  68. I have been moderating an echo (RAILFANS) for over a year now, and have
  69. seen it work its way onto the backbone.  The actual execution went
  70. quickly, the big delay was finding all the docs to do it.  And, since I
  71. plan to open up a BBS in a month or two, I want to make sure that this
  72. time I've got all the docs I need.  (We just bought a house and I have
  73. to  finish getting my "playroom" unpacked and straightened out before
  74. I'll let  myself set up a computer.  Once the computer's plugged in, all
  75. housekeeping in the room goes down the tubes...)
  76.  
  77. So, I've been accumulating a list of various files that "every sysop
  78. should know about" so that when I become a full-fledged public bbs sysop
  79. (instead of just being a pointop), I'll have all the rules and
  80. procedures  and info at my fingertips.  I'd like you all to look over my
  81. list, and  after you've chuckled at my ignorance (go ahead, chuckle,
  82. you're allowed)  let me know which vitally important files I've left
  83. out.

  85. I'm trying to get a list of the NAMES (both magic and otherwise) of
  86. various Fidonet documentation files; in particular, those files that a
  87. moderator or a new sysop should be familiar with. Is there such a list
  88. already available?  If not, can anyone add anything  to  the list I've
  89. compiled so far? So far I'm just trying to identify the file names. If
  90. you have anything to add, *don't* send me the file, just the name and a
  91. brief description of what it is. I'll be freqing them later, after I
  92. know what I'm looking for."

  154. News of the ANEWS Echo

  157.    A couple of years ago I got sick of hearing about the fact
  158. that the USA Today newsrag had decided to go online and to
  159. charge Sysops for the fluffy tripe they call news, and I
  160. wondered what I could do to bring some different perspectives
  161. of news to people.
  162.  
  163.    After some thought and talking with some people I decided to
  164. start the ANEWS -- an acronym for Alternative News -- echo.

  169.    The echo started out small, with just some random postings
  170. from various alternative newspapers around the country.  Over
  171. time though, it's grown and changed.  There were some periods
  172. when ANEWS carried 80 or more news stories per day, but it's
  173. calmed down now to a more reasonable 10-20 for the last few
  174. months.
  175.  
  176.    ANEWS isn't for everyone.
  177.  
  178.    Given the fact that our corporate mass media leans to the
  179. political right, ANEWS, being an alternative news echo, leans to
  180. the political left.  ANEWS also doesn't follow the corporate
  181. media's definition of the politlcal spectrum, you know,
  182. "left = liberal" and "right = conservative."  ANEWS recognizes
  183. the political spectrum as quite a bit further to the right and
  184. left, respectively.
  185.  
  186.    To be an ANEWS reader you should be willing to have some
  187. preconceptions challenged, and to have an open mind.
  188.  
  189.    Looking over some of the news stories we've had run in ANEWS
  190. over the last week or so and one will find an interesting
  191. hodge-podge of stories and views.  For example:
  192.  
  193.  - An editorial piece from the Cuban daily newspaper Granma
  194. telling the Cuban side of the story of anti-Cuban terrorists
  195. landing and being captured in Cuba.
  196.  
  197.  - A legislative update from the Friends (Quaker Church)
  198. Committee on National Legislative.
  199.  
  200.  - News articles describing GM's attempt to pit GM workers at
  201. one factory against another by threatening to close one of two
  202. factories and then waiting to see which group of workers will
  203. take the biggest pay and benefit cuts.
  204.  
  205.  - The story of three Mennonite Church workers arrested in
  206. Haiti.
  207.  
  208.  - Human rights reports on terror by the goverment of Guatemala.
  209.  
  210.  - Stories of violence in Russia as people burn the houses and
  211. cars of the newly rich class in protest.
  212.  
  213.  - Reports of the US economy with angles -- such as the plight
  214. of the homeless and poor, unemployed workers resulting from
  215. factories closing in order to move out of the US -- that are
  216. routinely ignored by the US corporate mass media.
  217.  
  218.    And the list goes on and on with more stories being posted
  219. every day.  Some stories will shock you, some will surprise you,
  220. some will anger you -- guaranteed!

  225.    The ANEWS echo is available on the Zone 1 FidoNet backbone
  226. and this news -- unlike the pay system that USA Today uses --
  227. is FREELY available to anyone willing to link into ANEWS.

