In accordance with current practice and adopted echomail procedure
within Fidonet, the following rules have been established for the
WordPerfect Macro Echo. The following rules will be posted period-
ically in the echo.
The purpose of the rules is quite simply to make sure the messages
conform to Fidonet standards, keep the threads on topic, and to
insure orderly distribution without causing duplicate message loops.
1. Only real names are allowed in this conference. Handles, nick-
names, etc. are not permitted. This is an echo dedicated to
serious topics and such handles as "Asian Warrior", "Satan's Right
Hand", and "The Avenger" have no place here. Short forms of your
first name such as Bob, Al, Joe, etc. are not considered nick-
names.
2. The purpose of this echo is discussion of WordPerfect Corporation
shareware support products and add-on products for WordPerfect
products. No other software, hardware, etc. questions are con-
sidered on-topic. No "bashing" of competitive products is permit-
ted. The Moderator will absolutely not permit the "My XYZ is bet-
ter than your xyz" syndrome into the echo. This definition includes
macros of course but does not limit discussion to macros. Indeed,
all advanced topics such as network problems, OS/2 and other oper-
ating system problems, etc. belong here.
3. Off topic messages should be ignored. The Moderator will respond
to them directly. Answers by others just tend to perpetuate
themselves and lead the threads astray.
4. Personal attacks (commonly called flames) are not permitted under
any circumstances. In addition to keeping the messages on topic,
we intend to keep things friendly. It is absolutely permitted
and encouraged to disagree. However, it must be done in a
friendly manner.
5. It is particularly necessary for the professionals among us to remember
that this echo is for *everyone*. A condescending manner is to be avoided
at all costs. Please try to remember how much you had to learn at one
time. Explanations, etc. should be given in a way that the rather novice
macro or shareware user can understand. What you say should in all cases
try to reflect what the user sees when he or she tries to duplicate a
macro, run a shareware program, etc.
6. This echo is available to any Fidonet BBS which wants to carry it,
and we hope they all will. However, at this time it may not be
passed out of Fidonet without the explicit permission of the
Moderator. Also, it should only be passed to or from your net
echomail hub unless he asks you to pass it on to another bbs in
your net.
7. Sysops (system operators) from throughout the country spend their own
hard-earned $$$ to make these echos available for your pleasure and
education. Therefore, advertisements of any kind, and in particular,
*COMMERCIAL_ADVERTISEMENTS* are not in good taste and are *TABOO*.
It is totally unfair to ask these sysops to pay your advertising
costs, and your cooperation here is most certainly expected.
8. This echo is designed both for "power users" and as a medium for inter-
action between authors and users of FULLY FUNCTIONAL shareware and
Public Domain utilities. The echo rules support telling all where
such products may be requested, downloaded, etc. It will be on-topic
PROVIDED what the user can download, etc. is FULLY FUNCTIONAL
and not limited, restricted, etc. in any way. Products with a "drop
dead" date, limited features, or other "quarks" designed to force the
user to pay a fee in order to get full use are considered unfriendly
and may not be supported in this conference. Unfriendly programs are
considered by the Moderator to be Commercial and the limited version
advertising.
9. That's all the rules folks. They are really just common sense
and courtesy. Please live somewhere near if not within them and
all will be well. However, we must enforce them if they are
violated.
