INTRODUCTION
--------------
Welcome to File Scan Later Version 1.12 File Scan Later is a
utility that when used in conjunction with WILDCAT! 4.xx OR 3.xx
and TRANSCAN, allows the WILDCAT 4.xx OR 3.xx BBS user to choose
whether his/her uploads should be scanned with them online, or
after they log off of the BBS. File Scan Later MAY be compatible
with some other file scanning programs. To be sure, the only way
would be to set it up and try it, however all FSCANL8R.EXE
requires is that the file scanner supports OFFLINE SCANNING via
a LIST FILE. We will help you out with the set up of File Scan
Later & Transcan in this document, but if you need help setting
it up with another scanning program you must call our support
BBS and communicate with the SysOp. For more information read
the section in this document titled "SETTING UP FILE SCAN LATER
WITH OTHER SCANNERS".

REGISTRATION
--------------
File Scan Later is released to the public as SHAREWARE! This is
the idea that a user can use a program for a pre defined amount
of time to determine whether the software fits their needs. At
the end of this 30 day allowed time period the user MUST either
pay the registration fee for the program and become a REGISTERED
user, or DISCONTINUE it's use entirely and REMOVE it from their
computer system. I have put countless hours of work into the
development of File Scan Later, and deserve some payment for my
efforts. I decided that $15.00 is a good price for what File
Scan Later does, and the time saved your online users. This in
turn makes YOUR BBS more enjoyable for your users, and saves time
that other users could be using on your system. So PLEASE
REGISTER it so that I can register my copy of TRANSCAN and be a
good SysOp.

COMMAND LINE OPTIONS
----------------------
File Scan Later has some command line options which are optional
and others which are required for File Scan Later to function
properly. The command line options valid for File Scan Later are
listed below. The use of the "/" FORWARD SLASH in front of the
command line option is NOT RECCOMENDED.
FSCANL8R.EXE
--------------
FSCANL8R.EXE has some command line parameters that need to
be passed to it. Some of these parameters will not be
needed and are provided only in a last chance effort to get
File Scan Later to work on your system. The following list
of parameters will also tell you under what circumstances
the switch will be needed.
NODE1.CFG - Example name of .CFG you will be using
with FSCANL8R.EXE substitute your .CFG
file name. (MUST HAVE)
LOCAL - Forces File Scan Later to run In LOCAL
mode. (USE ONLY WHEN TESTING LOCALLY)
NETWORK - Forces file sharing to be active if you
are using something OTHER THAN SHARE.
(USE ONLY ON A NETWORK WHEN DOS's
SHARE.EXE IS NOT IN MEMORY)
IRQ=n - Lets you change the IRQ of the COM PORT
specified in your WILDCAT 3.xx DOOR.SYS
file. (SEE CHART BELOW)
LOCKED:xxxx Forces File Scan Later to LOCK the
modem at the given speed. Also
referred to as LOCKING THE COM PORT
choices are 1200/2400/4800/9600/19200
38400/115200 (THIS OPTION SHOULD
ONLY BE USED WITH MODEMS THAT HAVE A
BUFFERED 16550 UART. 16450 OR
EQUIVALENT UARTS SHOULD NOT USE THIS
OPTION)
DOORSYS - Forces File Scan Later into DOOR.SYS
mode (NORMALLY NEVER NEEDED. BUT IF YOU
CAN NOT GET FILE SCAN LATER TO WORK
PROPERLY WITHOUT THIS SWITCH TRY IT)
File Scan Later 1.12
Documentation - Page 6
PS2 - Forces the PS/2 IRQ's and Addresses if
a PS/2 is NOT DETECTED (NORMALLY IT IS
DETECTED, BUT IF THERE IS A PROBLEM
RUNNING ON A PS/2 AND YOU HAVE NOT
TRIED THIS SWITCH TRY IT)
ADDR=&Hnnnn - Lets you change the address used for
the COM PORT specified in your
WILDCAT 3.xx DOOR.SYS file.(SEE CHART
BELOW OF STANDARD IRQ'S BELOW)
NON PS/2
Com Port IRQ Address
1 4 &H3F8
2 3 &H2F8
3 4 &H3E8
4 3 &H2E8
5-8 4 &H3F8
PS/2
Com Port IRQ Address
1 4 &H3F8
2 3 &H2F8
3 3 &H3220
4 3 &H3228
5 3 &H4220
6 3 &H4228
7 3 &H5220
8 3 &H5228
FILENAME - This is the DRIVE:\PATH\PATH\FILENAME
to the file to be delayed or scanned.