  245. Oh no <groan!>, just what the world needs.  Another door...
  246.  
  247. I would like to announce the availability of OLVIEW - An online GIF
  248. viewer door that runs on (almost) any BBS.  If you have a lot of GIF
  249. traffic on your board this door might be of interest to you.
  250.  
  251. I run a medium size graphics oriented BBS.  After having countless
  252. callers request a way to view GIFs while online with my board, I decided
  253. to research the possibility of writing a door that would allow a caller
  254. to preview several GIFs at once while online.  The minimum requirements
  255. were: 1) Ease of installation and use on the caller's part.  2) Must be
  256. easy to install, run on (most) BBS software, and be reliable from the
  257. sysop's point of view.  3) Provide the ability to preview several GIFs
  258. in under 5 minutes at 2400 baud (regardless of GIF file size).
  259.  
  260. With the release of version 4 of Jay Wherley's GIFDESK, this finally
  261. became possible.  OLVIEW uses GIFDESK to create a small GIF file which
  262. can be viewed while downloading (with Bill Parquet's SHOWGIF shareware).
  263. The downsized GIF should take no more than 3-4 minutes to download (at
  264. 2400 baud) and will give the receiver a fairly good idea of what the
  265. full fledged GIF file will look like.
  266.  
  267. Using OLVIEW, it is possible to "preview" several megabytes of GIF files
  268. in only a few minutes; thereby, saving most of the callers limited
  269. online time for downloading only the GIFs of interest.
  270.  
  271. OLVIEW will allow the user to choose up to four GIF files at once to be
  272. used to make up one downsized (and downloadable) custom GIF file.  This
  273. downsized file may be viewed offline after transfer using a regular GIF
  274. viewer or viewed during the download with SHOWGIF.  In other words, its
  275. a
  276. full-blown 640x480x256 resolution GIF file that has the image of up to
  277. four other GIFs in it.  The OLVIEW door has become a very popular
  278. feature
  279. on my board, saving my callers countless hours spent downloading
  280. unwanted

  285.  
  286. OLVIEW will give the caller a choice of two formats for the created
  287. downsized GIF.  Small (1.5" x 1.5", approx. size on screen) or medium
  288. (2.5" x 2.5").  The actual screen size of each GIF will vary depending
  289. upon the resolution of the source GIF file(s).  OLVIEW will use X, Y,
  290. or Zmodem (DSZ) to transfer the preview GIF with.
  291.  
  292. The type of BBS software you run is purely a matter of personal
  293. preference.  I purposely wrote OLVIEW to run under DOORWAY so that it
  294. may be installed and run on any BBS type supported by DOORWAY (as most
  295. popular BBS's are).

  314.  
  315. SEAmail version 1.10 is now available.  Anyone wishing a disk update
  316. should contact System Enhancement Associates, Inc.  However, anyone
  317. with SEAmail version 1.02 can upgrade their system FREE OF CHARGE,
  318. electronically.

  320. Simply change to your SEAmail directory and give the command:
  321.  
  322.     upgrade 102to110
  323.  
  324. and your system will upgrade itself to version 1.10.  Anyone with
  325. version 1.02 of SEAmail for OS/2 should instead give the command:
  326.  
  327.     upgrade sm110p
  328.

  330. SEAmail version 1.10 incorporates the following changes:
  331.  
  332.  *  The "yes/no" dialog boxes in CFGEDIT and MAIL no longer pause when
  333.     you select the default answer by pressing "Enter".

  338.  *  The network server was leaving DTR low when Caller*ID is used,
  339.     which prevented most modems from answering the phone.  This should
  340.     now be fixed.

