FWKCTEST(TM) Contents_Signature System Test Procedures
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This material is provided for testing purposes only.
This zipfile, FWKCT117.ZIP, should contain only six files:
FILE_ID.DIZ to automatically provide a file description when
the zipfile is uploaded to a BBS running PCBoard.
FWK_READ._ME <--< you are here.
FWKCS.COM this is the central program of the
FWKCS(TM) Contents_Signature System.
FWKCTEST.BAT an extensive test program, used in
quality control for FWKCS.
FWKCLEAR.BAT to clean up after running FWKCTEST.
REGISTER.DOC information on registration and on how to get new
copies of FWKCTnnn.ZIP and FWKCSnnn.ZIP.
To run this test, unzip FWKCT117.ZIP into a new subdirectory which
has a d:\path less than 20 characters long, make that your current
directory, and type FWKCTEST <enter> . Allow 2 Megabytes of free
disk space to run this test.
For legal information, see FWKCS /L . For special information
about distributing FWKCT117.ZIP, see "Distribution", below.
For terse summaries re functions, see FWKCS /*, /a, /d, /e, /1* .
FWKCS provides automatic, non_destructive testing of zipfiles and of
files. Non_destructive testing of zipfiles is becoming increasingly
important, because it protects the contents, structure, and
Authenticity Verification stamp of a zipfile. That AV_stamp is a key
protection which authors, BBS operators, and end users have against
the perversion of creative work into trojan programs: virus testing
programs usually do not catch trojans.
The two .BAT programs in this package, FWKCTEST and FWKCLEAR, are
used in quality control procedures before FWKCS is released. Run
FWKCTEST, and see some tests which FWKCS is required to pass.
FWKCS can handle zipfiles which contain a full IBM/MS DOS tree of
subdirectories, using only a single subdirectory as its work area.
The reason why this test needs to be run in a subdirectory which
does not have a long d:\path, is to leave room for preparing the
test files which are used, not for running FWKCS itself.
FWKCS can also handle self_extracting zipfiles, full_size and
junior.
See for yourself: non_destructive zipfile testing is here, and it
works!
FWKCS can do that testing for you automatically, and also handles
plain files.
And after you finish running FWKCTEST, you can clean up just by
running FWKCLEAR.
The Next Step:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When you are ready to take the step to non_destructive zipfile
testing, you can download a copy of FWKCS117.ZIP (note the CS, not
CT) from The Invention Factory, as a no_fee download on your first
call. The I.F. has 44 nodes, which variously can handle up to 19,200
bits/sec.
generic 2400 bits/sec 212-431-1194 N 8 1
Hayes (19.2K) (nominal 9600) 212-431-4508 N 8 1
USR (19.2K) (nominal 9600) 212-274-8390 N 8 1
CompuCom (19.2K) (nominal 9600) 212-274-1243 N 8 1
After you download FWKCS117.ZIP,
first make an empty subdirectory,
MD TEMPDIR <enter>
then do PKUNZIP FWKCS117.ZIP TEMPDIR <enter>
CD TEMPDIR <enter>
INSTALL <enter>
and then follow the instructions on the screen.
FWKCS is available as shareware: it is not free. You may test it for
up to 30 days before you decide whether to register. Instructions on
registration are provided in the file REGISTER.DOC.
FWKCS is used with programs listed below; if you are missing any
of them, they are all available from The I.F. as no_fee downloads
on your first call (ZIP2EXE is used only in FWKCTEST):
Ben Baker's QSORT, Version 3.20.
Phil Katz's PKZIP(R), PKUNZIP(R), and ZIP2EXE; Version 1.10 or later,
(distributed by PKWARE in PKZ110.EXE, etc., self_extracting).
McAfee's SCAN.
Vernon Buerg's LIST.
Distribution:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Except as noted below, the only permission to pass this zipfile to
others is that which is set forth in the author's AVEXTRA.TXT,
which is automatically displayed following his AV_stamp. If the
author's AV_stamp is gone from this package, then the permission
to disseminate this material is gone.
There is one exception: if SALT AIR BBS, home BBS for PCBoard, has
received a copy from a reputable uploader and has inadvertently
removed the author's AV_stamp, SALT AIR has permission to pass
this zipfile on to all of SALT AIR's users for testing.
If you need a new copy of FWKCT117.ZIP, with its AV_stamp intact
so that you can pass it on to others, you can get that zipfile
from The I.F., too.
Note:
~~~~~
In FWKCTEST.BAT, two abbreviations are used to refer to companies:
IBM = International Business Machines Corporation.
MS = Microsoft Corporation.