This is the information that will also
be passed to TRANSCAN in the scan later
list. EXAMPLE C:\UPLOADS\TEST1.ZIP
(THIS COMMAND MUST APPEAR ON THE LINE
TO START FSCANL8R.EXE AND IS PASSED AS
THE WILDCAT 4.xx & 3.xx %1 VARIABLE IN
THE SCANFILE.RUN FILE)
NOTE: WHEN USING THE IRQ=n OR THE ADDR=&Hnnnn COMMAND LINE
SWITCH YOU MUST USE BOTH COMMAND LINE SWITCHES. USE
OF JUST ONE WILL NOT WORK!

SETTING UP FILE SCAN LATER WITH TRANSCAN
------------------------------------------
File Scan Later was written specifically for use with WILDCAT!
4.xx OR 3.xx and TRANSCAN. Any version of TRANSCAN that supports
the TS.LST postcall file scan list, or similar named list file
with one file listed per line as appears in the following
example.
TS.LST (EXAMPLE FILE)
C:\UPLOAD\TEST1.ZIP
C:\UPLOAD\TEST2.ZIP
C:\UPLOAD\TEST3.GIF
C:\UPLOAD\TEST4.GIF
etc...
etc...
THE FSCNINST PROGRAM
----------------------
Your archived copy of File Scan Later should have been
packed with a file called FSCNINST.EXE . This program is
the INSTALL PROGRAM for use with TRANSCAN. It may also be
used as an aid to install File Scan Later with other file
scanning packages, but you MUST know the equivalent of what
it asks for from TRANSCAN to your file scanning package.
Lets assume you are using TRANSCAN and the FSCNINST program
to do a basic install of your system. In this case you
would unpack the archive into your WILDCAT! 4.xx home
directory (EXAMPLE: C:\WILDCAT\) your WILDCAT! 3.xx home
directory (EXAMPLE: C:\WC30\), OR a directory specifically for
File Scan Later (EXAMPLE: C:\WC30\FSCANL8R\) change to this
directory and run FSCNINST.EXE from that directory. FSCNINST
will ask you if you want to make a CUSTOM COLOR setup for your
BBS choose yes or no, for a list of the valid colors see the
chart below included at the description for the FSCANL8R.CLR
file. When/if you return to the main install of FSCNINST,
FSCNINST will prompt you for all of the vital information
about your system giving some explanation of what is going
on along the way. From here all you have to do is follow
the directions carefully, and make sure you do not miss type
anything and FSCNINST will not only CREATE the correct files
for you, but it will put them where it feels they belong in
your system for proper operation. The files that FSCNINST
will create are listed below in the order of creation
during the install. For Specific information about each file
you will either have to run the FSCNINST program and see
what it tells you, or reference the specific outlines for
each of these files in the MANUAL INSTALL portion of this
documentation.

FILES CREATED BY FSCNINST.EXE
-------------------------------
FSCANL8R.CLR - File that tells File Scan Later
your CUSTOM color setup.
xxxxxxxx.CFG - File that tells File Scan Later
About your BBS
SCANFILE.BAK - Your old SCANFILE.BAT file if
it exists, or your old
SCANFILE.RUN file if it exists.