  342.  *  Under certain curcumstances, the standard session handler could be
  343.     fooled into thinking that it needed to process an REQ file on an
  344.     inbound call when it really didn't.  This should now be fixed.
  345.  
  346.  *  A bug was detected in echomail support that could cause messages
  347.     to be placed in the wrong folders.  This should now be fixed.
  348.     Also, echomail support in general has been greatly enhanced, and
  349.     includes a new echomail folder type in MAIL (complete with an
  350.     echomail link editor).
  351.  
  352.  *  Return receipts and audit trail receipts were being generated with
  353.     no text.  This should now be fixed.
  354.  
  355.  *  Scroll boxes should now "wrap" properly.  That is, going up from
  356.     the top should now take you to the bottom, and vice versa.
  357.  
  358.  *  A bug was detected that caused dialog boxes with shadow text to
  359.     work improperly when the shadow text completely filled the input
  360.     area.  This should now be fixed in all cases.
  361.  
  362.  *  Hitting "tab" to resolve a filename template did not work if there
  363.     was more than one filename template in the input box, or if the
  364.     filename template had a leading exclamation mark.  This should now
  365.     be fixed.
  366.  
  367.  *  Automatic rerouting to local destinations was not working
  368.     properly.  This should now be fixed.
  369.  
  370.  *  It is now possible to delete a message while it is packed for
  371.     transmission.  Go into the packet editor (run TWEAKPKT, or hit
  372.     Alt-P while SEAmail is running), select a packet containing the
  373.     message and press Enter to view the packet.  Now highlight the
  374.     message to delete and hit the DEL key.
  375.  
  376.  *  DIAL now gives a notice at startup telling the user that the INS,
  377.     DEL, and END keys can be used to alter the dialing list.
  378.  
  379.  *  Null modem connections should now start up easier.  We are
  380.     allowing five seconds for the system on the other end to respond.
  381.  
  382.  *  Systems that have a null modem as their primary modem no longer
  383.     need to give a destination system for GET, SEND, or POLL.
  384.  
  385.  *  The DIAL terminal program can now be told to mask parity.  This
  386.     can be useful when calling commercial services such as CompuServe
  387.     and BIX.

  392.  *  The DIAL program now has the ability to dump the clipboard to a
  393.     file.  This allows you to save the filenames and comments to help
  394.     remember what you downloaded.  The clipboard must be dumped BEFORE
  395.     you end a terminal session.

  397.  *  The DIAL program was not always "hanging up" at the end of a null
  398.     modem session, hich would leave the other end of the null modem
  399.     cable thinking that it was still connected.  This is now fixed.
  400.  
  401.  *  The GET and SEND commands would not work for addresses with
  402.     unpublished phone numbers, even when the /X (ignore errors) option
  403.     was given.  This has now been fixed.
  404.  
  405.  *  MAIL was disregarding editing of the "To:" field during original
  406.     message entry.  This has now been fixed.
  407.  
  408.  *  Under special circumstances unlikely to happen anywhere but here,
  409.     SECURE1 would undo autorouting of received secured messages.  This
  410.     should now be fixed.
  411.  
  412.  *  SECURE1 was securing null messages under certain circumstances,
  413.     resulting in real messages being sent where virtual messages were
  414.     intended.  This should now be fixed.
  415.  
  416.  *  Under certain circumstances where ambiguous pong data was
  417.     received, GroupMail ping reports would omit some participating
  418.     systems.  This has now been fixed.
  419.  
  420.  *  Sound support has been added for the Sound Blaster card (MS-DOS
  421.     version only).  If your SOUND.CFG file contains a BLASTER command,
  422.     then SEAmail will attempt to use the Sound Blaster speaker for
  423.     playing sounds.
  424.  
  425.  *  The RENUMBER program can now be used to renumber messages in a
  426.     specified message folder.
  427.  
  428.  *  NLCOMP no longer deletes node list difference files.  If you are
  429.     using EDITNL by Ben Baker to apply difference files, you should be
  430.     sure to use the /C (cleanup) option.
  431.  
  432.  *  CFGEDIT now has an explicit installation prompt for use on local
  433.     area networks.
  434.  
  435.  *  The session handlers would log loss of carrier as an error under
  436.     circumstances where it does not really constitute an error
  437.     condition.  This has not been fixed.
  438.  
  439.  *  A new program, STATUS.EXE, has been added to give a continuously
  440.     updated report of what the various lines of a multiline system are
  441.     doing.

  446.  *  Some people have asked for some way to log the contents of the
  447.     packet database as of a given time.  We have added a new program,
  448.     PACKETS.EXE, to do this.  Its output may be displayed on the local
  449.     console or redirected to a file.

  451.  *  Some programs exhibited truly awful performance on OS/2 machines
  452.     that do not have a mouse installed.  This has now been fixed.
  453.  
  454.  *  MAIL was using a color combination on the "carbon copies" dialog
  455.     box that was unreadable on many machines.  This has now been
  456.     fixed.
  457.

