  1. In accordance with current practice and adopted echomail proceedure
  2. within Fidonet, the following rules have been established for the  
  3. Home Repair and Home N Garden Echos.  The following rules will 
  4. be posted periodically in each echo.
  5.  
  6. The purpose of the rules is quite simply to make sure the messages 
  7. conform to Fidonet standards, keep the threads on topic, and to 
  8. insure orderly distribution without causing duplicate message loops.
  9.  
  10. 1.  Only real names are allowed in this conference.  Handles, nick-
  11.     names, etc. are not permitted.  This is an echo dedicated to 
  12.     serious topics and such handles as "Asian Warrior", "Satan's Right 
  13.     Hand", and "The Avenger" have no place here.  Short forms of your 
  14.     first name such as Bob, Al, Joe, etc. are not considered nick- 
  15.     names.

  17. 2.  Off topic messages should be ignored.  The Moderator will respond 
  18.     to them directly.  Answers by others just tend to perpetuate 
  19.     themselves and lead the threads astray.
  20.  
  21. 3.  Personal attacks (commonly called flames) are not permitted under 
  22.     any circumstances.  In addition to keeping the messages on topic, 
  23.     we intend to keep things friendly.  It is absolutely permitted 
  24.     and encouraged to disagree.  However, it must be done in a nice,
  25.     friendly manner.  This, however, does not include attacks on any
  26.     person, agency (Governmental or otherwise), corporation, etc. 
  27.     A condescending manner is to be avoided at all costs.  Please try 
  28.     to remember how much you had to learn at one time.  This rule is 
  29.     interpreted to mean that propaganda, "warnings" (other than those
  30.     posted by Governmental Agencies or a product's manufacturer), and
  31.     other such nonsense is off limits here.  This is not an area for
  32.     discussion of political ideas.  While one may, for example, say
  33.     that he favors a particular way of doing something, he may not
  34.     indicate that his is the only way, only "right" way, etc. nor 
  35.     may he say that doing it in a more conventional way is wrong.

  37. 4.  This echo is available to any Fidonet or Eggnet  BBS which wants 
  38.     to carry it, and we hope they all will.  However, at this time 
  39.     it may not be passed out of Fidonet or Eggnet without the explicit 
  40.     permission of the Coordinator.  Also, it should only be passed 
  41.     to or from your net echomail hub unless he asks you to pass it 
  42.     on to another bbs in your net.

  44. 5.  Sysops (system operators) from throughout the country spend their own
  45.     hard-earned $$$ to make these echos available for your pleasure and
  46.     education.  Therefore, advertisements of any kind, and in particular,
  47.     *COMMERCIAL_ADVERTISEMENTS* are not in good taste and are *TABOO*.
  48.     It is totally unfair to ask these sysops to pay your advertising
  49.     costs, and your cooperation here is most certainly expected.

  51. 6.  That's all the rules folks.  They are really just common sense 
  52.     and courtesy.  Please live somewhere near if not within them and 
  53.     all will be well.  However, we must enforce them if they are 
  54.     violated.