THIS FILE WILL NOT BE CREATED
IF A SCANFILE.BAT/RUN FILE IS
NOT FOUND ON YOUR SYSTEM.
SCANFILE.RUN - Your NEW file that is called
just after an upload finishes.
Starts File Scan Later on the
CURRENT upload.
POSTCALL.BAK - Your old POSTCALL.BAT file if
it exists, or your old
POSTCALL.RUN file if it exists.
THIS FILE WILL NOT BE CREATED
IF A POSTCALL.BAT/RUN FILE IS
NOT FOUND ON YOUR SYSTEM.
POSTCALL.RUN your NEW file that is called
just after a user logs off of
the BBS. Starts TRANSCAN
testing any file found in the
TS.LST file (see TRANSCAN DOCs)
NOTE: ON MULTI-NODE BBS'S THERE WILL BE MORE
THAN ONE .CFG FILE CREATED IN THE HOME
DIRECTORY OF WILDCAT! AND ONE OF EACH
OTHER FILE IN THE ABOVE LIST IN EACH
NODE DIRECTORY!
SETTING UP MANUALLY
---------------------
Although it would be nice if the FSCNINST program was perfect (A
PROGRAMMING NIGHTMARE), It is NOT. There may be a reason to set
up File Scan Later manually. It really is no more difficult to
set up than an online door since it basically IS an online door.
I have tried to make this manual install as simple as possible
and if you follow the steps that I will give you here it should
File Scan Later 1.12
Documentation - Page 9
work perfectly for you. The examples I will give will be in
reference to a DEFAULT WILDCAT 4.xx & WILDCAT 3.xx file tree.
C:\WC30\ C:\WILDCAT\
WCWORK\ WCWORK\
NODE1\ OR NODE1\
WILDCAT 3.xx NODE2\ WILDCAT 4.xx NODE2\
NODE3\ NODE3\
ETC. ETC.
FILES NEEDED BY FSCANL8R.EXE
------------------------------
File Scan Later needs certain files to operate properly, below
is a list of files needed for the proper operation of File
Scan Later. As you read through this just make sure that
each file explained below exists in the directory on your
WILDCAT 4.xx OR 3.xx BBS system that is the equivalent of
the example. If you install on a drive other than C: make
sure you replace your drive letters with the ones that
reflect your system.
FSCANL8R.EXE
--------------
The FSCANL8R.EXE file is the executable program. Of
course you MUST HAVE this file in order to use File
Scan Later. This file should exist in your WILDCAT 4.xx
HOME DIRECTORY C:\WILDCAT\ OR your WILDCAT 3.xx
HOME DIRECTORY C:\WC30\
FSCANL8R.KEY
--------------
The FSCANL8R.KEY file is the key to your door. File
Scan Later CANNOT WORK without a VALID REGISTERED, OR
SHAREWARE FSCANL8R.KEY file. If you are missing this
file or your SHAREWARE .KEY file has expired you will
get an error displayed on the screen, and written to
a file called FSCANL8R.ERR, the error file for File
Scan Later. Then File Scan Later will ABORT, your file
will be scanned immediately and the user will be
returned to the BBS. For more info see the part
of the document FILE SCAN LATER ERRORS! This file
should exist in your WILDCAT 4.xx HOME DIRECTORY
C:\WILDCAT\ OR in your 3.xx HOME DIRECTORY C:\WC30\ DO
NOT MAKE ANY MODIFICATIONS TO THIS FILE! DOING SO IS
VERY LIKELY TO CORRUPT THIS FILE, IN WHICH CASE YOU WILL
NEED A NEW ONE!
File Scan Later 1.12
Documentation - Page 10
Configuration File (NODEn.CFG)
--------------------------------
My configuration file is called NODE1.CFG but you can
use any valid dos filename. The NODE1.CFG file tells
File Scan Later important information about your BBS,
and about the file that will be scanned during each
session. Below is an outline of what FSCANL8R.EXE needs
to find on each line of this configuration file. On
MULTI-NODE BBS's there MUST be a different configuration
file for each node, which is why I call mine NODE1.CFG.