  459. NOTE: There is an error in the UPGRADE.BAT (or UPGRADE.CMD) supplied
  460. on SEAmail version 1.02 disks.  If you have not done so already, then
  461. you should type the command:
  462.  
  463.     get UPGRADE.ARC from SEA now
  464.  
  465. and unpack the latest version of the upgrade process before you
  466. attempt to apply the version 1.10 upgrade.
  467.  
  468. Also, if you have a USR HST modem, then you may want to edit the entry
  469. for SEA in your phone book before you apply the upgrade.  The number
  470. to use for USR HST modems is (201) 473-2853.

  476. Release of Version 3.00 of ARCMAIL
  477.

  479. A new version of ARCMAIL is now available for distribution.  This
  480. version is a replacement for ARCMAIL versions 0.60 thru 2.07.  Left
  481. to its own devices, it will function precisely as has the previous
  482. version (2.07), upon whose code it was based.  My thanks to Thom
  483. Henderson for making the code available for this update.
  484.  
  485. New functionality has been added to version 3.0 that may be of
  486. interest to current users, especially converts to SEAmail and those
  487. who are required to deal with multiple file archive types.  A
  488. configuration file may be used to extend the abilities of ARCMAIL
  489. in the following manner:
  490.  
  491.    1) Handles file attach messages properly for any of the SEA
  492.       mailer packages.  This includes the older versions (4.1)
  493.       that require an attach message, newer versions (4.5+) that
  494.       require no attach message, and SEAmail, which requires an
  495.       attach message with the filename preceded by a "!" in the
  496.       subject line in order to delete the file after transmission.

  501.    2) Allows the selection of either Base36 or "Version 0" extensions
  502.       on a node-by-node basis.  This means that you can handle both
  503.       types on a single ARCMAIL TO pass.
  504.  
  505.    3) Allows the selection of numerous archive formats for both
  506.       inbound (ARCMAIL FROM) and outbound (ARCMAIL TO) archives,
  507.       selectable on a node-by-node basis.  All archive types can
  508.       be created or extracted as necessary on a single ARCMAIL TO
  509.       or ARCMAIL FROM pass.
  510.  
  511.       This option is especially important for SEAmail users who are
  512.       otherwise confined to the internal call to ARC that is generated
  513.       by the ARCMAIL verb in ROUTE.CFG.
  514.  
  515.    4) Both file extension and archiver type defaults can be modified.
  516.  
  517. Parameters may be used as found in the CONFIG.DOG file, and may be
  518. supplimented by those found in the ARCMAIL.CFG file.  Any parameter
  519. found in the ARCMAIL.CFG file will override that found on a command
  520. line or in the CONFIG.DOG file.
  521.  
  522. Documentation is provided with the package which may be file requested
  523. via either Bark or *.REQ format to 1:104/114@FidoNet as ARCMAIL3.ARC.
  524. The files are archived in ARC version 6 format.  This package will
  525. also be distributed by SDS on or shortly after 2/1/92.
  526.

  535.                             GENEALOGY and TECHNOLOGY

  538.          Well, do they really mix?  Yes!  With the help of your
  539. computer.
  540.     Kentucky will celebrate its 200 year birthday in 1992 and many of
  541. our
  542.     counties have things planned with their historical or genealogical
  543.     societies.  While many of our citizens have been doing genealogy
  544.     research for many years few have used the computer to help with the
  545.     research, record keeping or letter writing that's involved.  Our
  546.     younger generations have the knowledge for using the computer; but,
  547.     little interest in genealogy.  Seems we need to mix the two together
  548. in

  563.     protocol.  Next, call the Livewire BBS at (502)933-4725 and follow

  630. It's time for the leadership of FidoNet (that means, if you hold a title
  631. in FidoNet other than "sysop", this is for you) to hear a little bit
  632. from someone on the short end of their political games.  Normally I
  633. would sign my article, but in this instance I choose not to because I
  634. would like to protect third parties mentioned by office.  If you knew
  635. my address you could track them down.  It is not my purpose to embarass,
  636. but it is my purpose to wake up some sleepers toward the top of the
  637. nodelist.  Not that my effort will have any effect or anything...
  638.  
  639. o It seems to me that there is a tremendous inertia against change in
  640.   FidoNet.  Any time anyone proposes a change they must implement the
  641.   entire thing from start to finish, and at most they may get "No, you
  642.   should do it this way" for their efforts.
  643.  
  644.      A prime example is Aaron Goldblatt's nodelist proposal.  He's been
  645.      plugging away at this thing for a few months now, and has now
  646.      released the third revision of his standard.  He sees a problem in
  647.      FidoNet and is attempting to do something about it.
  648.  
  649.      What has he gotten for his efforts?  Some encouragement from the
  650.      lowly folks without political power, but mostly a lot of poo-pooing
  651.      from the higher-ups (if they deigned to comment at all).  Recently
  652.      a number of articles have appeared in FidoNews saying that the
  653.      nodelist is too big (hey, 277 was 1,087,926 bytes, or 1062k long!),
  654.      and most have suggested general changes (eliminating Pvts, binary
  655.      formats, etc.), but nothing specific.
  656.  
  657.      But Aaron, together with Will Schlichtman, have not only suggested
  658.      general changes, but they have created an FTSC-type spec document
  659.      and released it to anybody who wants to FREQ it at 1200+ bps.  When
  660.      asked for numerical analysis, Aaron provided it thanks to Will's
  661.      conversion program.  And he carried out this analysis on his

