
  64.       version 4.03/I can't guarantee earlier versions will work) software be 
  65.       somewhere in your PATH (refer to your DOS manual for info on PATH). 
  66.       Whether you use the 120M or 250M versions SHOULD NOT matter.

  68. NOTE: This Software uses the DSZ.COM/DSZ.EXE or GSZ.EXE programs to handle 
  69.       the Batch Downloads so the program MUST be in somewhere in your PATH 
  70.       (refer to your DOS manual for more info on PATH).

  72. A NOTE ABOUT THE SHAREWARE VERSION
  73. ----------------------------------
  74. The ShareWare Version Of StormTape ]I[ Will Only Allow The Restore/Download
  75. of 1 file at a time and will display "reminder" Screens. The Registered 
  76. Version Allows files 8 to be Restored/Downloaded at a time and REMOVES the
  77. "reminder" Screens. These is the only differences between the ShareWare and 
  78. the Registered Versions.

  81. INSTALLATION (or "It Just Doesn't Get Any Better Than This!")
  82. -------------------------------------------------------------

  84. 1) Create a Subdirectory in which to hold the Door Files.
  85.  
  86. 2) Unzip the Distribution File (ST3_xxxx.ZIP) into this subdirectory.
  87.  
  88. 3) Create a Tape that holds the Files that you wish to have available 
  89.    through the door. Files available MUST be in Volume 1! (For Now).
  90.  
  91. 4) Run MASTER.EXE. This program will allow you to setup the various files
  92.    that you will need to successfully run StormTape ]I[.
  93.  
  94. 5) Create the "TAPE.#" File(s). Check the example included for the 
  95.    format of this file. This is a standard ASCII text file and may be 
  96.    your "ALLFILES" list or anything of that nature. This is the file shown 
  97.    to the caller when they ask to LIST the files available on the Tape and 
  98.    is used for DISPLAY purposes ONLY! 
  99.    
  100.    NOTE: WildCat! Sysops - You can directly use the file listing(s) created
  101.          w/WCPro! Just create them using the name TAPE.A, TAPE.B etc. in the
  102.          StormTape ]I[ Subdirectory!

  104. 6) Create TAPELIST.ZIP by .ZIPping your TAPE.? Files into TAPELIST.ZIP.
  105.  
  106. 7) Add the necessary routine(s) to your batch file to access the  
  107.    door from your BBS. (See example Batch File Included).

  112. PROGRAM SETUP
  113. -------------
  114. Running StormTape Under DesqView/QEMM
  115. -------------------------------------
  116. Jim Hale makes NO guarantees that the door will work under the QEMM/DV
  117.      Environment BUT this HAS been tested and found to work. SO MANY people
  118.      have SO MANY different setups so the text presented below is for 
  119.      INFORMATIONAL use only! The TAPE.EXE software itself is what is limiting
  120.      the ability to work under DV or other MultiTasking environments. This
  121.      is not the fault of StormTape ]I[ but of the CMS software itself.

  160. Internal Downloading
  161. --------------------
  162. This program supports downloading from the door and supports the ZModem Batch 
  163. protocal (at this time), hence the DSZ.COM/DSZ.EXE or GSZ.EXE must be in your 
  164. PATH somewhere. (See above).

  167. SYSOP KEYS
  168. ----------
  169. As with all my BBS Door products, the following keys are available to
  170. the Sysop while a user is in the Door:
  171.  
  172. [HOME] - Shows the following commands available:
  173.  
  174. [UP ARROW] - Add 1 minute to the user's time.
  175. [DOWN ARROW] - Subtract 1 minute from the user's time.
  176. [LEFT ARROW] - Add 1 level to the user.
  177. [RIGHT ARROW] - Subtract 1 level from the user.

  179. F3 - Toggle Printer.
  180. F4 - Toggle Sysop Page.
  181. F5 - Shell to DOS (EXIT returns to the Door).
  182. F7 - Sysop Alarm (availability).
  183. F8 - Dump user back to BBS.
  184. F9 - Toggle LOCAL display.
  185. F10 - Chat with user ([ESC] resumes door)

  190. The source code is NOT for sale and is not available to the public (I may
  191.    change my mind if you slide me a Check/Money order for $10,000.) :)

  193. Some people may experience memory problems depending on the BBS software 
  194.    they run. The BBS should COMPLETELY switch out of memory if possible.