ALL .CFG files use the same format, and ALL
configuration files MUST EXIST in the same directory as
FSCANL8R.EXE which is your WILDCAT 4.xx HOME DIRECTORY
C:\WILDCAT\ OR your 3.xx HOME DIRECTORY C:\WC30\ My
NODE1.CFG file example looks like the file
below.
EXAMPLE NODE1.CFG file for WILDCAT 4.xx
C:\WILDCAT\WCWORK\NODE1\DOOR.SYS «---line 1
The It's A Free Country BBS «---line 2
Nick «---line 3
Piel «---line 4
C:\WILDCAT\WCWORK\NODE1\SCANFILE.BAD «---line 5
C:\WILDCAT\TRANSCAN\TS.LST «---line 6
YES «---line 7
PASS «---line 8
EXAMPLE NODE1.CFG file for WILDCAT! 3.xx
C:\WC30\WCWORK\NODE1\DOOR.SYS «---line 1
The It's A Free Country BBS «---line 2
Nick «---line 3
Piel «---line 4
C:\WC30\WCWORK\NODE1\SCANFILE.BAD «---line 5
C:\WC30\TRANSCAN\TS.LST «---line 6
YES «---line 7
PASS «---line 8
Line 1: Is the DRIVE:\PATH\PATH\FILENAME to your
DOOR.SYS file for the node that this
configuration file is made for. With WILDCAT!
4.xx this line will be
C:\WILDCAT\WCWORK\NODEn\DOOR.SYS
OR 3.xx this line will be
C:\WC30\WCWORK\NODEn\DOOR.SYS where n= the
number of the node the file is made for. This
DOOR.SYS file is VERY IMPORTANT and MUST be
included because it supplies File Scan Later
File Scan Later 1.12
Documentation - Page 11
with the COM PORT information for that node.
The DOOR.SYS file is created in the node
directory by WILDCAT! whenever WILDCAT! SHELLS
OUT to do ANYTHING during operation.
Line 2: Is the name of your BBS
Line 3: Is the SysOp's FIRST NAME (DO NOT PUT FIRST AND
LAST NAMES ON THE SAME LINE)
Line 4: Is the SysOp's LAST NAME (DO NOT PUT FIRST AND
LAST NAMES ON THE SAME LINE)
Line 5: Is the DRIVE:\PATH\PATH\FILENAME to WILDCAT's
SCANFILE.BAD file. The existence of this
file after returning to WILDCAT! from a file
scan informs WILDCAT! if the file FAILED, OR
PASSED the test. If WILDCAT! finds the
SCANFILE.BAD file in the node directory of the
node that performed the scan when control is
returned the file scan will be FAILED! If the
SCANFILE.BAD file does NOT exist when WILDCAT!
resumes the scan will be PASSED! This file
should be found in the WILDCAT 4.xx
C:\WILDCAT\WCWORK\NODEn\ OR 3.xx
C:\WC30\WCWORK\NODEn\ directory ONLY WHEN A SCAN
IS FAILED! My example is as follows
WILDCAT! 4.xx
C:\WILDCAT\WCWORK\NODE1\SCANFILE.BAT
OR WILDCAT! 3.xx
C:\WC30\WCWORK\NODE1\SCANFILE.BAD
Line 6: Is the DRIVE:\PATH\PATH\FILENAME to the TRANSCAN
list file of files to be scanned after log off.
The version of TRANSCAN this program was written
with calls this file TS.LST This file will
exist in the directory you have TRANSCAN set up
in. On my system I have TRANSCAN set up in its
own directory under my WILDCAT! 4.xx HOME
DIRECTORY C:\WILDCAT\TRANSCAN\TS.LST OR 3.xx
HOME DIRECTORY C:\WC30\TRANSCAN\TS.LST this is
the location that File Scan Later will create
your TS.LST file, or whatever file name you
provide on this line and should be set to create
this file in the directory where your file
scanner lives.