  665.      painfully slow 4.77 mHz V20 Zenith Z150 and 66 megabytes of hard
  666.      drive space.
  667.  
  668.      He's the only person I've seen develop an entire nodelist spec
  669.      document and release it three times, get a conversion program
  670.      created, and do reasonably rigorus statistical analysis of the
  671.      savings the format provides.
  672.  
  673.      Those of you who want a binary format - how about doing the same?
  674.  
  675.   If FidoNet is to improve over what we have now, instead of simply
  676.   jumping on the bandwagon trashing someone else's idea, create one of
  677.   your own.  Write specs for it.  That way, instead of a few people
  678.   doing all the work, everyone contributes and the whole thing comes out
  679.   better.  Aaron commented on it in FidoNews 806 - information and idea
  680.   exchange is the purpose of FidoNet.
  681.  
  682. o There is an increasing attitude of NoSlow in FidoNet.  Sysops,
  683.   pointops, and users who have modems which run slower than 9600 are
  684.   increasingly subjected to criticism by their peers and others because
  685.   of the slower speed of their hardware.  Examples:
  686.  
  687.      A net in Zone 1 recently had a discussion about limiting echomail
  688.      distribution based on modem speed - the slower your modem, the less
  689.      mail you could get.  The idea eventually died, but there was some
  690.      very bitter debate about it.  On one side you saw the 1200 and 2400
  691.      bps people, and on the other you had the HSTs, DSs, V.32s, PEPs,
  692.      H96s, and CSPs.
  693.  
  694.      Many nets have a hub-based mail distribution scheme.  But those who
  695.      want to become a hub must have a 9600 bps modem and run CM.  I can
  696.      understand the CM requirement, but what's wrong with a 2400 bps hub
  697.      feeding other 2400 systems?  Yes, SOMEWHERE there will have to be a
  698.      2400 <==> 9600 link, but since most nets bring mail in from long
  699.      distance at 9600, that could be at the local level where costs are
  700.      smallest.
  701.  
  702.      One pointop I talked to felt that he was constantly belittled
  703.      because of his lack of fast hardware, a situation he has been
  704.      working to try and correct but lacks funds to do so.  His bossnode
  705.      went to 2400+ only for human callers, so he could file request and
  706.      get mail from his boss, but not log in as a human caller.
  707.  
  708.   Guys, an HST hooked to a 386/33 or Mac IIfx is kind of like raising
  709.   big horses.   Tain't cheap.  It seems like those who favor rules
  710.   like echomail restrictions are the ones who would be least affected by
  711.   them.  We don't all have a modem that can do 100k in less than 60
  712.   seconds, nor do we have the funds to pay for one.  And
  713.   -=* OCCASIONALLY *=- there is the pointop who pulls 400k of mail a day
  714.   at 1200 bps and wants an HST, but can't afford retail on one because
  715.   he doesn't qualify for the sysop deal - you gotta have a BBS for that,

