QBBS2COA, Version 1.0
By James Hogan
(C) 1991 The Psychoic Elves From Hell
Written in Microsoft's QuickBASIC 4.5, (C) 1989
INTRODUCTION
As you probably already know, Catacombs Of ASCII doesn't read DORINFOx.DEF
(the user info file for doors used with QBBS, RBBS, RA, and SBBS), or any
other BBS's door info file...it reads its own file, DOORUSER.DAT. Therefore,
if you want to run Catacombs Of ASCII on a QBBS, RBBS, RA, or SBBS system, you
need some sort of program to convert your DORINFOx.DEF file to DOORUSER.DAT.
QBBS2COA does just that.
For more information on The Psychotic Elves From Hell, the people who wrote
this game, please read PEFH.DOC.
LEGAL STUFF
You may freely distribute QBBS2COA to anyone you like...friends, neighbors,
enemies, rival gangs, foreign spies, and so forth, including uploading it to
BBSes (and you are, in fact, encouraged to do so) as long as no fee is charged,
other than a reasonable copying fee...$5 or so at the most. This excludes
BBSes that have an access fee.
You may also do almost whatever you like with QBBS2COA, including editing it,
deleting it, filling your hard drive with copies of it, disassemble it and
put subliminal messages into it saying whatever your heart desires, or almost
anything else. What you may _not_ do is edit it and redistibute it, modify
any files in the archive, etc. (although re-archiving it in a different format
or putting an ad for your BBS or something in there is okay).
DISCLAIMER
James Hogan or The Psychotic Elves From Hell are not responsible for any
damage, problems, sickness, heart palpitations, spontaneous combustion,
shifting of the Earth's orbit, or any other sort of trouble that may arise
from or while you are using QBBS2COA. By using QBBS2COA, you agree to these
terms.
WARNING
If, while running QBBS2COA, your floppy drive begins emitting a strange green
mist, immediately seek shelter and cover head.
DISTRIBUTION
The following files should be included in this archive:
QBBS2COA.EXE -- QBBS2COA main executable file.
QBBS2COA.DOC -- Docs for QBBS2COA. You're reading them.
QBBS2COA.DAT -- Sample data file for QBBS2COA.
QBBS2COA.REG -- Registration/comment form for QBBS2COA.
PEFH.DOC -- Information about The Psychotic Elves From Hell
If any of these files are missing, then you have an incomplete archive.
Please call the BBS listed at the end of this file, or any support or
distribution BBS listed in PEFH.DOC foor a complete copy.
CONFIGURATION
To use QBBS2COA, you must first edit QBBS2COA.DAT. It's quite simple...here
is a sample configuration file:
C:\QBBS <----- Path to DORINFOx.DEF (without backslash)
C:\DOORS\COA <----- Path to your COA files (without backslash)
Y <----- Display remote players on local screen? (Y or N)
1 <----- Node number of board
SPECIAL NOTE: I'm not sure exactly how QBBS/RBBS multi-node stuff works, so
this function is basically a shot in the dark, meaning QBBS2COA may or may
not work on a multi-node system. Dunno...if you can, though, please try it
and find out, and let me know what happens. Thanks.
After you've done that, simply put a line in your batch file that calls up
Catacombs Of ASCII that runs QBBS2COA before you run COA. No command line
parameters are needed. Then you should be all set.
REGISTRATION
If you're a kind and generous soul who would like to register this program
and support ShareWare, then please print out QBBS2COA.REG, fill it out, and
send it along with $5 to:
James Hogan
3409 Shasta Dr. NE
Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402
Registration for QBBS2COA is completely optional. We at PEFH don't believe
in ShareWare you're forced to register, or outrageous prices. And we'll be
honest...for registering QBBS2COA, you get absolutely nothing, other than
that marvelous, wonderful, fantastic, ecstatic, warm, happy, elated feeling
you get from knowing you supported Shareware. Plus we will, of course, keep
track of who registers, and who knows. Maybe we'll eventually use your name
on a mailing list or something.
If you have a comment, suggestion, question, etc. about QBBS2COA, then still
go ahead and print out QBBS2COA.REG, fill it out, and send it to us. It also
doubles as a comment form.
If need be, I can also be reached at any of the following places:
BBS: (319)365-5815
CompuServe: 70524,1343
Thanks! Hope you find QBBS2COA useful.