Line 7: Is the line that contains the switch for
activating the goodbye scan option in File Scan
Later. This line shoud have a "YES" to allow
File Scan Later 1.12
Documentation - Page 12
callers to logoff and allow scanning IMMEDIATELY
after an upload, OR "NO" to disable feature.
Line 8: Is the line that tells File Scan Later if you
want the files delayed for testing after log off
PASSED OR FAILED when returning to WILDCAT! If
this line has the word PASS on it, ALL of the
files that the user online chooses to be scanned
after their log off will be reported to WILDCAT
as having PASSED the scan, and INSTANT CREDIT
will be granted for the upload. PASS is my
recommended setting because WILDCAT! will update
the users record with the upload credit
instantly and if the file actually FAILS the
scanning process it is easier to subtract
credits from a WILDCAT! user record than it is
to add them later. If this line has the word
"FAIL" on it, ALL of the files that the user
online chooses to be scanned after their log off
will be reported to WILDCAT! as having FAILED
the scan, and NO CREDIT WILL BE GIVEN! This is
like the user never made an upload, which in
turn means the SysOp MUST ADD ALL CREDITS and
remember to change the FAILED FLAG on each file
in the WILDCAT! file database before the file
can be displayed for download. I don't know why
you would want to set it to FAIL but it is
there, and you can do it. MULTI-NODE BBS's may
also set any node to PASS OR FAIL on a per node
basis by making the configuration file for one
node have one setting, and the configuration
file for another node have the other setting.
Line 8 MUST be set to either PASS or FAIL in
each node's configuration file.
SCANFILE.RUN
--------------
This is the file called by WILDCAT! just after someone
makes an upload, there is also some WILDCAT! 4.xx & 3.xx
systems set up that use the same exact file but it is
named SCANFILE.BAT. Look over your system first
looking in the WILDCAT! HOME DIRECTORY for either of the
files SCANFILE.RUN OR SCANFILE.BAT , if you find either
one in your HOME DIRECTORY back them up to different
file names and DELETE the SCANFILE.BAT and SCANFILE.RUN
files from this directory. Then change into the NODE
DIRECTORY for EACH NODE on your WILDCAT! BBS and check
for the existence of the same files SCANFILE.BAT &
SCANFILE.RUN. If they exist in your NODE DIRECTORY's
File Scan Later 1.12
Documentation - Page 13
back them up to different file names also and DELETE
the SCANFILE.BAT file. Then edit your SCANFILE.RUN file
and if you don't have one, create one. Follow the
outline below. If you are using WILDCAT! 4.xx you MUST
also REMOVE the SCANFILE.BAT & SCANFILE.RUN files from
your BATCH FILE DIRECTORY! A SCANFILE.RUN file should
exist in EACH NODE DIRECTORY ONLY, AND NOWHERE ELSE ON
THE SYSTEM!!! If you have post-uploading software that
will still need to be run in this file you should place
the commands that run your other program either BEFORE
OR AFTER what we tell you MUST have in this file.
DO NOT SEPARATE and stick your commands in the middle of
this two line set of commands we will outline below.
If the command to start TRANSCAN "TS %1" exists in your
SCANFILE.RUN file REMOVE THIS LINE. A SCANFILE.RUN file
for WILDCAT! 4.xx C:\WILDCAT\WCWORK\NODE1\SCANFILE.RUN
& WILDCAT! 3.xx C:\WC30\WCWORK\NODE1\SCANFILE.RUN file
is outlined below.