  721. o Lack of information distribution to those affected seems to be a
  722.   problem as well.  I am an active participant in several international
  723.   confrences, and the departure of Felix Kasza from FidoNet was a
  724.   surprise to me, if for no other reason than I didn't know who he was
  725.   or what he did.
  726.  
  727.   Felix was an example of the FidoNet unsung hero - someone whose work
  728.   (often on their own dime) goes unnoticed by the vast majority of
  729.   people who benefit.  I can understand how Felix could get burnt out -
  730.   I've thought more than once about saving about ten megabytes and
  731.   deleting every bit of FidoNet and BBS-related material from my system.
  732.  
  733.   Not only did I not know who he was, I didn't hear about it from
  734.   anybody in the *C structure, through which our information is supposed
  735.   to come, right?
  736.  
  737.   Instead, I heard it from the Zone 2 moderator of the INTERUSER
  738.   echo, and only by chance at that - I was doing a name search for
  739.   "Moderator" looking for the Zone 1 moderator.  There was no note about
  740.   it in FidoNews 839 - I did a text search for his name and my computer
  741.   just beeped at me..."Kasza not found!"
  742.  
  743. Is it just me or do we have a problem here?
  744.  
  745. The nickname of Fight-o-Net seems to be true.  I'm not going to say that
  746. I didn't expect some politiking when I joined, but some of this stuff is
  747. insane.  Take a look at Pablo Kleinman's article in Fnews 840.  I don't
  748. know anything about the Zone 1 <> Zone 4 zonegate service embargo -
  749. again, this didn't come to me through the *C structure (and I DO
  750. pull and read the local sysop information echo) - but I've seen such
  751. things happen on a smaller scale, and am not really surprised to see it
  752. on an international level.
  753.  
  754. But I think it's deplorable.
  755.  
  756. I wasn't surprised to see Pablo's charge that his offer of providing
  757. Zonegating services was declined for political reasons.  It happens
  758. where I am all the time.  A pointop I know wanted to help in an
  759. emergency hub crash situation.  His offers, unsolicited by anyone and
  760. made with the best of intentions, drew what amounted to flames by
  761. members of his net.
  762.  
  763. Next time you make a comment - any comment, think about it first.
  764.  
  765. o Echomail distribution is WAAAY too political.  I'm from Zone 1, but
  766.   I've heard reports from very reliable people that there's a big
  767.   political flap in Zone 2 over echomail payments to TAP.  Feeds to
  768.   entire regions may get cut because some people demand payment for
  769.   something that -= USED =- to be a hobby.

  774.   I agree that cost distribution is fair - it's a common practice here
  775.   in Zone 1, too.  But it ought to be done on the net level, not on the
  776.   region level.  There are many places where echos are fed from one
  777.   region to another on a passthru basis, and cutting feeds to the link
  778.   would be unfair.  For example, a lot of echomail that flows into
  779.   Estonia goes through Finland.  Cut Finland's feed and what happens to
  780.   Estonia?
  781.  
  782. o Someone commented in a recent FidoNews that we should get rid of all
  783.   the politickers (was it Pablo Klienman?).  I am inclined to agree.
  784.   When I became a user of a FidoNet BBS about three years ago the same
  785.   people were running it as they do now.  It's true that in my region
  786.   we've changed RCs once and RECs twice, but it's still the same old
  787.   gang.  The only thing that's different are the titles.
  788.  
  789.   I'm tempted to list the people I'm thinking of by name, but will not.
  790.   It is enough to say that they now hold positions of considerable
  791.   political power within FidoNet - and they have made more than one node
  792.   uncomfortable.
  793.  
  794.   All of the political crap is driving very good people out of the
  795.   network, as well.  Felix Kasza is the most obvious example that I know
  796.   of, but also a former NC of a network I'm near.  This NC resigned his
  797.   position (he retains his node address), in part, as a protest to the
  798.   outcome of a policy complaint filed by him and 27 other individuals.
  799.   It was rejected, not only on the basis of a technicality (according to
  800.   POLICY4 only 3 of the 31 signatures were valid) but also for purely
  801.   political reasons.  As I read the response closely I realized that the
  802.   complaint was rejected not because on a basis in POLICY4, but because
  803.   of the lack of a policy covering echomail (the partial subject of the
  804.   complaint).  It seems to me that the result was merely protection of
  805.   someone already holding considerable power within Zone 1.
  806.  
  807. Someone, in a netmail comment, summed up what's going on, and I think
  808. the shoe fits.  He requested that he not be identified, but I will say
  809. that he's a sysop somewhere in Zone 1 (THAT'S a big help, ain't it!).
  810.  
  811.       Fidonet dies, slowly and painfully, because of all this
  812.       bureaucratic nonsense.  Next thing we won't even be allowed to
  813.       send netmail direct to someone outside our own net.
  814.  
  815. It's time to cut out the bull and get back to where we started - a group
  816. (okay, a huge group) of people having a good time together.
  817.
