Dear Customer,
I wish you have fun using these fine utilities.
┌─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐
│ ■ Thx for your interest in JLUTIL, JLBANK, JLPLOT and TPGT. │
│ │
│ ■ Pls read the docs and the help files. I know - nobody would do │
│ that. But how should you know, which features are available ? │
│ │
│ ■ Pls backup important files. I know - nobody would do that. But │
│ how will you feel, if you need one and you have none ? │
│ │
│ ■ A crc is valid for more than one versions. It is valid for a │
│ range of versions like (x.00 to x.24) or (x.25 to x.49). If you │
│ own a crc for v5.00, you will need no new crc until you want to │
│ use v5.25 or higher. A crc is valid for 25 versions. │
│ │
│ ■ You are authorized to use these programs on a trial basis │
│ unregistered. Some options will run, until you used THE JL's │
│ more than 1000 times, some options must be registered to run and │
│ other options have special parameters or switches, which are │
│ available only in the registered version. To see something of │
│ this part of the world, you can request a test-crc. To get one, │
│ fill out COUPON.TXT and send it to me via netmail or to a │
│ distributor. But there are still differences between the test-crc │
│ world and the world of a registered copy of THE JL's. If you │
│ like, what you see, or if you use THE JL's on a regular base, │
│ fill out REGISTER.FRM. │

│ JLUTIL │
└────────┘
After running JLINST you have now a complete installed JLUTIL. Now
you should check some things.
Perhaps you start with the following steps:
1) Enter: SET JLPATH=_________ <- your JL-Directory
As you can see THE JL's must be in a directory, which is
specified with the environment variable JLPATH=. If the
homedirectory of THE JL's is C:\JL, the you must enter
SET JLPATH=C:\JL. The homedirectory of THE JL's can be
a subdirectory of GTPATH or located on the same or another
drive.
2a) Put this line also into your AUTOEXEC.BAT.
2b) Add JLPATH to PATH=.
2c) Add this line also into your AUTOEXEC.BAT.
3) Enter: SET GTPATH=_________ <- your GT-Directory (should be already)
4) Put this line also into your AUTOEXEC.BAT. (should be already)
5) READ GENERAL.HLP now and continue afterwards here
This file includes a list of THE JL's ErrorCodes. If eg. THE JL's
say: Can't open [...] (ErrorCode 23), then please look up, what
this error could mean and how you can solve the problem. Normally
you should be able to ship around all difficulties, but sometimes
it could be useful to ask somebody else. Then feel free to ask
Terry Dansey, Don Kelley, George Omoregie or Raymond Wood or join
the support echo E02/650.
6) Install JLUTIL.CNF, JLPLOT.CNF and/or JLBANK.CNF. JLINST installed
it already, but you should get a feeling, what you can change in
JL*.CNF files. Use a normal editor like QEdit.
JLUTIL.CNF is one of the most important files of THE JL's. Take
some time to understand each variable within *.CNF, which are
explained in GENERAL.HLP. Be sure that you have setup the LP=,
HP= and MP= variables corretly and that the logfiles are in the
directory LP= and the helpfiles in the directory HP= and the
messagefiles in the directory MP=.
7) Edit your GTMDIR.BBS and insert the MsgAreas, you specified
with M1=, M2= and M3=.
8) READ *.DOC.
THE-JLS.DOC gives you an overview about the features of THE JL's.
9) READ HISTORY.BET, which contains the newest changes
10) READ HISTORY.DOC, if you used an older version or if you are
interessted in the history of JLUTIL or if you want to learn
more about JLUTIL.
11) CD %GTPATH%
12) COPY USER.CTL USEROLD.CTL
You should save your userfile and perhaps the index file too.
13) COPY GTUSER.BBS GTUSER.OLD
14) QEDIT GTUSER.OLD
■ and change the Name to yours and specify SY as authorization.
15) COPY GTUSER.OLD GTUSER.BBS
Can you imagine, why this could be necessary ?
16) CD %JLPATH%
18) CD HLP
COPY ALLHELP.TXT + *.HLP
20) JLUTIL /HE
Read some of the HelpFiles. If JLUTIL tells you, that no help
is available, then please check, if the helpfiles are in the
directory HP=.
21) JLUTIL /SU
22) JLUTIL /CU
23) JLUTIL /CM ~ -P
24) JLUTIL /PM -E
25) JLUTIL /PM ~ -CP
26) JLUTIL /QU QUEST001.@JL
27) JLUTIL /QU QUEST002.@JL
28) LIST JLUTIL.LOG
29) LIST *.MSG in MSGPATH
30) JLUTIL /IL DTRSOPXIN -SUMI
■ this will take some time (10 min)
31) MMR
■ and read the files within the MsgAreas MCSUser & MCSSysop.
MCS is MAILBOX CONTROL SYSTEM and the MCS writes messages
to the user into the MsgArea MCSUser an messages to you -
the Sysop into the MsgArea MCSSysop, which is specified in
JLUTIL.CNF.
32) QEDIT LEVELS.@JL
33) LIST MO.HLP
34) JLUTIL /MO -A
35) JLUTIL /IP
36) JLUTIL /DEBUG
37) JLUTIL /HE /DEBUG
38) Now you have seen some of the features of JLUTIL and you
should be able to inspect the others by your own. Good Luck.
39) If you want to setup the colors of THE JL's read GENERAL.HLP.
┌────────┐
│ JLPLOT │
└────────┘
JLPLOT needs your actual JLCALL1.LOG. I have included an old one
from myself, but you should make your own by killing the existing
JLCALL1.LOG and running JLUTIL /DC -L. Please check this file and
update the other JLCALL?.LOG Files by answering the question at
startup with 'B' for both. JLPLOT terminates immediatly, if it can't
find these files.
Do the steps 1 to 19 (look at the part JLUTIL).
┌────────┐
│ JLBANK │
└────────┘
JLBANK is so easy, that you can learn much about it by running it.
Type JLBANK and look around. Be sure, that GTUSER.BBS stores your
name. Perhaps you have to do step #15 (look above).
Do the steps 1 to 19 (look at the part JLUTIL).
┌──────────────┐
│ REGISTRATION │
└──────────────┘
If you want to have a test-crc for a temporal serialnumber,
ask one of the distributors or me for one using the file COUPON.TXT.
If you want to register, read REGISTER.FRM for more details.
┌──────────────┐
│ SUPPORT ECHO │