WILDCAT 4.xx C:\WILDCAT\WCWORK\NODE1\SCANFILE.RUN file
FSCANL8R NODE1.CFG LOCKED:19200 %1 «--- line 1
IF EXIST C:\WILDCAT\FSCANL8R.BAT CALL C:\WILDCAT\FSCANL8R.BAT
^--- line 2
WILDCAT 3.xx C:\WC30\WCWORK\NODE1\SCANFILE.RUN file
FSCANL8R NODE1.CFG LOCKED:19200 %1 «--- line 1
IF EXIST C:\WC30\FSCANL8R.BAT CALL C:\WC30\FSCANL8R.BAT
^--- line 2
Line 1: This line runs the File Scan Later program with
the configuration file you specify, whatever
other command switches you need to add to the
command line in order to run with your hardware,
and the %1 variable passed by WILDCAT!
(DRIVE:\PATH\FILENAME to the file to be scanned)
SEE COMMAND LINE OPTIONS FOR FSCANL8R.EXE on
PAGE 5 for VALID SWITCHES. My EXAMPLE uses the
NODE1.CFG configuration file and the LOCKED COM
PORT command LOCKED:19200 to lock my com port on
my 14.4k V.42Bis NSA16550 UART modem at 19200
baud, and the %1 variable to pass the
DRIVE:\PATH\FILENAME to File Scan Later FROM
WILDCAT!
line 2: This line checks to see if File Scan Later
created it's FSCANL8R.BAT file in your HOME
DIRECTORY (where FSCANL8R.EXE lives)
File Scan Later 1.12
Documentation - Page 14
and if so calls this file. The FSCANL8R.BAT
file is responsible for running TRANSCAN on the
current uploaded file when the user chooses to
have files scanned online.
POSTCALL.RUN
--------------
This is the file called by WILDCAT! just after a user
logs off of your BBS. There is also some WILDCAT! 4.xx
& 3.xx systems set up that use the same exact file but
it is named POSTCALL.BAT . Look over your system first
looking in the WILDCAT! HOME DIRECTORY for either of the
files POSTCALL.RUN OR POSTCALL.BAT, if you find either
one in your HOME DIRECTORY back them up to different
file names and DELETE the POSTCALL.BAT and POSTCALL.RUN
files from this directory. Then change into the NODE
DIRECTORY for EACH NODE on your WILDCAT! BBS and check
for the existence of the same files POSTCALL.BAT &
POSTCALL.RUN. If they exist in your NODE DIRECTORY's
back them up to different file names also and DELETE the
POSTCALL.BAT file. Then edit your POSTCALL.RUN file,
and if you don't have one, create one. Follow the
outline below. If you are using WILDCAT! 4.xx you MUST
also REMOVE the POSTCALL.BAT & POSTCALL.RUN files from
your BATCH FILE DIRECTORY! A POSTCALL.RUN file should
exist in EACH NODE DIRECTORY ONLY, AND NOWHERE ELSE ON
THE SYSTEM!!! If you have software that needs to be
run after each call you should place the commands to run
your other programs either BEFORE OR AFTER what we tell
you that you MUST have in this file. DO NOT SEPARATE
and stick your commands in the middle of this three line
set of commands we will outline below. A POSTCALL.RUN
file for WILDCAT! 4.xx C:\WILDCAT\WCWORK\NODE1\POSTCALL.RUN
& WILDCAT! 3.xx C:\WC30\WCWORK\NODE1\POSTCALL.RUN file
is outilined below.
WILDCAT 4.xx C:\WILDCAT\WCWORK\NODE1\POSTCALL.RUN file
IF NOT EXIST C:\WILDCAT\TRANSCAN\TS.LST GOTO CONTINUE
TS -L «--- line 2 ^--- line 1
:CONTINUE «--- line 3
WILDCAT 3.xx C:\WC30\WCWORK\NODE1\POSTCALL.RUN file
IF NOT EXIST C:\WC30\TRANSCAN\TS.LST GOTO CONTINUE
TS -L «--- line 2 ^--- line 1
:CONTINUE «--- line 3
File Scan Later 1.12
Documentation - Page 15
line 1: This line checks your TRANSCAN directory (change
the path to TRANSCAN to fit your system) to see
if File Scan Later created the TS.LST (or
whatever list file you have set up on line six
of your configuration file) file list during
that call. This line sends you to line three if
the list file is NOT FOUND, and to line two if
the list file IS FOUND.
line 2: This line starts up TRANSCAN and tells TRANSCAN
to process the TS.LST file by use of the "-L"
command switch. After TRANSCAN processes all
the files in the list file it runs line three.
There is no need to DELETE the TS.LST file after
processing. TRANSCAN will delete it for you.
line 3: This line is where control is passed if the
TS.LST file is not found, or after TRANSCAN
processes the TS.LST file and DELETES it. This
line should only have the command ":CONTINUE" on
it. NOTHING ELSE CAN BE ON THIS LINE, IF
ANYTHING ELSE APPEARS ON THIS LINE THIS BATCH
FILE MAY NOT WORK PROPERLY. You can run your
other after call programs on what would be line
four of this file OR before line one.
GOODBYE.ASC & GOODBYE.ANS
---------------------------
These two files are the goodbye files displayed by File
Scan Later if the caller picks the Goodby scan option
(if enabled) the GOODBYE.ASC file is the black & white
goodbye screen to be displayed to NON ANSI CALLERS, and
the GOODBYE.ANS file is the color ansi file to be
displayed to ANSI CALLERS. Copy your GOODBYE screens
from WILDCAT 4.xx, OR 3.xx to the directory that
FSCANL8R.EXE exists in and they can be displayed. If
they are NOT FOUND by File Scan Later no GOODBYE screen
will be displayed.
FSCANL8R.CLR
--------------
This file is the CUSTOM COLOR configuration file created
by FSCNISNT or which can be created by you. Below will
give you a list of the valid colors for reference, and
even explain how you can make a FSCANL8R.CLR file
yourself without using the FSCNINST program. You can
create this file with a wordprocessor, DOS's EDIT, or
FSCNINST.EXE, as long as it saves in ASCII format.

File Scan Later will probably work with a few other file scanning
programs besides TRANSCAN. But a few things may have to be done.
You must be sure that your file scanner supports offline scanning
through the use of a list file that follows the same format as
the TS.LST file outlined on page 7 of this documentation. The
configuration file line 6 MUST be modified to reflect the name of
the list file your file scanner supports. The SCANFILE.RUN file
needs no modification. The POSTCALL.RUN file lines 1 and 2 need
to be modified. Line 1 must have the DRIVE:\PATH\PATH\FILENAME
change that was already made to the configuration file also made
to it to assure the file list is found by File Scan Later. Line
2 needs to have the command switch -L removed from it and
replaced with the correct command switch for your scanner to
process the offline list file. DO NOT CHANGE the TS command in

Documentation - Page 17
line 2 to the EXE name of your file scanner, RENAME the .EXE file
from your file scanner to TS.EXE. THIS IS A MUST! IF YOU DO NOT
RENAME YOUR SCANNER PROGRAM TO TS.EXE THE FSCANL8R.BAT FILE
CALLED FROM LINE 3 OF YOUR SCANFILE.RUN FILE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO
START UP YOUR FILE SCANNER AND FILE SCAN LATER WILL NOT WORK!
AGAIN! This program was written for TRANSCAN, though if you are
clever enough to get it to run with another scanner that is
GREAT! If you just have to have this feature on your WILDCAT!
4.xx OR 3.xx BBS and CANNOT get it set up with your file scanner,
call the SUPPORT BBS shown on the TITLE PAGE of this document,
explain in detail your problem, and supply me with a copy of the
documentation for your scanning program (if not the WHOLE PROGRAM
so I can goof with it) upload attach it to the message you leave
me, and I will work on a solution for your problem. If good
results come of this first version, I may release new versions
that may include more features, and support for more
file scanning programs.
ERRORS and Troubleshooting
----------------------------
File Scan Later has certain errors which may occur if there is a
problem, I have included error trapping routines into File Scan
Later which will find the most common errors. The errors this
program is set up to trap will either be displayed to the screen
written to a file called FSCANL8R.ERR, OR BOTH. The FSCANL8R.ERR
file will be created in the same directory as FSCANL8R.EXE file,
and will contain a short description of the possible cause of the
problem along with an occurrence date and time. A list of
possible ERRORS that the error trapping will catch follows.
ERROR 10 - An ERROR 10 means that File Scan Later either
can not find, can not read, or has found an
EXPIRED FSCANL8R.KEY file. To fix this
problem, make sure your FSCANL8R.KEY file
exists in the same directory as FSCANL8R.EXE
file. If the .KEY file is in the directory
that FSCANL8R.EXE is in and you still get
this error your .KEY file is either EXPIRED
OR CORRUPT. At this point the ONLY CURE is
to call the support BBS on the TITLE PAGE of
this document and download a new FSCANL8R.KEY
file.
ERROR 33 - An ERROR 33 means that your FSCANL8R.CLR
CUSTOM color setup file has a mistyped number
or an invalid color number. Valid range is
from 1 - 15. Any number in this file not
between 1 and 15 is likely to be the cause of
this error. Correct the error and restart.

Documentation - Page 18
ERROR 66 - An ERROR 66 means that your command line to
start File Scan Later is missing the
DRIVE:\PATH\PATH\FILENAME of the current file
to be scanned. Check your SCANFILE.RUN file
and be sure that the LAST COMMAND on your
SCANFILE.RUN file line one is %1 , If not
add this and try again.
ERROR 87 - An ERROR 87 means that the FSCANL8R.BAT file
that needs to be created by FSCANL8R.EXE
could not be written for whatever reason,
this could be caused by the BBS running out
of disk space or a previous copy of the
FSCANL8R.BAT file having its read-only
attribute turned on. If none of these
suggestions are the cause of your problem
call the support BBS on the TITLE PAGE of
this document, and leave the SysOp a comment
detailing your trouble.
ERROR 98 - An ERROR 98 means that the WILDCAT! 4.xx OR
3.xx SCANFILE.BAD file could not be written
to its proper location. If you get this
error set the configuration file up to PASS
all delayed uploads. If the error goes away
there is a problem writing the SCANFILE.BAD
file. Check the file for a read-only
attribute. If this doesn't help, make sure
your configuration file line 5 has no
typographical errors, and that the
DRIVE:PATH\PATH\FILENAME is correct.
ERROR 103- An ERROR 103 means that FILE SCAN LATER could
not write to your specified delay list file
specified on your configuration file line 6.
make sure that there is no typographical
errors in your configuration file. Also make
sure the read-only attribute is not on for
the file.
ERROR 212- An ERROR 212 means that FILE SCAN LATER could
not find the data on your CONFIGURATION file
seven. If you get this error make sure that
your .CFG FILE's LINE 7 has either, IN ALL
CAPITALS, the word YES or the word NO.
Correct and try again.

OTHER ERRORS
--------------
It IS possible I didn't catch all of the errors that could arise,
in a case like this you will see an "ERROR AT PGM CTR: nnnn" type
of message. If an error like this occurs, RE-INSTALL FILE SCAN
LATER and if the problem still occurs write down the error and
call the support BBS on the TITLE PAGE of this document, leave
the SysOp a message telling me about your system and what the
error displayed to you was. I will go into the source code and
try to find what is causing your problem.
Comments and Suggestions
--------------------------
If you have ANY COMMENTS, GOOD OR BAD, OR ANY SUGGESTIONS ON
IMPROVING FILE SCAN LATER, and would like to voice them. Feel
free to call my BBS at the number listed as the support BBS, and
drop me (SysOp) a line telling me what is on your mind. ALL
COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS ARE WELCOME!
